This is incredible. Came out of virginia is only history unfortunately. 46" long 11 3/4" widest 5/8"holes. Hand forged except for the tail insert which is rivetted to four tabs that are rivetted torails. Everything looks original. Only damage to this monster is little doughnut cast piece is only 1/2 there. Hate to sell this as it is probably the best I will ever own but love my kids. This cupola and vane were put on the garage around 1913. The piece measures 55" tall, 21" wide and 21" deep. The cupola top is all copper including the nails. THE LETTERED BRASS DIRECTIONALS AND APPROX 3.5" DENTED OLD OXIDIZED GILDED BALL WITH HARDWARE HAVE BEEN UPDATED IN THE MID TO LATE 1800S BUT IF YOU LOOK VERY CLOSELY AT THE PHOTOS THE VERY EARLY HAND WROUGHT IRON 26 1/2" VISIBLE MOUNTING ROD AND EXTREMELY PRIMITIVE WOODEN STEEPLE ALONG WITH REMNANTS OF IT'S ORIGINAL HARDWARE APPEAR TO BE EARLY 1700S TO LATE 1600S. HE ALSO STATES IT WAS THE SECOND OLDEST FARM AND BARN BUILT THERE. CIRCA MID TO LATE 1600S BEFORE THE TOWN WAS EVEN OF IT'S CURRENT OFFICIAL NAME. CONDITION: THE APPROX. 5' 9 3/4" TALL STEEPLE AND WEATHERVANE MOUNTING ROD ARE IN GOOD AGED CONDITION WITH THE ROD MAINTAINING IT'S VERY STRONG STRENGTH. THE PRIMITIVE WOODEN STEEPLE IS STABLE BUT AS EXPECTED IN SOME AREAS IS FRAGILE BUT INTACT. THE BASE OF THE STEEPLE MEASURES APPROX, 7"x 7" WITH SOME NEWER ROOF FLASHING STILL ATTACHED. THE LATER ADDED CIRCA 1800S DIRECTINALS ALSO AS EXPECTED HAVE SOME BENDING ESPECIALLY THE LETTER N AND SOME TO TO THE LETTER W. WITH SIGNS OF EARLY RED BARN PAINT. THE DIRECTIONALS MEASURE APPROX 19 3/4" WIDE BUT VARY DUE TO SLIGHT BENDING. THE VERY TOP OF THE ROD TAPERS TO APPROX. 1/4" PERFECT SIZE FOR MOUNTING OF A LARGE WEATHERVANE AND A TOTAL APPROX. WEIGHT OF 31LBS WITHOUT PROPER PACKING MATERIALS. Vintage Barn Cupola with Weathervane Zinc/Tin White
Up for sale. Vintage cupola with weathervane with lots of character and absolutely beautiful! Purchased locally in Southern Illinois. Appears to be zinc(galvanized) and in excellent condition. Minor surface rust as you can see in photos. Please note that the weathervane turns freely, but will need repair or resoldering to pivot correctly. The louvers have a solid sheet behind them and are not actual vents. Very nicely made with great craftsmanship! It stands a little over 7' from base to peak. The base is 30 1/4"square, 35 3/4" from base to roof, 22 1/2" from roof to bottom of weathervane. The weathervane is about 28 1/4" from base to top finial.
