This is cast metal of some kind, not iron. The arrow is a bit bent at the front hoof which has come loose. The hole for the pole is about 3/4" there is currently a small brass sleeve flared at one end in there, but should probably be removed or replaced as it appears to be worn out. Antique Weathervane 4 Star D & S Lighting Rod Globe Dodd and Struthers NR
For auction is a four star D& S(Dodd and Struthers) weathervane. Fits on the lighting rods and this one would normally hold the 10 sided D& S lighting rod globe or ball. This is an original and this is the way I purchesed it. It has its original aged finish. I believe this is a cast aluminum and the stars are copper. Aluminum does not darken like other metals and this has a nice aged oxidized patina to it. I guarantee this as old and authentic. It does have a break in the area as shown. I realize this hurts it a little but who is going to use this outside again. It is still solid and displays excellent. These are very hard to find with all of the stars.
