It has 3 hidden compartments and lots of pigeon holes and small drawers. It comes with the keys for the upper hutch. The fold down desk and the small door inside but not the drawers below. It has the original glass, which is wavy and has bubbles in it, in both panels on the left side but not on the right side. One pane is missing on the right side but would be easy enough to replace. Lots of character on this gorgeous old piece. It measures 81 inches high, 47 inches wide and is 23-1/2 inches deep at the bottom. It comes apart in two pieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. I live in Santa Cruz but delivery is possible anywhere in the San Francisco or Monterey bay areas(or nearby) if you cover my expenses or we negotiate it into the selling price. There are a few scratches, the worst being on the top of desk where the bookshelf sits, see last pic. It is missing the finial on the top center. There are 7 original handle pulls, the bottom 2 are missing the bale. There is one that doesn't match. Excellent Vintage Little Mahogany Butler's/Secretary Desk
I've been busy trying to get some good stuff in shop to try to jump-start sales and this is estate fresh from upstate New York. Anyway this is a score and I'm proud to offer this for your consideration. It is in outstanding condition has the proper key nice and straight. The finish is very good and has never been repaired. The drawer is dovetail crafted and I could not find a makers mark except the number on backside. No cigarette burns or water stains very clean and I truly like this a lot for both the condition and nice smaller size. So, for the next 100 years you will have one carefree gorgeous investment minded antique. Do not gets this confused with those guys out there that just polish or clean up these desk, because we have even completely done the interior which is normally skipped over by others because it is a hard thing to do. It has all the original brass Chippendale hardware on the front. As you open up the solid writing surface. Automatic extensions come out to support the writing lid and it also exposes a wonderful multi-cubby hole drawer interior with a carved door storage area and two cleverly designed units behind multi turn spindle posts. A rich. Reddish-brown mahogany, late 1930s Governor Winthrop, slant front style desk with oxbow(reverse serpentine) front and ball and claw feet. This model has breadboard ends on the writing surface and it comes with a key. The hardware is 90% intact on the desk, but the keyhole frame on the inner door and the knob on the right slider/writing surface support are missing. It features a writing surface that opens, pulls down, and rests on supports that are pulled out manually to keep the writing lid sturdy. This beautiful pull out secretary is a steal at this price. 40" high by 36" wide by 24" deep when top is closed; 36" deep when top is open and writing surface is exposed. This is a substantial and solid piece of furniture that will complement any classically decorated home- ideal for colonial styled interiors. Inside the secretary. There are beautifully detailed drawers and a little cupboard with 2 secret compartments(what fun! The lower drawers are gorgeous serpentine shape with solid construction- in fantastic condition. The exterior surface needs to be refinished- there are scratches on the writing surface of the desk and the claw feet but otherwise it is in good condition.
