The darker variations on the wood are just droplets of rain that came off of my garage door right before taking the photos. The metal is in need of TLC as it shows signs of wear. This is a sweet antique school desk is in good condition. I bought it about 30 years ago at an antique store in Ft. Worth. Tx. and refinished it. The wood is probably pine. The desk has been kept on display indoors since its purchase. If you are familiar with these desks. The kid in the seat behind actually uses this desk. These were a little before my time, but that appears to be how they worked. When the seat is down. The desk is about 30 inches in depth, 21 inches wide, and 25 inches tall. The dimensions of the top of the desk are about 20 ½ wide by 13 ½ deep. There is an indention for a pencil and a wooden‘cubby’ for papers and books. The seat in the front and flips down for seating and up if not needed. It also has a clear glass inkwell for‘real’ ink– no ball points yet. The sides are made of heavy black cast iron and have ... morethe number 4 embossed on each side. The feet have holes for screwing the desk into the wooden school house floor. There are some small gouges on the edge of the desk(could have been a pocket knife) And some stains(probably ink) You know how kids are! Lift top desk with ink well holder. Pen/pencil tray both on and in desk. Desk is adjustable forward and back on its supports by about 1” T he hinge mechanism holds desk lid in any position. Patent information stamped on hinge dates to late September 1925. Chair is bent wood with integral swivel and height adjustment. Swivel is spring loaded and allows the chair to rotate about 45 degrees either side of forward to allow student easy access to his or her desk. Steel tubular frame is extremely rugged and angled to reduce floor space required and provide stability from tipping over. Maple for durability and good looks. Desk shows typical signs of use such as pencil and crayon marks but overall the surface finish is quite nice. Wood can be refinished as desired. He said the brass hardware on the drawers are consistent with that period, but is not certain if they are the actual ... moreoriginal handles that were on it the day it was first sold. Unfortunately, I can't remember the manufacturers name, but you might be able to tell by looking at the pictures. I looked it over and couldn't find any labels or markings. I love the little chair. The fully functional brass hardware and triple banister post back. Coupled with the corkscrew design for raising and lowering the chair height is such a clever and inventive design. It is also very strong and sturdy! They just don't make chairs this durable any more! You can truly feel the history when you see this set. It is a great little set. The desks roll top is fully functional and there are little cubby cubicles inside for storage. There are 2 smoothly sliding drawers with a skeleton key type lock. No key though. The desk and chair both have the normal wear and tear marks from the last almost 100 years. But they both in pretty good shape considering it was used by children. My first grader can sit in it easily. I estimate that a second or possibly smaller third grade student could sit in this desk. Its in very good structural condition. Its a little rough cosmetically. All the wood is in great shape. The metal has only surface rust in some areas. I can't determine whether it has the original paint or if someone has tried to work on it before. Oak antique student desk(but accommodates most adults up to perhaps 175 lbs. and 5' 10" with 4 rungs below for books. Etc. and ample writing surface. Remaining in whole and good condition with a few issues as described. LOCAL PICK-UP ONLY in zip 22802, Harrisonburg, Virginia. A relatively well-preserved all nearly-all-oak desk. Measuring as follows: 27 1/2" high at the writing surface 33: high at the chair back 17 1/2" high at the seat 18 1/2" x 17" seat 4 rungs below double-back braces(rather thick and substantial) I'm not sure of the wood type of the writing surface. But strikes me as original, with original hardware underneath. One final word on the crack in the seat. It does not bother the butt when sitting at all. And the photos of it may exaggerate it. For display and comfort purposes, I've use a ... morered cushion with it the last few years. It's really been a display piece in my living room, so a guest or two have sat in it maybe 3-4 times just to try it out. Kids also like it. The"45" painted on the back could be removed if you'd like. Student Desk - Golden Oak - in excellent condition
This student desk is a golden oak in excellent condition. The desk measures 44" wide x 19" deep x 30" high. It is very sturdy and solid. But still a nice size if you don't have a lot of space. It comes with a keyboard drawer and three storage drawers. The bottom drawer(picture 4) comes with metal bars for use with hanging folders. The metal bars are removable so items can be stacked in the drawer if wanted. Antique Student desk made by Heywood Wakefield. Patent date is July 4, 1916. Desk has a fold down bench attached to the front end, this is where the student in front of you would sit. Very neat looking old desk, would make a great restoration project. Desk surface has writing& carvings. Missing the bottom portion of the tray where the student would store his or her books.
