The large upper cabinet has flexible. Movable ... moreshelves and period glass doors. It rests atop a cylinder or roll top desk area with a small drawer and several pigeon holes. The writing surface is covered in black felt and pulls out to provide a larger area. There is a large overhanging drawer as well as two smaller drawers and a cabinet below, for even more storage. All of the drawers have brass pulls and escutcheons and dovetail joints. The lower area is spoon carved in a charming leaf pattern. This piece most likely dates from the late 1800's. This piece is in good condition. But does have some cosmetic flaws, as is to be expected in a piece of this age. Several of the escutcheons are missing as well as the door pulls on the upper cabinet. The drawer pulls are loose as well and one of the escutcheons looks like it has been reattached. There is a piece of wood missing from the molding below the desk top as well. See picture) There is also significant wear to the felted writing surface. No other significant damage or repairs. The entire desk stands about 88" 7'4" tall. Probably c. 1910-30 Item# 130008GQJ26 Crafted during the first years of the ... more20th Century. When fervor for antiques of the Louis XV taste were still at a remarkable high, this very attractive French Louis XV Bureau Plat was embellished with great effort. Featuring a solid mahogany top with a molded edge, the front of the bureau plat has a long hand dovetailed drawer for storage, opening to reveal a solid golden oak interior. The keyhole escutcheon is probably the finest bronze mount on the desk, a piece that prominently features the rocaille movement around the fully functioning key and lock. The apron is shapely, the front and back mirroring the flow of the top with a slight inversion in the middle. The cabriole legs are formed with very fine gate, the tapering form nearly perfect in proportion to the table, each surmounted with an intense rocaille Gilt bronze mount with the"C" form featured actively as it curls over the entire knee- a thin reed of gilt bronze continues to flow down the leg into the beautiful Gilt bronze sabot mounts with curling toes. This is a fully functional piece. Not just being a beautiful decorative art, the form being sturdy and strong throughout with a clean writing surface. For decorators passionate about the French Louis XV form, this is a wonderful find. Measurements: 39 1/2" wide x 23 7/8" deep x 29 1/4" high to top of desk; 24 1/8" high to underside of drawer(when sitting) Condition Report: Light dings and chips throughout. Including some loss to the corners of the drawer, a small"dent" in the top and scuffing to the top. Overall very attractive, the typical wear and use abrasions being somewhat limited and the overall desk being quite well preserved. The bronzes are of medium quality with some pitting and cracks from the foundry process- we believe the mounts are unsigned, though only one sabot has been removed and examined. One of the Claw Carved Feet is totally disconnected from the piece- it is reparable, we just haven't done it as of this date, as you can position it underneath the piece and it is very sturdy. It has original brass hardware. It has a big mechanical lid or writing surface in good condition. Unique Antique Jansen Louis XVI Ebonized Mahogany Gilt Carved Shabby Display
Antique Jansen Louis XVI Ebonized Mahogany Display Desk This maginificent display table/bureauplat is charmingly shabby. Though unsigned. It is almost certainly by Maison Jansen. The style, the quality of workmanship, the materials, are clearly of the highest quality. Please see picture number 6 for a close up of the underlying wood grain, which appears to be mahogany(though walnut is not an impossibility) The framed glass top. Reveals 2 separators with gilded scrolling, providing areas for 3 locked drawers. The locks are brand new and not original. This piece would make an impressive jewelry or fine fashion arts display case of pure perfection for any shop featuring an upscale shabby chic style. A nearly identical piece is shown in the June 2013 New York Times Style Magazine on pages 86-87 STYLE: The ebonized mahogany and carved and gilt ... moremolding identify this piece as an interpretation of neoclassical Louis XVI style favored by Maison Jansen and European early 20th century royalty and the Kennedy White House. The republic style legs place it most likely in the 1920-30's era. WORKMANSHIP: The intricate carving. Gilded moldings, and ebonizing are of days-gone-by and simply unavailable in today's market. Though the legs appear somewhat fragile supporting the weight of the overall table, they are solidly attached with heavy metal flanges and grommets. The drawers show the dovetail joints(pictures 9 and 10) All joining of the piece are solid and exhibit NO separation. MATERIALS: Though wood identification is difficult with painted furniture. There are enough small areas with worn paint to show the underlying wood. This is unquestionably a very hard wood, and given the reputation and standards of Maison Jansen, this is almost certainly mahogany. The only mark found is on the bottom of one of the drawers which reads"A Agullo Chapas Finas de Medera" R Agullo is a high-end supplier of wood to cabinet makers in Madrid founded in 1926. Walnut with raised and matched panels, the top has been re-varnished for durability. The balance of the original finish is very well preserved and has been waxed and polished, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its glowing patina. Opening the drop front reveals an interior in curly or"birdseye" maple with a tooled writing surface plus tiny drawers and cubicles. There is no key for the little locking drawer. Fine Antique American Carved Oak Flat Top Desk Large Size Circa 1910
This is a very fine antique American carved oak desk. It is large and very substantial with a new set in felt top framed by oak. The drawers are carved. Dovetailed and retain the original brass knobs. It has fancy carved corners and panels framed by decorative moldings all around. The doors have nicely carved raised panels and decorative moldings. Inside there are three drawers on one side and two pull out shelves on the other side. This is an exceptional antique oak desk in excellent condition with original finish and nice patina. Circa 1910. Vintage Antique Curved Top Hutch Cabinet Dresser with hand Carved Inlay
I don't know allot about this cabinet beside that we really liked it when we got it. I have never seen another like it. We used this as a cabinet to store extra sewing supplies in our craft room. But we out grew the cabinet and got something bigger. I believe it to be from the 1940's but I could be way off. There used to be a shelf that went inside, but it was gone before I got it. The Hole that were cut in the back are really the only damage to the cabinet. The measurements are 35.5 inches wide by 51.25 tall. This is a beautifully carved and constructed sled top lady’s desk, bench made and dating from 1900s. It’s a great ... moreexample of talented cabinet craftsmanship. It came right out of a fancy home, in original condition, showing original minor nicks and dings that are typical of its age. It wasn’t mass-produced, but was bench made. It has a raised panel hand-cut dovetail drawer with its original hardware. I did look for a signature, but could only find the scribe marks that tell that it’s bench made. It’s very high-quality, and is dovetailed front and back by hand. The carved lid opens with automatic supports, and although it’s never been damaged, the cubbyhole interior shows the last 120 or so years of use. We automatically sand down and refinish the inside, but on this piece we won’t because it is original and bench made. There is a label inside that says the arm supports were patented on April 5, 1907. It has cabriole legs, ball and claw feet, stick and ball spindle gallery that has been repaired at some point, and is in overall great condition. The size across the legs is 28 inches, across the writing lid is 26 inches, 18 inches deep from back to front on the legs, 15 inches deep on the case, and it is 40.5 inches tall from the floor to the gallery. The gleaming finish is in excellent condition on this stately antique furniture. Drawers have hand cut dovetail joints. Locks and keys work. On the right pedestal are sliding tray drawers, on the left are bookshelves. Deep moldings and bun feet are imposing. NOTE: We will be out of town from April 29 to May 4 and unable to answer questions or provide shipping. Beautiful pressed wood(carved? cattails and reeds on the front of this antique desk. It has a drop front typical of a secretary desk. The lining on the inside writing surface needs a blotter or you could put a leather surface on it. There are cubbies and pigeon holes for items. Two small drawers are inside as well. The lock on the desk works and has a key. There are brass key hole trims on each drawer but they are only for decoration as there are no locks on the four drawers. The drawer pulls are typical of the Colonial Early American period. I have no idea how old this desk is as I bought it as an antique in the Boston area in the 1970's. It is a very heavy item so could be ash or some other fine wood.
