It has a tiger sawn writing surface in the center, which had to be glued back down as most desks of this age. We also had to re-glue everything, reinforce the roll, sand, strip, stain, and apply multiple coats of sealer and satin sheen lacquer on this hard-to-find 66-inch-wide roll-top desk by the Derby Desk Company of Boston, Mass. If you’ve been looking for a roll-top, and you’d like one to brag about, this one gives you all the bragging rights you’ll ever need. I am unsure of the exact age of the desk. It is most likely a 1970's reproduction of an 18th Century Georgian Design. It has beautifully carved ball and claw feet, and chunky cabiole legs that are also carved at the knees. This desk has five (5) substantial drawers with the original brass bail pull handles, and five (5) faux drawer fronts on the back side also with brass bail pull handles. The drawers have dove tail joints. The desk was in front of a window for years, and therefore the finish on the back side is a bit faded.

The top has the most lovely design of flowers and outlining in coloured and textured pyrography- where the wood was decorated with hot tools to produce a raised and textured effect. This box has a rather Art Nouveau look to it. The box has a little drilled hole in the side of the base. Through which fine string or ribbon can be threaded and then pulled out beneath the top, but it can also be used as a standard box for holding paperclips or small items on a desk or dressing table. The item is nicely made and has an old paper label underneath which reads"Au Printemps" So I think this was orignally sold in France. Condition is overall very good. Ut there is some wear to the green varnished areas in the top design- but this is still a lovely and rare piece. If used as a string box. I feel this would be best suited to thin string, thread or twine, as shown in the picture- and will be included with the box- rather than thick string. I have for sale an antique Moulthrop school desk and chair. It was made in the early 1900's by Langslow Fowler. Which was a early manufacturer of Arts and Crafts furniture in Rochester. NY. They competed with Gustav Stickley. Stickly Brothers and Roycroft. It is made of oak and iron hardware. The chair has a drawer that slides open for books. There is a inkwell holder is attached to the metal brace on the side. The black metal brace has the name MOULTHROP stamped on the bottom. And it can be raised to adjust the desk height. Angle and depth(can slide forward and back) The seat height from the floor is 16.5" The desk can adjust height from 27.5" to 31.5" The desk depth can slide from 9.5" to 14.5" The size of the desk top is 12" by 16" This is a very solid well built. Hello. I'm selling my desk because I have a bigger one now. This is a turn of the century school desk with a one-piece hardwood top and iron legs. It's suitable for a smaller apartment or room. It is 28 inches high. And the wooden top is 18 deep by 30 inches across. The flat top has a lip of about half an inch high at the back of it. The desk is steady and sturdy. Quite heavy for such a small thing. It is excellent quality and has a romantic vintage feel. The wood on top is in good condition and it just needs a little oil every once in a while to keep it that way. Perfect for a small desk. It is a solid wood throughout and in fairly good condition-VG. It measures on top at 45.5" W and 28"D. It can add a classic look to any room with its' great style and golden oak grained color. The desk top is 29" above the floor and comfortable to sit at. The center drawer is 22"W. The"paws" are all similar and are 3"X 3.5" see photo#3) There is a small dark blemish on the wood top on the left(see photo#2) that I began to remove but it is incomplete. The bottom shelf is of a nice sweeping shape and adds to the versatility. The center drawer appears to be a replacement( ... moredrawer. It needs gluing in the front where there is a few inch separation. But it is not a difficult clamping job at all. There is a light small separation on top of the front lid that could use a little gluing to make this lovely piece in VG+++ condition. Beautiful Antique Mahogany English Inlaid Desk
You are bidding on a beautiful Antique Mahogany English Inlaid Desk. Unsure exactly how old this desk is but I have been told that it is possibly from the mid to late 1800's. There is such great detail all around this desk. On the top part of the desk there are two doors which slide open and closed. Which resembles an accordian. When the doors are open there are small pull out drawers and compartments to put pins, tacks, ink, letters, ect. The desk also has two pull out drawers on the bottom front of the desk. On the pull out drawers there are two handles for each drawer and each handle has a"hand painted porcelain piece" There are two areas that may need very little tlc. There are 2 seperate key holds which one used to lock the top two doors and the other locks the bottom pull out drawers. The lip of the desk extends so that ... moreone is able to write letters. When the lip of the desk is extended you can see the key hole just below where the two compartment doors meet. This locks the top. The lower part of the desk has two drawers each with it's own key hole for locking. As I mentioned. There are two area that may need a bit of tlc. The first area is in the front of the desk there are 2 doors, which easily slides open and closed. On both ends of the doors they are missing the edge of the door, which had a small latch in the middle. When the lip of the desk extends and both doors are closed they were able to be locked by the key hole which is located just underneath the lip of the desk. The second area that needs tlc is that one of the bottom drawers needs to have a ringlet placed back on. There would be no need to purchase the ringlet due to it being inside the desk. The ringlet came off during a move. I picked up this item at an estate sale in San Franscisco. California and it is a gorgeous piece of furniture. We brought this desk back from Germany 40 years ago have have meticulously maintained it ever since. It is in that same beautiful condition just like when we bought it. The top section has a middle drawer and two stained glass doors in perfect condition. The desk surface has green felt covered with glass that slides out. Shafer Company in Chicago for the owner(who was somehow related to me by marriage) Definitely a custom roll top desk. It is all cherry with bird's eye maple inlays on the raised panels on the sides and drawers. The top has the most amazing wood inlay. The top has been covered in glass since the day it was made. It has no scratches. The roll top goes up and down smoothly. All the drawers slide in and out smoothly as well. Desk is original. It has never been re-finished. It is 62" wide, 27.5" deep and 46" high. It has been in my possession for about 30 years. We are downsizing and just don't have room to bring this piece along. Looking for good home for its next 100+ years.

Beautiful mid-century Wood School Desk - Sturdy and Refinished
This item was a rescue from a local flea market. It was an ugly blue and in sad shape but the potential was all there. For those areas I could not glue I used'L' brackets and hid them well. I stripped the metal hardware and put a clear coat over bare metal on those which creates a nice contrast with the wood and black paint. I painted the chair black leaving the seat and the desktop off to be stained and sealed. I soaked the screws in a derusting bath and put it all back together. The piece is very clean and sturdy. I painted the top of the bolts black for more contrast. Its a little overkill but I really enjoy the small details. This is a solid beautiful piece suitable for use or decoration. All drawers. Locks and doors work smoothly. In our opinion the roll top escutcheon and the keys are reproduction and not original to the piece. It comes apart in two major pieces for transportation. There is a central back panel the same size as the chair opening which also detaches at the owners preference.
