It has 3 hidden compartments and lots of pigeon holes and small drawers. It comes with the keys for the upper hutch. The fold down desk and the small door inside but not the drawers below. It has the original glass, which is wavy and has bubbles in it, in both panels on the left side but not on the right side. One pane is missing on the right side but would be easy enough to replace. Lots of character on this gorgeous old piece. It measures 81 inches high, 47 inches wide and is 23-1/2 inches deep at the bottom. It comes apart in two pieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. The desk is a reproduction made by the Maddox Table Co. of Jamestown, New York. This desk comes right out of the New England estate. The desk has those wonderful features most folks are looking for, such as all-wood drawers with dovetail corners, and clawed feet. The hardware and locks are the originals that came with the desk, not replacements. The desk was in my family for around ... more60 or so years, so the desk dates to at least 1950, and it may be older than that- I'm just not sure. The desk is the slant-front style, hinged at the bottom, so it opens up and the front lays flat to become the writing surface; the desk front can be locked. When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. Inside the desk there are 3 small drawers, and holders for stashing letters and so forth. In the center of the opened desk, inside, there is a closed compartment with no lock; the compartment door is scratched. There are 3 drawers below the writing surface that extend almost the full width of the desk, and each one of them can be locked. These drawers have a graceful bow front(see photos) Above the desk itself is a prominent feature, a bookcase with 2 shelves covered by hinged glass doors that swing out and can be locked. The bookcase doors do not line up 100% vertically when closed, a common problem with these desks. Antique Hepplewhite Federal style tambour desk. This piece is handcrafted primarily of solid dark mahogany. Adorned with linear and bell-flower inlays in contrasting woods. The top half of the desk has two tambour-covered sections containing three pigeon holes and a small drawer. There is also a locked center section. Sorry- no key! The lower part has a fold out. Hinged writing surface atop two full-sized drawers. Drawers are mahogany, with ash as the secondary wood. Dovetailed joints and wonderful nautical-themed brass pulls. There are three shelves on the upper bookcase with original glass door. It has four drawers below the drop off desk. It is in excellent condition. Everything in its original state. There is one key for the bookcase. This has been in my mother's home for as long as I can remember. There are no labels on the back. Welcome! I am proud to be offering for your consideration this antique mahogany secretary desk or Gov.Wintrop circa 1940s. This big old secretary was found in the basement of an old home here in NH. It does have a few tell tale features caused by the damp concrete that we want to declare. Even though they are no longer really an issue. The very bottom of the backboard has rippled plywood(see photo) when placed against the wall you will not see at all, and the very bottoms of the veneered sides were lifting and have been reglued. Because of this we are listing this secretary for about half its value. The secretary has original finish, original brass hardware. It has a really nice 8 1/2" tall turned finial on top of the traditional'broken arch' top. It has two fixed shelves in the bookcase top behind glass doors with original fret ... morework over the glass. It has a big mechanical lid or writing surface in good condition but for a tiny veneer chip(no cracks) The interior of the desk is serpentine shaped with 5 drawers, a doored compartment and two'secret' vertical drawers. The secretary drawers have serpentine fronts, are all dovetailed and in good shape. This piece has three Maddox labels, one brass and two paper. It is a two piece secretary for easy moving. I am not certain about the origins of this desk but it is beautiful. The only flaws are 1. The brass rail on the top is just sitting there and needs to be glued down. And 2. The drawers of this item are hard to open(but they do open) and there are scratches and needs more cleaning. Because of this we are listing this secretary for less than half its value. The secretary has original brass hardware. It has a really nice 8 1/2" tall turned finial on top of the traditional'broken arch' top. It has two fixed shelves in the bookcase top behind glass doors with original fret work over the glass. It has a big mechanical lid or writing surface in good condition but for a tiny veneer chip(no cracks) The interior of the desk is serpentine shaped with 3 drawers. The desk is 30.25" wide and 32" tall and 15" deep. The height of the writing surface is 15. I estimate the age of this desk to be approximately 110 years. It is in good to very good condition with some light surface scratches and cup marks as pictured. More wear is shown(appropriately) inside on the work surface. There is evidence of use(and age) by the scuffing marks on the inside walls from opening and closing the desktop. This desk does not take up much space so would work great in smaller areas. 1890-1920 ART NOUVEAU DROP FRONT DESK/ SECRETARY + BENCH This turn-of-the-century mahogany desk has been finished in a durable satin oil-base paint to bring a contemporary feel to a classic antique style. It features plenty of storage space within a compact design. Opened or closed. This desk makes a statement in elegant simplicity. There is a slight crack in the wood at the bottom left of the door. Only on the outside. it does not go through, nor does it affect the beauty or functionality of the piece. It is a minor flaw and very common in a 90+ year old antique. As you will see from the image above(as in real life) It is not noticeable until you are specifically looking for it, or until your face is right up to it. As in the image below. The height of this desk is 50.5 inches. But don't worry about transporting it. It breaks down into ... moretwo sections. The top section sits down snuggly into the bottom section. So there is no risk of it tipping off. It needs to be lifted straight up out of the base to disassemble it. The depth of the desk is 15 inches. So this could even be used in a smaller room, giving you the advantage of an all-inclusive secretary without the large footprint. The width is 31 inches. This is a perfect size! You can see from the back how the top section sits down into the base with a protective moulding around the front and sides. Even with the bench. The footprint of this desk is minimal. and how gorgeous is its profile? And. By the way, the moldings and applied carvings are all intact throughout. Here's a picture with the unit broken down. When you look at the base. You can see how deep the moulding is that wraps tightly around the upper section, but you can't see the groove inside the moulding that drops the upper section even further down into the base. No maker mark found. But perhaps I missed it! Exterior woods appear to me to be tiger maple on drawer fronts and mahogany otherwise. Also I'm guessing early 20th century. However I'm not an expert so please judge the age, wood, style etc. yourself. Size: Approx. 20 x 40 inches. Solid with no major damage. Original finish and drawer pulls. 1940ish Maddox Mahogany Secretary Desk in VG
This Maddox Secretary Desk is from the 1940's. It has been in my family since I was born. It is approximately 84 inches tall. 36 inches wide and 21 inches deep when closed. When opened the table top/desk measures 35 in. x 15 in. There is one flaw on the top left of the bottom drawer and can be seen in the fourth picture. The top section is removable and held in place with screws. Overall this Maddox Secretary desk is in very good condition. Local Pick Up Only. I am located in Olmsted Falls. OH.

VINTAGE SALESMAN'S SAMPLE MINIATURE MAHOGANY SECRETARY DESK. Please check out my photos because this is a very nice little deck. I do not know the maker or the date of manufacture. HIGH quality. Dovetailed drawer joints, brass fittings including hinges, handles, pulls& screws. I am not certain on the scale, as full size dimensions are not known, but measures approx. 18" tall, 16" wide, and between 9" deep. Has a minor scrape on the top, and the back corner is a little dinged. A truly beautiful, rare piece.

This is a very nice Chippendale style mahogany secretary desk. The desk is complete and is in good condition with several cosmetic flaws but great structural integrity. This desk is complete with original"Genuine Mahogany" tag(photo#3) 2 paper Maddox tags and a metal Maddox shield(photo#9) The shield reads"Maddox Colonial Reproductions Jamestown, NY. The desk is complete with claw feet(photo#5) and beautiful top decoration(photo#4) There are four large drawers in the bottom part of the desk that work perfectly. The desk is quite beautiful when you put the slant top down into writing position. The writing surface is in nice condition but does have several scratches on it. There are five small drawers across the inside of the desk that are topped by 8 letter slots(4 on each side) an open center space with a door, and two hidden ... morevertical pillar drawers(photo#6) There is some damage around the knobs of the drawers and door, particular the center drawer and door, and something stuck inside one of the letter slots(see photo#7) The glass doors on the top of the desk are in very nice condition with the only visible flaw being some imperfection(retouching? in the finish at the center of the doors(photo#8) There are three shelves behind the glass doors. The top shelf has some paper stuck on three side of the back left corner(I do not know if it can be removed or what the finish looks like underneath it) and a circular scuff mark on the back in the center(photo#10) On the lower portion of both the right and left side there is some kind of residue or damage(photo#11) I do not know exactly what it is or if it can be repaired. Finally, the curved parts that stick out above the first large drawer have some damage from moving(photo#12) This desk was in the living room of my grandparent's house from the 1950's or 1960's until we recently sold the house and moved it up to New Jersey. This is a Vintage 1930's to 1940's Slanted Bureau Secretary Desk With Bookcase. Its in worn condition and needs to be refinished and has a lot of dings and scratches. It is beautiful with a slanted desk that pulls down and opens to a beautiful play for stationary. Etc. On top is a glass paneled curio cabinet/ bookcase. It has dove tail joints on the drawers. It has glue from tape that the previous owners used to move it. The drawers are very curvy and have beautiful original pulls. Love the compartments inside this 1920-1940 mahogany secretary desk bookcase! There are 3 shelves inside and the glass doors that have lovely fretwork. The 4 claw feet are vintage worn. The drawers form a really nice serpentine base. The drawers open and close easily and have their original hardware. The goose neck or swan neck arch pediment on top has a middle finial which we are re-attaching. When the desk is opened there are 6 sleeves. 3 serpentine drawers and one"secret compartment" behind the door in the middle. The outside of the drop down desktop is lighter in color than the rest of the piece and really adds a nice depth. The desk was loved and used; the wood is worn. Made mainly of solid mahogany wood. And with minimal veneer that is normal to the design of the age. Many photos are posted so that you can see the quality of this beautiful desk and how well the secretary has been cared for, being from only one owner. This desk is in excellent used condition being from the original owner. There are no repairs. But does have minor wear from use. This beautiful desk also has the original patina and has never been refinished. Look through the photographs and you will see how special this desk is and how well the owner took care of their writing desk. The secretary desk is a sturdy.
