There is a name and year written on the bottom of the desk, but it is very faint and can only be seen while hold the desk at a certain angle to the light. I tried to capture the writing in a picture, but could only get the first part of the name. The name stands out the most. The rest of the writing, I believe would be where the owner lived and the year is much fainter. It looks like Maggie C Farr(something) something) 1876 or 1896. The box measures about 11 ¼” x 7 3/4” x 3 ½” closed) Opened and lying flat the desk measures about 16” long. The inside bottom felt writing surface that lifts up is tight and strong while the top felt writing surface that lifts up is wiggly, but still very much intact. Very nice old lap desk. For sale is a 1950s 2 arm industrial Jielde multi angle articulated machine ... morelamp. The aluminium elbows have been polished. The lamp is in working order and comes with 2.4 metres of new flex but not the plug as it is a French one. It is in very good used condition with some very minor signs of use to the reflector's surface. The reflector has its original high temperature painted surface and still has the bulb wattage/voltage sticker intact. The switch is in the base. I have included the lamp's weighted vehicle brake disc base in the sale. These lamps are very sort after and nice examples like this are becoming difficult to find. The photos don't do it justice! The lamp takes a Standard Bayonet cap bulb(B22) which are available at all DIY outlets. Bulb not included. The maximum wattage is 150w. Jielde lamps were designed by Jean-Louis Domecq for direct mounting on machine tools and for use in workshops. The lamps have now become particularly fashionable for use in loft style apartments and in homes generally as desk lamp/floor or wall lamps. So, hence I have fitted a trailing flexible lead to make the light more useable in the home. I have displayed this light using a vehicle brake disc which provides a solid base to show a typical method of mounting the light. Heavy sprockets. Hardwood- anything heavy will do the job. The light can also be fixed to a wall if required using its mounting base/bracket which has 3 holes in it. Although the light isn't heavy, it will require a solid wall and sturdy fixings to mount it as the movement required to adjust the lamp to the desired position will put stress on the mounting. If you do not want the brake disc included in the sale, then I will discount the postage by £10. Dimensions: Maximum extended height is 110cm( 44" The shade dia. is 16cm. The wood is probably walnut or mahogany and does have age wear- a solid box- both the cover and the bottom have splits as you can see in the photos- has the compartments- one of the small dividers is missing- not sure if the locking mechanism works as there is no key. Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. The desk is a reproduction made by the Maddox Table Co. of Jamestown, New York. This desk comes right out of the New England estate. The desk has those wonderful features most folks are looking for, such as all-wood drawers with dovetail corners, and clawed feet. The hardware and locks are the originals that came with the desk, not replacements. The desk was in my family for around ... more60 or so years, so the desk dates to at least 1950, and it may be older than that- I'm just not sure. The desk is the slant-front style, hinged at the bottom, so it opens up and the front lays flat to become the writing surface; the desk front can be locked. When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. Inside the desk there are 3 small drawers, and holders for stashing letters and so forth. In the center of the opened desk, inside, there is a closed compartment with no lock; the compartment door is scratched. There are 3 drawers below the writing surface that extend almost the full width of the desk, and each one of them can be locked. These drawers have a graceful bow front(see photos) Above the desk itself is a prominent feature, a bookcase with 2 shelves covered by hinged glass doors that swing out and can be locked. The bookcase doors do not line up 100% vertically when closed, a common problem with these desks. Co. in Cincinnati. OH. There is a brass tag on the center front of the desk part that says the company name and location. It says LIBRARY AND SOCIETY GOODS as well. RARE 1800's Spinet Desk with Crocodile Vinyl Top. Also known as a Piano Desk. This spinet desk is from around the late 1800's, I think. I am not sure if it's cherry or mahogany. Newly refinished and topped with a crocodile vinyl and nickel plated studs. Tapered legs have nice detail. Legs remove, for economical shipping, or easy pick up. All wood ornamentation is in tact and beautiful. Does have a few gouges here and there, that have been darkened, which makes them much harder to see, looks more like a distressed look, but with minor distress. There is also a larger gouge in in the very edged at the front top, see pictures. Work surface has 2 recessed finger pulls. Work surface pulls out to 15" deep(front to back) and 24 1/4" wide. And is 27 1/4" off floor. Bi fold top gives you access to the interior and work surface. ... moreInterior has 6 cubbies. Exterior has 2 drawers. That is one on each side and 1 wide drawer across front. All drawers and lid operate smoothly. The entire desk measures: 38" wide. 18 1/2" deep(front to back) and is 32 1/2" tall when closed. Drawer measurements: 2 drawers. 1 at each side measure 16 1/4" front to back, 4" wide and 4 1/2" deep. 1 wide drawer across bottom front measures: 28 3/4" wide. 15 1/4" front to back and 1 1/2" deep. Has wood ornamentation on front, so it makes it look like a secret drawer. CHAIR: The chair seems to have the same legs. So I think it is a match. Chair measures 28 1/2" tall at back. Seat is 14" wide, 17" off floor, 14 1/2" deep. The chair is sturdy, but does have a slight creek to it, it can be heard, but doesn't really shift or feel flimsy. Will ship in 2 boxes. And a depth of 12 inches. Opening the fall front desk portion reveals the desk cubbies and a ample writing surface that measures 28 1/2 inches wide. 25 1/2 inches deep and the height from the writing surface to the floor measures 29 1/2 inches. Antique School Master's Desk
This is a very handsome hardwood school master's desk from the 1870-1890 era. It has wear that might be expected with its age to the finish. But nothing obvious and it is ready for display. The desk is solid and all parts function as expected. I believe that it is made of cherry, but no guarantees. There are 3 interior drawers and all have tight, skillfully made dovetail joints. The dimensions are 39 1/2" high at the back of the desk, 23" deep and 33" wide.

Original German Antique School Desk. All wood construction. Metal hardware. Includes Inkwell marked with"D.R.G.M. The acronym D.R.G.M. stands for Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster, meaning that the design or function of an item was officially registered inside all of Germany. This registration was introduced 1891, used throughout World Wars I and II and throughout the Allied Occupation of Germany being eliminated between 1949-1952.
