French Louis XV Style Antique Bureau Plat Desk w/ Gilt Bronze Mounts c. 1910-30
French Louis XV Style Gilt Mounted Mahogany Bureau Plat Early 20th Century. Probably c. 1910-30 Item# 130008GQJ26 Crafted during the first years of the 20th Century. When fervor for antiques of the Louis XV taste were still at a remarkable high, this very attractive French Louis XV Bureau Plat was embellished with great effort. Featuring a solid mahogany top with a molded edge, the front of the bureau plat has a long hand dovetailed drawer for storage, opening to reveal a solid golden oak interior. The keyhole escutcheon is probably the finest bronze mount on the desk, a piece that prominently features the rocaille movement around the fully functioning key and lock. The apron is shapely, the front and back mirroring the flow of the top with a slight inversion in the middle. The cabriole legs are formed with very fine gate, the tapering form ... morenearly perfect in proportion to the table, each surmounted with an intense rocaille Gilt bronze mount with the"C" form featured actively as it curls over the entire knee- a thin reed of gilt bronze continues to flow down the leg into the beautiful Gilt bronze sabot mounts with curling toes. This is a fully functional piece. Not just being a beautiful decorative art, the form being sturdy and strong throughout with a clean writing surface. For decorators passionate about the French Louis XV form, this is a wonderful find. Measurements: 39 1/2" wide x 23 7/8" deep x 29 1/4" high to top of desk; 24 1/8" high to underside of drawer(when sitting) Condition Report: Light dings and chips throughout. Including some loss to the corners of the drawer, a small"dent" in the top and scuffing to the top. Overall very attractive, the typical wear and use abrasions being somewhat limited and the overall desk being quite well preserved. The bronzes are of medium quality with some pitting and cracks from the foundry process- we believe the mounts are unsigned, though only one sabot has been removed and examined. This is a very fine antique American carved oak desk. It is large and very substantial with a new set in felt top framed by oak. The drawers are carved. Dovetailed and retain the original brass knobs. It has fancy carved corners and panels framed by decorative moldings all around. The doors have nicely carved raised panels and decorative moldings. This old bench is of a type you don't see much anymore. It is made of some kind of nice hardwood on the top. The sides are made out of beautiful oak. There is a hole for a lathe in the top and a hole in the front for clamps and vices to host many different tools. Measures 45" width x 24" depth(front to back) And 32" height. Crafted of quarter sawn oak and signed"Clemco, a prominent Chicago maker of the day the rich deep finish is in excellent condition with a few very minor mars at the edges for character, see photos. Brass feet protected the desk when mopping floors. Deep dovetailed drawers include a large file drawer. Two pull-out shelves add workspace. Well. School is in and this pairing of matching roll top desk and chair(Both stamped with matching Manufacturers marks) would be a nice addition to a household. As stated above the two items are sound and good repair. Could stand a very good cleaning yet the best thing is that the original finish is intact. There is also a pullout flat board above the drawers. The two pen holders are inside on the sides and are original. Antique School Desk, Ornate, Early Art -Deco, Pre 1910 to Post 1900. Vintage.
This antique school desk has the correct aging of being made between 1900 and 1910. The desk has ornate Art Deco cast iron designs and fitted groved wood surfaces. The desk is all orginal exsept one of the two screws in the underneath of the wooden Back Rest. The desk is 25 inches tall. The horizontal leangth from the front of the bench seat to the back of the desk top is 25 and 1/2 inches. The leangth across the desk top is 18 and 3/4 inches. The desk has a patent number that is little difficult to readbut appears to be 478786. There is not maker name on the desk. The desk holds together well. The desk is heavy and should be handled by the cast Iron when moved. Please view all wear in the photographs before buying. Holland Michigan" This is a great Spinet desk built in the early 1900's. Probably around 1910. It has a mahogany top and multiple drawers among other things.
