Additional storage is found below the desk area consisting of an area with a ornate door measuring 20" x 14 1\2" deep. The drawer below this storage area measures 2" x 14 1\2" deep x 5" High. To the left of the desk is a tall shelf area with four adjustable shelves for storage or acting as a bookcase again having fine ornate wood carving over the glass door front. The ornate carvings on the front of the fold-down desk and upper glass door appear Victorian. Work is needed for refinishing this piece to bring it back to its original beauty. Antique Hepplewhite Federal style tambour desk. This piece is handcrafted primarily of solid dark mahogany. Adorned with linear and bell-flower inlays in contrasting woods. The top half of the desk has two tambour-covered sections containing three pigeon holes and a small drawer. There is also a locked center section. Sorry- no key! The lower part has a fold out. Hinged writing surface atop two full-sized drawers. Drawers are mahogany, with ash as the secondary wood. Dovetailed joints and wonderful nautical-themed brass pulls. Here is a beautiful child's desk& chair set. Somewhere between 1900& 1940. This is a small version of the larger ones made then. Picture#8 shows some letters& words that I cannot seem to make out. Of what was probably the manufactor. It has the original stain, which has not even been attempted to re-finish. Some think that would ruin this set. Children have definitely used it, for the wear you see, but it is solid and sturdy, and has lots of wear left in it. There are three drawers on the right side, and the top one locks. you may be able to find a key for this, or ask a locksmith to make one. Above the top drawer that locks is a little slide-out board for writing on. There is a large center long drawer too. The chair swivels, and has cast iron framing, with an adjusting center screwing device which allows for the chair height ... moreto be as low to the floor as 14 inches, up to 16 inches, easily, and taller if need be, but it gets a little wabbly after that, because it is only connecting with one cylinder. At it's taller setting, the chair is 29 inches tall, from top of back to floor. The seat is 12 5/8" wide and 12 3/4" deep. This is extremely well made, and sure belongs in someone's home with a child who will enjoy and use it. The desk measure 29 inches tall, and is 33 1/2 inches wide and 18 inches deep.

There is one key for the bookcase. This has been in my mother's home for as long as I can remember. There are no labels on the back. Crafted of solid quarter sawn oak about 1900. A side by side secretary desk and bookcase has an original beveled mirror and glass in the bookcase door. The deep finish has warm antique patina. The lock and key in lower door doesn't work. The key is a handle only. There is some silver loss on the back of mirror but mirror could be easy replaced. Inside the drop front desk are tiny cubicles and a drawer for papers. Bookshelves are adjustable on this American made furniture. Brass hardware is original. Gorgeous piece. I hate to let it go, but I'm moving and need to downsize! Circa 1900 secretary I believe is walnut. maker unknown. This was more of a middle class piece rather than a fine piece in it's day, so I was told by the dealer. It is solidly constructed, and stands 93" tall including pediment. it comes apart into two pieces making it easier to move. the top cabinet with glass doors is 62" tall and is rather shallow at nine inches which is nice if you don't want too bulky a piece. the bottom stands 31" and is 18 inches deep at the top, the cabinet being 15 inches deep. it is 38" wide. With desk folded down it is 23" deep. It has some insect gouges, I guess you might call them and other flaws and some wear. Pediment has been repaired. but you can hardly tell. PLEASE study photos carefully and consider ... moremeasurements and ask any questions before bidding. This is the most darling piece and looks fabulous just as it is. I practically swooned when I saw this piece of furniture. This Queen Anne style is one of my favorites. With the cabriole legs in front and the straight legs in back. The hardware on this piece is simply gorgeous, but it is the patina on the old cherry that really knocked me out. Plus, it is solid as a rock, even after all this time. The desk is 30.25" wide, 37" high, and 14.5" deep(from drawer) When opened, the writing surface is 27.5" from the floor. It features original brass hardware, a single pull-out drawer beneath the desk, and six compartments inside to store letter, bills, etc. I estimate the age of this piece to be approximately 110 years. It is in good to very good condition as indicated in the Condition description. There are some light scratches and cup marks as pictured.
