There is a name and year written on the bottom of the desk, but it is very faint and can only be seen while hold the desk at a certain angle to the light. I tried to capture the writing in a picture, but could only get the first part of the name. The name stands out the most. The rest of the writing, I believe would be where the owner lived and the year is much fainter. It looks like Maggie C Farr(something) something) 1876 or 1896. The box measures about 11 ¼” x 7 3/4” x 3 ½” closed) Opened and lying flat the desk measures about 16” long. The inside bottom felt writing surface that lifts up is tight and strong while the top felt writing surface that lifts up is wiggly, but still very much intact. Very nice old lap desk. The wood connection at the back of the desk has slightly come undone as the wood seems to have moved a bit with age. Cash drawer, and its combination lock are. The cash drawer does open but we do not know the combination. The station measures 63" wide, 20" deep in the body and 31" deep overall, 69" tall, and believed to be made of oak and pine. The window portion comes apart from the bottom and slides onto pegs keeping it in place. Vintage Antique Old Wooden Desk One Room School House Tennessee Lovely Patina
Purchased many years ago by the current owner for a larger home than the bungalow* she now resides in. The owner of the store where she purchased it from had tagged it as about 100 years old from a one room schoolhouse in Tennessee. The photos say it best. I have included with and without flash photos so you can see its the hues in different lights. The patina is eye candy, and the strong grain stands smooth and proud with the natural sheen from decades of books sliding back and forth across it. The desk stands tight and level and is in superb original condition with all the original wood pieces, screws and hardware, including the desk latch/lock-simple yet efficient. The only non-original item is a small well done wood brace that you have to stick your head inside the desk and look up to find. The brace has brass round-head screws which ... moresuggests a post-war repair since flat-head iron screws are more common from pre-war construction and this type of fastening is what is used in the desk. It is approximately 21" inches wide and 20" deep, it stands 27" tall in front and 31" tall in back, the bottom shelf is 8" x 21" the inside of the desk storage area is 19" wide and 17" front to back and varies from 4" to 6" deep. I have looked at maybe 500 + photos of old school desks and have found only one of similar construction(and it is from England and is listed only as"Old School Desk" for $800 USD) This gives some credence to the one-room schoolhouse the dealer claimed. Probably built by a local carpenter out of Tennessee Pine or similar local wood just for this single classroom. I cannot guarantee any special providence or exact age for this item but can only tell you what the dealer told my client. How it was tagged and what I have found out in my research. It is 28 inches high. And the wooden top is 18 deep by 30 inches across. The flat top has a lip of about half an inch high at the back of it. The desk is steady and sturdy. Quite heavy for such a small thing. It is excellent quality and has a romantic vintage feel. Vintage Antique Wooden and Cast Iron Student’s School Desk with Glass Inkwell
This is a sweet antique school desk is in good condition. I bought it about 30 years ago at an antique store in Ft. Worth. Tx. and refinished it. The wood is probably pine. The desk has been kept on display indoors since its purchase. If you are familiar with these desks. The kid in the seat behind actually uses this desk. These were a little before my time, but that appears to be how they worked. When the seat is down. The desk is about 30 inches in depth, 21 inches wide, and 25 inches tall. The dimensions of the top of the desk are about 20 ½ wide by 13 ½ deep. There is an indention for a pencil and a wooden‘cubby’ for papers and books. The seat in the front and flips down for seating and up if not needed. It also has a clear glass inkwell for‘real’ ink– no ball points yet. The sides are made of heavy black cast iron and have ... morethe number 4 embossed on each side. The feet have holes for screwing the desk into the wooden school house floor. There are some small gouges on the edge of the desk(could have been a pocket knife) And some stains(probably ink) You know how kids are! Antique childs wooden desk and chair Vintage
This desk was my Dads. Then my Aunts and then passed back and forth between cousins and has been in storage for decades. It measures 33 1/2" X 14" X 21 1/2" and the chair is 26" tall. It is in great shape considering its age and has only normal wear with some crayon markings inside the drawer, the chair is more worn and has a sticker on the backrest. This is a wonderful antique faux painted Lap Desk from the early 1800's. It is in very good condition for its age and use. The desk has all of its original finish. The desk has its original glass ink holders. It has a small shrinkage crack on the top lid of the desk which does not detract and adds to its lovely authentic original charter. The small inside compartment lid is missing. The desk does not have a key. The desk measures approx. 10 inches or 25.5cm long x 12 inches or 30.5 cm wide x 31/2 inches or 9 cm deep. Offered for sale is this gorgeous hand-made. All wood, German storage bench with custom French country theme pillows and seat pad. This is a very old original piece, although I don't know the exact age, I was told that it is at least 100 years old. The wood is a washed, stressed wood that appears to be old and wormed, but that is purposeful as to give it that old world look and feel. The bench serves both for sitting bench and as a large storage area beneath. The French country theme large pillows and pads were custom designed and are in like new condition. This auction is for an antique wooden desk. This item would be great for a DIY project. It measures: 48" long by 18 1/2" wide and stands 20 1/2" tall It is in good condition. Although it will need some tlc 6 out of the 8 drawer pulls match There are 3 places. Under the drawer, where the veneer is missing. There is a chair included. But it is just being added. Did not originally come with the desk.
