1836 LOW POST / SPOOL or ROPE BED in CHERRY WOOD "NO RESERVE" A-1 CONDITION
NO RESERVE A 19TH CENTURY(CIRCA 1936) LOW POST/ SPOOL or ROPE BED in CHERRY WOOD. PICTURES DO NOT REFLECT THE TRUE CHERRY RED COLOR OF THE WOOD. WHICH IS LIGHTER THAN WHAT IS SHOWN. This consists of a headboard. Footboard and two side rails. The spools of the bed were individually turned by a turner at a lathe. Remeniscant of the Jenny Lind style beds. This piece is gorgeous and in A-1 condition. I would assume that the slats crossing over are not original to the piece. But can be used with a mattress instead of ropes! The bed measures 78 inches X 54.5 inches overall on outside of where the bed sits. The inside measurements for a mattress are 48 inches X 71-72 inches. This does not fit a 3/4 size mattress. What is certain is that most of the confusion lies in that these OLD VINTAGE/ANTIQUE pieces were a result of a series of OLD Colonial Revival-style reproductions, created under the trade name"Maddox Colonial Reproductions" However, these"reproductions" were created between about 1918 and the 1950's! So while they are"reproductions" of much older colonial-age furniture pieces. The"reproductions" are now themselves vintage& antique. Make sense? I've seen a few exactly like the one I'm listing here in worse condition. Asking hundreds of dollars, and 90% of the listings know very little about them if anything. Further research on my part. History of R-way Northern Furniture Company Furniture with the Northern Furniture Company brand name was manufactured in Sheboygan between the years 1904 and 1949. The company was originally founded by George B. Mattoon in 1881. The plant grew from a modest start until by 1900 it covered twelve acres and employed some 800 workers. This enterprise was known as the Mattoon Manufacturing Company until the founder's death in 1904. The name was then changed to the Northern Furniture Company. In 1916 the firm was bought by the Reiss interests. The name was changed to R-Way Furniture.
