But it will really always be"Grandpa's writing desk" Unfortunately my seller is downsizing their home and grandpa's desk needs to find a new place to go. It is a lovely little piece measuring 39" tall. 27" across and 15" deep. It is in nice condition given it's age, but it does have a small chip out of the front right corner post. You can see it in the photos. The interior is plain with no shelves, drawers or cubbies. The information that I received from the appraisal company is as follows: The drop front oak(not quarter-sawn oak) writing desk is a Mission style Arts and Crafts desk; there is a keyhole in the top of the fall front and a small gallery or backplate on the top back of the desk. There is an"H" stretcher in the middle bottom of the desk and a vertical"X" stretcher on each bottom side of the desk; the legs are quadrant legs; there is one drawer with round brass pulls beneath the fall front. I would date the desk C. 1900-1915; the value would be between $625.00 and $700.00 in today's retail market. Due to the size of this item it will not be available for shipping. ANTIQUE MISSION OAK BEDROOM DESK This desk is of the type used in bedrooms during the turn of the century due to the small size of most rooms during the early America years. In addition to being used as a desk they were also used as secretaries. Sewing tables and also doubled as a night stand. This desk measures 47 1/2" in length in the unfolded position. 23 1/2" folded x 23" deep x 25 1/2" high. The folding legs are turned and have wooden casters, and the drawers are made with dove tail joints. This is a very sturdy desk which I have been using for the past six years as my computer desk. There are a few blemishes which can be seen in the photo's which can be best described as scratches and a few heat scorch marks which may have been from an iron. A lamp to close to the surface, or from a sewing machines motor heat ... moreall of which add to the patina of this beautiful desk. It has not been re-finished and am sure it could be if the buyer chooses to do so. I am not sure of it's origin but have seen a few similar which have been described as an item made in New England. This particular one was purchased from an antique store in Colorado over 30 years ago. This is a very fine antique American carved oak desk. It is large and very substantial with a new set in felt top framed by oak. The drawers are carved. Dovetailed and retain the original brass knobs. It has fancy carved corners and panels framed by decorative moldings all around. The doors have nicely carved raised panels and decorative moldings. Antique American Standard Furniture Co Solid Red Oak Schoolmaster's Desk 59.5"W
This incredible desk by Standard Furniture Company of Herkimer. New York is in good condition and measures 59.5"W x 35.5"D x 30.25"H. This desk has went from schoolmaster's to a local steel mill's office to somebody's garage as a common work bench( Don't worry. Though, it has survived and fortunately it wasn't beaten up too bad. There are replace handles on the main drawer which locks each of the drawers when closed. These drawers must be in their specific cubby hole to work which are all signs of superior quality(you know the whole locking thing with specifically numbered drawers) I'm pretty sure I have the key for this desk somewhere. There are some scrapes to sides& gouges to the body but nothing too bad. I tried to give some detail in the pictures which I'm going to expand. This desk has ... morebeen tucked safely away in Handbanino's vaults for awhile and rather than waiting and prolonging its vacation I cleaned it off and gave as informative of a snapshot of where it's at right now. My deadline was 8 PM today and no matter what it was going on. No more scrubbing this a little more or evening out the finish out some more over there all though I will probably touch it up some more before it arrives in your home. It's not easy to get outdoor lighting. A good photogenic appearance, a decent natural backdrop to line up so I hope everything looks clear enough. The sun gave it a little bit of an alien glow but I tried to grab the most normal pictures, the top being detailed from left to right in the last three. As you can see there are some zones of"extra patina" over the wood grain but those have gone done from what it originally showed up with.
