The wood is probably walnut or mahogany and does have age wear- a solid box- both the cover and the bottom have splits as you can see in the photos- has the compartments- one of the small dividers is missing- not sure if the locking mechanism works as there is no key. I tried to capture the writing in a picture, but could only get the first part of the name. The name stands out the most. Made from mahogany and walnut. The secretary is solid and strong with no loose joints. Sits on large ball and claw feet, 3 bottom serpentine drawers with decorative brass pull handles, drop front desk with six pigeon holes and a small drawer and storage above the small drawer. Hutch has two doors with glass and decorative detail and 2 shelves. There is no breaks, chips or cracks to the glass. Comes with the original key to lock the top and bottom. This is a one piece secretary and measures 78" tall counting the finale, 30 1/2" wide and 17" deep. There is some lacquer loss on the finial and a small amount on the doors. Overall great condition. Only part of the paper tag is on the back so maker is unknown. As with all antiques including vintage or used items expect to find some signs of wear, use, nicks, rubs or scratches and age wear to finish that is common to all antiques due to age and use. This box has a rather Art Nouveau look to it. The box has a little drilled hole in the side of the base. Through which fine string or ribbon can be threaded and then pulled out beneath the top, but it can also be used as a standard box for holding paperclips or small items on a desk or dressing table. The item is nicely made and has an old paper label underneath which reads"Au Printemps" So I think this was orignally sold in France. Condition is overall very good. Ut there is some wear to the green varnished areas in the top design- but this is still a lovely and rare piece. If used as a string box. I know it is really old from the early 1900's and has not been refinished there is minor scratches due to age. But over all in wonderful condition. The drop down has 3 small drawers the right side arm that comes out when you pull down the drop down is missing it is the arm that should be next to the top drawer on the right see picture. It is solidly constructed, and stands 93" tall including pediment. it comes apart into two pieces making it easier to move. the top cabinet with glass doors is 62" tall and is rather shallow at nine inches which is nice if you don't want too bulky a piece. the bottom stands 31" and is 18 inches deep at the top, the cabinet being 15 inches deep. it is 38" wide. With desk folded down it is 23" deep. It has some insect gouges, I guess you might call them and other flaws and some wear. Pediment has been repaired. but you can hardly tell. Antique Oak Desk and Matching Chair For Sale. The desk measures 47" long.30" tall and 26" wide.The chair slides under it. There are 2 wide drawers on top and 3 drawers on the side. The second drawer needs some repair work done on it. Has some damage inside. The back of the desk has a splintered piece.See picture. This is nothing major. The repairs are minimum and we used it just find without fixing it. We never used the drawer and the issue in back no one could see. Antique Oak desk circa 1930 from the European Revival Line by Lifetime Furniture
A masculine and substantial heavily carved solid oak desk. Paper stamp says"Lifetime Furniture" which is from the Grand Rapids Bookcase and Chair Co. operated until 1956) 36 1/2" wide by 66 1/2" long and 31" tall. This desk has spent its life. Up until a month ago, in the St. Ignatius Retreat House in Manhasset, NY. which has closed down. St. Ignatius is a Tudor Revival Palace built by utilities and tabacco mogul, Nicholas Brady in the 20's. It was also called Inisfada, meaning Long Island in Gaelic. In 1937 it was donated to the Jesuits. As the photos will show. The doors across the drawers are missing and two of the feet have a small section missing. There are a lot of surface scratches and a couple deeper one on the top. The finish is worn off in many places. My wife loves them as plant stands, a great time to pull out those special pieces of board you have been saving. Vintage Antique Oak Standard Furniture Company Pedestal Desk - 1/4 Sawn - NR -
A beautiful 1/4 sawn Tiger Oak Desk. made by Standard Furniture Company in Herkimer. NY. ca 1895- 1920. The top is about 30" deep and 50" wide& 1 1/2" thick. The build design allows you to get it into tight places. The top comes off of the pedestals and the stringers come out- makes it easy for one person to move. The pedestal feet are wrapped in brass and all the original hardware is intact. The drawers lock when the center drawer is in. The kneehole is braced with brass chair impactstrips on both sides and is about 19" wide. Left side- 3 separate drawers Right side- 2 separate drawers(top is standard. This is a GREAT pair of ORIGINAL cast iron seat legs and brackets. These are from theater seats that were all attached to each other. The seat portion would fold down/up. This incredible desk by Standard Furniture Company of Herkimer. New York is in good condition and measures 59.5"W x 35.5"D x 30.25"H. This desk has went from schoolmaster's to a local steel mill's office to somebody's garage as a common work bench( Don't worry. Though, it has survived and fortunately it wasn't beaten up too bad. There are replace handles on the main drawer which locks each of the drawers when closed. These drawers must be in their specific cubby hole to work which are all signs of superior quality(you know the whole locking thing with specifically numbered drawers) I'm pretty sure I have the key for this desk somewhere. There are some scrapes to sides& gouges to the body but nothing too bad. I tried to give some detail in the pictures which I'm going to expand. This desk has ... morebeen tucked safely away in Handbanino's vaults for awhile and rather than waiting and prolonging its vacation I cleaned it off and gave as informative of a snapshot of where it's at right now. My deadline was 8 PM today and no matter what it was going on. No more scrubbing this a little more or evening out the finish out some more over there all though I will probably touch it up some more before it arrives in your home. It's not easy to get outdoor lighting. A good photogenic appearance, a decent natural backdrop to line up so I hope everything looks clear enough. The sun gave it a little bit of an alien glow but I tried to grab the most normal pictures, the top being detailed from left to right in the last three. As you can see there are some zones of"extra patina" over the wood grain but those have gone done from what it originally showed up with. Selling this wood secretary desk. This was made by the Rockford Chair and Furniture Co. Rockford ILL. I am not 100% certain, but the research I've done makes me believe it was made between 1920 and 1930, but I could be wrong. This desk measures about 32 1/4" wide by 40" tall. Measures about 17 1/2" deep when closed and 29 1/2" when opened. Has various signs of age/use. Such as light scratches, a chip out of the front foot and some rough marks in the one drawer.
