As I peruse the listings I see very similar desks all made in different places. In the days of these desks they must have been made more or less locally since there weren't highways and trucks to transport them around the country. This desk. As I presume the others as well, was patented, yet all the desks are pretty much the same. I don't understand that, maybe it was hard to enforce the patent laws back then. at any rate, this one was made by the S. S. Case Co. in Hartford. Connecticut prior to 1910. If you really want one of these desks and there isn't one local for you I am willing to ship this. It really is too large for me to find a box for it so it will have to go by freight. The desk weighs around 70lbs and I would strap it to a skid which weighs about 40 Lbs I would then stretch wrap it to keep it clean. I'm putting 130 in the freight calculator as the weight. But feel free to check other carriers on your own and I'll work with you. I've heard good things about Uship.com but you'll have to check them out for yourself. The main structure is satinwood which has a lovely blonde finish to the wood. Hopefully the photos illustrate the intricacy of the hand painted Sheraton motifs including lyres. Floral garlands, arabesques and reefs. It's stunning. This is further accentuated by the rosewood banding. The amount of craftmanship that has gone into this is breathtaking if you imagine each piece of design has to be cut from the softer fruitwoods and then embedded into the main structure of the desk. You can only imagine how long this would take to achieve for a piece ... morelike this. Just look at all the cubby holes. Drawes and compartments. Plus the green tooled leather writing surface. The term'Carlton House' has become a popular phrase to describe a writing table with a low superstructure that encloses the sides of the writing area as well as the back. The Prince of Wales. Later George IV, commissioned a table of this model in the 1790s for Carlton House. The desk has a leather topped writing area surrounded by small drawers, cupboards and storage areas. There are also five larger drawers to the front of the desk so there is ample storage space on this piece. Each of the drawers also has more inlay work, as do the legs and the sides. It is wonderfully embellished with hand painted scenes protected under a thick lacquer. Leaving the surface glossy and brilliant throughout. The top has a short walled gallery around three sides with a painted scene of Putto at play over a collection of six tiny hand dovetailed drawers and a pair of letter slots flanked by tiny doors with Classical painted figures. The surface of the desk is crafted such to easily pull outward for a deeper projecting writing surface. As visible in the slideshow of pictures. This results in a comfortable depth for functional use. A set of three drawers slide easily in ... moreand out of the case, each hand dovetailed with machine-beveled bottoms that slide into rabbets in the frame for a permanent strength. The entire desk rests over turned and tapered legs with yellow-painted fluting over plain french toes, resulting in a hint of Louis XVI influence in the overall form. This is a wonderful antique faux painted Lap Desk from the early 1800's. It is in very good condition for its age and use. The desk has all of its original finish. The desk has its original glass ink holders. It has a small shrinkage crack on the top lid of the desk which does not detract and adds to its lovely authentic original charter. The small inside compartment lid is missing. The desk does not have a key. The desk measures approx. 10 inches or 25.5cm long x 12 inches or 30.5 cm wide x 31/2 inches or 9 cm deep. This was found in an estate with many lovely items and this was the woman's moms desk from when she was a child. There was a letter found in the box that which is included. Offered is a large and drop dead gorgeous hand painted satin two part Bow Front Breakfront. With fully fitted desk interior. I am on the fence weather it is English or American, but leaning English. Imposing piece, top has 4 doors total, double door center, and one single on each end opening in opposite directions. Side panels are parallel to the back(wall) while the center section is bowing out about 4" 5" Each section has a fully functioning lock. There are 3 adjustable shelves inside each section, held up by metal plugs, which can be moved up or down. Corners of each door are decorated with lovely Adams Style painted wreath/ leaf branch. This top can fit any or all of you china sets, or any great collection of quality smalls. Great lines and proportion top and bottom of the breakfront. Bottom is too busy with drawers! Nice combo ... moreof storage and utility. There are 4 doors on the bottom, double center and two sides, matching the top in shape and symetry, each with one shelf inside. Band above features fully fitted drop drawer leather top desk, with 3 mail/document compartments in the middle flanked with two drawers on each side. Leather is green, with beautifully silver tooled edges. To get the desk functional, one would pull the drawer out to desired distance, then press the large brass button(one on each end of the drawer) and the"drop front" would unlock, than come down prostrate ready for use. Chinoiserie Painted Secretary Desk Black with Red Lacquer
You are bidding on a brand new secretary that I purchased on Ebay just 2 months ago. I thought it would work in a particular space in my home but I didn't measure properly for that space. It is a really chic and beautifully articulated secretary with a patinated finish that makes it look old. The lacquer on the exterior is not high gloss but the red lacquer paint finish inside really pops. It's a fantastic contrast. What I like is the quality paint work of each panel on the outside which is painted with a different scene. Each drawer inside has a different painted scene. All of the interior compartments are finished and painted all the way around and the insides of each drawer and the entire exterior of the drawer is painted. The top part is separate from the bottom part. When I had it delivered 2 months ago it was completely wrapped ... morein plastic and all of the fixtures were wrapped with paper. Foam and then scotch taped to protect the hardware. I really tried to make it work but now I know I can't fit a secretary in that space and I need to sell it. I live in a pet free/smoke free home. This secretary hutch bookcase desk is beautiful reclaimed& restored elegance! Perfect shabby chic furniture for your farmhouse. Country cottage, beach house, spare room or home office. 61" tall x 30 1/4" wide x 11 1/4" deep. With front down 25-1/2" deep. Desk top is 28 1/2" wide x 25" deep x 14- 1/4" tall. We hand paint by brush so you will LOVE it! This bookcase with drop front desk top is done in French White. A pure white with hint of cream color added for a more aged white. Edges lightly distressed. It is great condition for her considerable old age. We date to around 1920 or so. Solid wood. Red Barn's refinishing is an art. and a labor of love. Up for sale a wonderful. Beautiful antique desk and chair that has been chalk painted and distressed. The color is called Caribbean blue and the hardware was painted white. The pictures do not do this piece justice and it is just absolutely beautiful! The desk measures 40 inches long, 30 inches high, and 20 inches wide. Vintage Shabby Chic inkwell desk painted in chalk paint
Scalloped Inkwell desk painted in Valspar Sea Mist Chalk paint. Very stable and pretty to look at. With 2 cubby holes on top. The holes both have original covers(very rare) with their original hardware. The 2 drawers had to have the hardware replaced. The desk features Scalloped edges that contain 2 large shelves on the bottom. I can not offer shipping on this item, but it is available for local pick up. Desk measures 33" X 29" The desk itself is very roomy offering a great spot for all your office needs. But this doesn't have to be an office desk. It is a great piece of furniture for any room.
