One of the most interesting thing about this desk is that in the upper corner of the right door there is a piece of paper taped inside that lists the presidents of the United States and has 24 of them with Woodrow Wilson being the last one and the date listed is 1893. This piece looks like perhaps the top may have been added later, not sure, and also where the slant top is looks like it was altered at one time as well. An amazing piece, all pegged. It has 3 hidden compartments and lots of pigeon holes and small drawers. It comes with the keys for the upper hutch. The fold down desk and the small door inside but not the drawers below. It has the original glass, which is wavy and has bubbles in it, in both panels on the left side but not on the right side. One pane is missing on the right side but would be easy enough to replace. Lots of character on this gorgeous old piece. It measures 81 inches high, 47 inches wide and is 23-1/2 inches deep at the bottom. It comes apart in two pieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. Lenoir, North Carolina-the underside of the table is also stamped: Oval Table-Cherry-29-etc. Made of Cherry wood-medium, chestnut brown stain allows for much of the grain in the wood to show. Set consisted of table with removable center piece-5 regular chairs and one captain's chair with arms-hutch and buffet. I bought these 20 years ago and now am getting different furniture. I had the seats professionally reupholstered long ago to match my decor(olive green/goldish print)I have always kept seat pads on the chairs when in use-so the seats are in great condition. Table measures 58" x 40" x 30 1/2" tall-with an additional center piece that measures 12" wide. The Hutch is 47" x 15" x 70" tall. The Buffet is 57" x 17 1/2" x 30 1/3" tall. Overall very nice condition-normal wear for being 84 years old. Some things I would mention are that the wood color of the center piece section is darker than the rest of the table, it was like that when I bought it-possible meant for contrast or maybe because it was stored out of the light)also a slice of the corner wood has broken off as can be seen the the picture-back rt corner of section. Also-a bit of wood had chipped off the top corner of the table leg(tiny but I mention it to be exact-not seen from the top) The legs screw off with attachment bolts to remove them for storage. Also, one chair missing a decorative wood curve on front leg-shown in pic. Also- scratch on table top-6" and 1 1/2"shown in last pic. If I missed something-please ask. Then it goes down into a barley twist post base and a barley twist center cross brace. It is of European origin and dates from the 1880s. It also has the original metal hardware, which is absolutely incredible and ornate as well. The front door of the secretary that would open down as a writing service has been broken off, and in half horizontally, however, the hinges are intact and it could easily be repaired. This door is 14" top to bottom, 20" wide. There is a lot of light staining and wear as well as scratches and dings to the finish.

Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. The desk is a reproduction made by the Maddox Table Co. of Jamestown, New York. This desk comes right out of the New England estate. The desk has those wonderful features most folks are looking for, such as all-wood drawers with dovetail corners, and clawed feet. The hardware and locks are the originals that came with the desk, not replacements. The desk was in my family for around ... more60 or so years, so the desk dates to at least 1950, and it may be older than that- I'm just not sure. The desk is the slant-front style, hinged at the bottom, so it opens up and the front lays flat to become the writing surface; the desk front can be locked. When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. Inside the desk there are 3 small drawers, and holders for stashing letters and so forth. In the center of the opened desk, inside, there is a closed compartment with no lock; the compartment door is scratched. There are 3 drawers below the writing surface that extend almost the full width of the desk, and each one of them can be locked. These drawers have a graceful bow front(see photos) Above the desk itself is a prominent feature, a bookcase with 2 shelves covered by hinged glass doors that swing out and can be locked. The bookcase doors do not line up 100% vertically when closed, a common problem with these desks. Drop the lid down to expose a wonderful detailed interior that consists of multiple drawers and multiple cubbyholes. A carved raised panel center door and two cleverly disguised hidden compartments behind flame finial spindles. The writing surface is really large There are some nicks and dings due to use and age of the piece. The four drawers underneath the writing surface are all dovetail and all oxbow. From research I have done on the Internet I believe that this is an antique mahogany Chippendale style secretary bookcase with drop down desk and claw and ball feet. There are three shelves on the upper bookcase with original glass door. It has four drawers below the drop off desk. It is in excellent condition. Everything in its original state. There is one key for the bookcase. This has been in my mother's home for as long as I can remember. There are no labels on the back. The only problem that I see is the center decoration on top is loose. There are no other outstanding problems. This is local pick-up only or you may arrange for shipping. Welcome! I am proud to be offering for your consideration this antique mahogany secretary desk or Gov.Wintrop circa 1940s. This big old secretary was found in the basement of an old home here in NH. It does have a few tell tale features caused by the damp concrete that we want to declare. Even though they are no longer really an issue. The very bottom of the backboard has rippled plywood(see photo) when placed against the wall you will not see at all, and the very bottoms of the veneered sides were lifting and have been reglued. Because of this we are listing this secretary for about half its value. The secretary has original finish, original brass hardware. It has a really nice 8 1/2" tall turned finial on top of the traditional'broken arch' top. It has two fixed shelves in the bookcase top behind glass doors with original fret ... morework over the glass. It has a big mechanical lid or writing surface in good condition but for a tiny veneer chip(no cracks) The interior of the desk is serpentine shaped with 5 drawers, a doored compartment and two'secret' vertical drawers. The secretary drawers have serpentine fronts, are all dovetailed and in good shape. This piece has three Maddox labels, one brass and two paper. It is a two piece secretary for easy moving. MAHOGANY BALL AND CLAW SECRETARY DESK / DRESSER - Manufacturer Unknown
I am not certain about the origins of this desk but it is beautiful. The only flaws are 1. The brass rail on the top is just sitting there and needs to be glued down. And 2. There are some minor scratches. See the pictures for details on both. I am not sure about the age, who made it or what wood it is made from, but it looks like mahogany. Very nice solid mahogany Chippendale Governor Winthrop desk/secretary. Wonderfully constructed desk with very clean lines and detail. You see similar desks often and this one is so so much better! Solid wood even the lattice work in the upper doors. Check out the interior it is spectacular also. The finial in the center of the broken arched top is fine. Just all details are spot on. It has very little of it left but there is a John Widdicomb paper tag on the back and explains the quality. I date this circa 1920-30 at best. It has two fixed shelves in the bookcase top behind glass doors with original fret work over the glass. Up for your consideration is a Wonderful Secretarial desk. With the Flint& Horner label on the back of this fine furniture. We place the date of this beautiful desk between, 1915 and the 1930's. giving this piece some serious history considering its origin is New York and its now on the West coast. This Excellent Secretarial Desk has 3 Skeleton key holes and 1 original Barrel skeleton key that comes with it. It has very few scratches. One on the left edge of the desk table, a very small ding on the 4th drawer to the right side center and a small scrape on the base just below the 4th drawers right handle. His inspirations drew upon an a wide variety of patterns and themes, which to name a few were.caryatids, winged gargoyles, northwind faces, cherubs, man-of-the-mountain, and winged griffins. Later in Life. In 1915. R.J. Horner merged his business with another inspired furniture producer, George Flint to form Horner and Flint though neither were officers of the company. Horner retired at the time of the merger but his son, Robert Horner Jr. managed the business for at least another year. Contemporary ANTIQUE Art Nouveau DROP FRONT DESK / SECRETARY + BENCH Mahogany
1890-1920 ART NOUVEAU DROP FRONT DESK/ SECRETARY + BENCH This turn-of-the-century mahogany desk has been finished in a durable satin oil-base paint to bring a contemporary feel to a classic antique style. It features plenty of storage space within a compact design. Opened or closed. This desk makes a statement in elegant simplicity. There is a slight crack in the wood at the bottom left of the door. Only on the outside. it does not go through, nor does it affect the beauty or functionality of the piece. It is a minor flaw and very common in a 90+ year old antique. As you will see from the image above(as in real life) It is not noticeable until you are specifically looking for it, or until your face is right up to it. As in the image below. The height of this desk is 50.5 inches. But don't worry about transporting it. It breaks down into ... moretwo sections. The top section sits down snuggly into the bottom section. So there is no risk of it tipping off. It needs to be lifted straight up out of the base to disassemble it. The depth of the desk is 15 inches. So this could even be used in a smaller room, giving you the advantage of an all-inclusive secretary without the large footprint. The width is 31 inches. This is a perfect size! You can see from the back how the top section sits down into the base with a protective moulding around the front and sides. Even with the bench. The footprint of this desk is minimal. and how gorgeous is its profile? And. By the way, the moldings and applied carvings are all intact throughout. Here's a picture with the unit broken down. When you look at the base. You can see how deep the moulding is that wraps tightly around the upper section, but you can't see the groove inside the moulding that drops the upper section even further down into the base. If you look at the very bottom of the upper section, you will see the extension of the sides that fit into that groove. Beauty. Simplicity, functionality all in one small secretary! 1940ish Maddox Mahogany Secretary Desk in VG
This Maddox Secretary Desk is from the 1940's. It has been in my family since I was born. It is approximately 84 inches tall. 36 inches wide and 21 inches deep when closed. When opened the table top/desk measures 35 in. x 15 in. There is one flaw on the top left of the bottom drawer and can be seen in the fourth picture. The top section is removable and held in place with screws. Overall this Maddox Secretary desk is in very good condition. Local Pick Up Only. I am located in Olmsted Falls. OH.

This beautiful antique writing desk has all original distressed wood except for the birch writing surface which has been replaced. The wood surfaces have a new sealed finish. New brass hardware was added. All drawers and doors are in working condition. Locks are not operational(no keys) The desk overall measures 48" tall and 41" wide. VINTAGE SALESMAN'S SAMPLE MINIATURE MAHOGANY SECRETARY DESK. Please check out my photos because this is a very nice little deck. I do not know the maker or the date of manufacture. HIGH quality. Dovetailed drawer joints, brass fittings including hinges, handles, pulls& screws. I am not certain on the scale, as full size dimensions are not known, but measures approx. 18" tall, 16" wide, and between 9" deep. Has a minor scrape on the top, and the back corner is a little dinged. A truly beautiful, rare piece.

This is a very nice Chippendale style mahogany secretary desk. The desk is complete and is in good condition with several cosmetic flaws but great structural integrity. This desk is complete with original"Genuine Mahogany" tag(photo#3) 2 paper Maddox tags and a metal Maddox shield(photo#9) The shield reads"Maddox Colonial Reproductions Jamestown, NY. The desk is complete with claw feet(photo#5) and beautiful top decoration(photo#4) There are four large drawers in the bottom part of the desk that work perfectly. The desk is quite beautiful when you put the slant top down into writing position. The writing surface is in nice condition but does have several scratches on it. There are five small drawers across the inside of the desk that are topped by 8 letter slots(4 on each side) an open center space with a door, and two hidden ... morevertical pillar drawers(photo#6) There is some damage around the knobs of the drawers and door, particular the center drawer and door, and something stuck inside one of the letter slots(see photo#7) The glass doors on the top of the desk are in very nice condition with the only visible flaw being some imperfection(retouching? in the finish at the center of the doors(photo#8) There are three shelves behind the glass doors. The top shelf has some paper stuck on three side of the back left corner(I do not know if it can be removed or what the finish looks like underneath it) and a circular scuff mark on the back in the center(photo#10) On the lower portion of both the right and left side there is some kind of residue or damage(photo#11) I do not know exactly what it is or if it can be repaired. Finally, the curved parts that stick out above the first large drawer have some damage from moving(photo#12) This desk was in the living room of my grandparent's house from the 1950's or 1960's until we recently sold the house and moved it up to New Jersey.
