The desk features ... morea gorgeous original finish and period hardware. There are four graduated drawers over flared french feet and shaped skirt. The drawer fronts have book-matched crotch mahogany veneers and cockbeading. The fitted interior(sorry for the dust) has burl walnut veneers, ebonized pulls and boxwood stringing. The interior cupboard door opens to reveal a drawer with a secret drawer behind. See photo) The desk measures 44" high by 39 1/2" wide by 20" deep. In overall very good condition. There is some minor loss to the veneer on the feet which we will restore for you. The desk lid is cupped which makes the desk impossible to lock properly though we do have a key. I don't think we want to try to address this particular issue but please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. There is also some cracking of the veneer on the lid but it is all stable, nothing loose. The desk has great color and patination and is guaranteed to be as described. You are bidding on a beautiful Antique Mahogany English Inlaid Desk. Unsure exactly how old this desk is but I have been told that it is possibly from the mid to late 1800's. There is such great detail all around this desk. On the top part of the desk there are two doors which slide open and closed. Which resembles an accordian. When the doors are open there are small pull out drawers and compartments to put pins, tacks, ink, letters, ect. The desk also has two pull out drawers on the bottom front of the desk. On the pull out drawers there are two handles for each drawer and each handle has a"hand painted porcelain piece" There are two areas that may need very little tlc. The lower part of the desk has two drawers each with it's own key hole for locking. As I mentioned. There are two area that may need a bit of tlc. The first area is in the front of the desk there are 2 doors, which easily slides open and closed. On both ends of the doors they are missing the edge of the door, which had a small latch in the middle. When the lip of the desk extends and both doors are closed they were able to be locked by the key hole which is located just underneath the lip of the desk. The second area that needs tlc is that one of the bottom drawers needs to have a ringlet placed back on. There would be no need to purchase the ringlet due to it being inside the desk. The ringlet came off during a move. I picked up this item at an estate sale in San Franscisco. California and it is a gorgeous piece of furniture. The style has become more popular as time has gone by. While having been made around 1940. This partners desk was probably not used by the military, but was made in that style. Both sides are identical and consist of a large cabinet in the left pedestal and a bank of regular drawers in the right. The middle drawers have locks but no key remains. The top is a lovely black leather that appears new. This leather has a lovely gold tooling around the outside. Leather makes a fabulous writing and work surface and has an incredibly handsome look. Mahogany is the wood used to construct the desk and it has a lovely grain and color. This antique campaign desk does separate into the top and two pedestals for easier moving. Antique English Writing Desk— Early 1900s? I got this in Dallas. Texas in 1985. I'm not a dealer or antique expert, so I'll do my best to describe this desk. The pictures will probably tell the story better than I can. The desk is 30 1/4" tall. 53 1/2" wide and 29 3/4" deep. Each leg has a wheel and the two rear legs are loose where they join the desk top. I've included pictures of the joints here and of a drawer so you can see how the desk was made. I've also included an interior picture of the desk at the top. Right, rear corner. Each of the two drawers has a lock. And they read"J.E.A.S. 2232/12" From some research, this hardware is English-made and was used on furniture in the early 1900s, so that's my somewhat uneducated guess at when this desk was built.
