There are brass accents and a lock mechanism. But no key. Stunning Edwardian Chippendale style Secretary, 19th Century
This beautiful piece has been in the family for the past 40 years. Originally purchased in a Danish high-end antique shop(in Denmark) in the early 1970's(we still have the purchase receipt! It has been the home for most of the family's heirlooms. Due to a move happening in the near future. We must part with it. It has a flat top with dental frieze moulding. This desk has been in my family 25 years. Since I bought it in western Virginia in the Shannondoah Valley in a shop. It appears to be cherry wood. There are places where wood has been retailed but no wood is missing. I can send many small pictures of areas. It is very sturdy and in excellent condition. Antique 19th Century Primative Pine Wood Schoolmaster's Slant Top Desk Gallery
Primitive Schoolmaster's Desk This is a gorgeous piece of early American history. This is a primitive schoolmaster's style desk. We are quite certain that this piece dates back to the early part of the 1800's. The desk was hand-made and was constructed using square nails. We suspect that the wood used is pine. Some sections of the desk were made using wood planks as large as 22" wide! A board on the top is 17 1/2" wide and one on the side measures 21" wide. Boards of this size only reinforce the old age of this piece. The desk has the following measurements: Height: 35" Width: 38" Depth: 28 1/2" Kneehole Opening: 23 3/4" tall(at center) by 19 3/4" wide, There are four roughly-cut drawers on the right side of the desk. They measure as follows: First: 11 3/4" wide by 18 1/4" deep ... moreby 2" tall Second: 11 3/4" wide by 18 1/4" deep by 3 1/4" tall Third: 11 3/4" wide by 18 1/4" deep by 4 1/4" tall Fourth: 11 3/4" wide by 18 1/4" deep by 5 1/4" tall, The drawer bottoms show evidence of being cut by a mill saw. They are all hand-planed and chamfered. One of the drawers does have a small hole in the face where a lock was removed. The right side of the desk is supported by 2 simple-style turned legs. There is a railed book gallery running across the back/top of the desk. This is in great. Antique condition overall with some general signs of age and use. Regardless of age, this desk is still very sturdy. It appears as though the desk was once painted, but was later striped to reveal the natural wood finish. Tiny pieces of evidence of the previous paint job can be found in corners, cracks and crevices. The drawer pulls are old, but do not appear to be original to this piece. This desk is nearly 200 years old. It shows wear consistent to its age in the form of cracks, chips, scratches and general bumps and bruises. One of kind antique 19th Century traditional burl walnut stationery cabinet decorated with bronze and elegant wedge wood plaques. The detail and quality on the traveling stationery cabinet is wonderful and just a true work of art. The cabinet is over 120 years old and in very good condition for its age.
