Antique Secretary Desk/bookcase Liberty Co Ltd. Circa 1900
Up for sale is an antique Secretary/bookcase made by Liberty Co. Ltd of the U.K. All appears original with a possible exception of the hinges on the drop-down desk. The drawer pulls are hammered copper. Overall it is 36 inches wide. And about 51 1/2 inches tall. The secretary desk area is about 26 1/4 inches wide. The fold down desk supports are 10 inches in length and the drawer is about 21 by 13 inches. The name plate for Liberty Co Ltd is on the inside of the drawer at the front. I have no keys for the locks. This was made about 1900 and the style is late nouveau or early arts and crafts. All is in excellent condition. Please view the pictues. Vintage Bolt Down Wood Wrought Iron School Desk and Bench Circa Early Mid 1900's
Made in Buffalo. New York. Vintage school desk. I can't confirm the manufacture date. The latest patent date marked on it is 1898, but I can only confirm that it was recovered in the early 1950's by a Portland, Oregon firefighter before his team burned a decrepit school house down for training. It's worn and has markings from students past. Including hearts and initials. There is a chunk of the shelf under the desktop broken off, shown clearly in the pictures. The desk itself is two-tone wood and the frame is wrought iron. MEASUREMENTS: The desk top is 28" high by 24" wide by 16" deep. The seat is 15" high by 24" wide by 13" deep. The seat back is 16" high by 24" wide and stands 31" tall off the ground. If the seat is folded up the desk measures 26" wide side to side. The ink well ... morein the desk top is just shy of 2" diameter. This desk weighs 48 lbs 6 oz. Available for local pick up in Portland. Oregon. Vintage English oak school desk with folding seat/top, w/ inkwell, circa 1920!
Offered for sale is an original English oak school desk from the 1920s. Not for toddlers. This desk was designed for students in late elementary/high school, and can readily accommodate any adult. It measures 32.5" high x 26" wide x 36" long. It's constructed of rock-hard English oak, and has a folding seat, and a lift-top desk with ample space underneath. The joinery is a beautiful dovetail construction. The desk is currently lined with removable black felt. This style of desk was immensely popular in England after WW1, primarily because of the development of rolled iron tubing.see pics. We have meticulously restored this desk, but intentionally left the original inkwell stains, and the carved names from almost 100 years ago. Antique Roll Top Desk. Circa 1920. Condition is excellent. It has a few areas that need some attention. We would use furniture polish but it probably needs a proper cleaning to wake up the wood. There are a few specks of paint on the right side. Again with a proper cleaning this can address this. The Only major defect is small burn mark on desk portion. I took many photos so what you see it what the desk has. There are 2 drawers on the shelf that were added and not part of the desk. That is why they don't match. It has been displayed in each of our homes for over 50 years. It was always stored on the main floor. Never in the basement or garage. It was cleaned and polished on a fairly regular basis. It has not dried out. We have been using it over the last few years as a computer desk. The second photo was taken by me of is of the original ... moreowner in 1959. Fine piece of Mahogany furniture made during the H.E. Shaw(Grand Rapids MI) first half of the 20th century. This ladies desk. With inset leather writing surface, is preciously inviting as a functional desk while discreetly unobtrusive by its small size.
