Vintage American Folk Art Copper Running Horse Weathervane 19th C.??
Vintage Very nice American Folk Art Copper running Horse weathervane with two copper balls. The north. East, south, west parts looks to be brass that is 18 in. long with 3 1/4 letters on them along with the brass bar stand. looks too be in great shape with no dents or cracks. Feel free to ask any Questions I will do my best to answers them. Measurements, The horse is 3/4 to 11/4 in thick. From the front foot to the tail is 25in. long. From the nose too the tail is 221/2 in. long. From the copper mounting tube to the top of the ear is12 in. tall. The copper tube the horse mounted too is 27 1/4 in long. Top of horse too the very bottom of the weathervane mount is 33 in. tall altogether. please look over all picture and ask? if have any before bidding. Sorry only ship in US. Antique VTG Copper Running Horse Weathervane 19th Century For sale is an antique copper horse weathervane. I have been told that it is an Ethan Allen running horse made by either L.W. Cushing or J.W. Fiske. But I did not see any marks so I cannot confirm this. The horse has a hollow body(two copper sides) with a solid cast iron head. The weathervane measurements are as follows: Horse Width(from bar to bar) 33” Horse Height(Ear to front leg) 16” Top of horse to the base- 4ft/ 48” The weathervane is all original. I dont see any replaced parts. Besides for the bracket on the bottom. The vane had been maintained(greased) so the horse will spin in the wind. The pole(stand) is pretty rusty. For your consideration and from a recent local Kansas City estate is this very old Zinc horse weathervane. The arrow is made of cast iron and copper. It measures 28 inches long. The horse appears to be made of zinc. It is not magnetic. It measures 11 ½ inches log and just over 2 ½ inches wide. It is missing one front leg and has come unattached from the arrow. It could be reattached easily. It has a few bullet holes as well to give it a lot of character. The horse is made of two haves attached together. There is a lot of detail to the horse as shown. Antique Copper/ Iron Trotting HORSE Weather Vane This weather vane is old. I just can't say for sure how old. It stands 20" tall and the base measures about 9" wide. The arrow measures 10" long. This weather vane seems to me to be copper and/or copper plate over iron. It is fairly heavy and as you can see in the photos, there is a distinct copper tarnish all over the piece which gives it a beautiful patina. There is also some surface rust present which might mean it has iron in the metal also. This item is in good condition, please see photos for more detail. The ball is split in the middle so it is in two pieces- but it may be made that way. I will take this item apart when I ship. US buyers to pay $16.00 for USPS shipping from 65559. ITEM: Rare Vtg or Antique Mini Table Top Weathervane. Brass and Copper 12” DESCRIPTION: This neat piece was found at a farm estate sale in mid-Michigan. I am not sure of its age. It is a miniature version of a horse weathervane. To be used as a table top decoration. It stands just under 12” tall. The horse is about 7-3/4” wide and the base is 4-1/4” wide. It appears to be made of brass and copper. There are five pieces: The horse top, the round copper ball, the North/South, the East/West and the base. When put together, the pieces spin around. CONDITION: The brass has some tarnishing and there are some little dings in the horse here and there. The detail on the eye of the horse is clearer on one side than the other. The round copper ball is in great shape with only one tiny little ding that's hardly noticeable. There is some dark staining ... moreon the base. There are some areas where it looks like some pieces may have been re-soldered. But I'm not sure– it's possible this is original. The back end of the horse on the top is coming apart slightly but it does not detract from the attractiveness of the piece. Great vintage patina! Antique Vintage running horse Weathervane. This is not a Reproduction. Most reproductions are done in 2 halves, and this has 10 pieces welded together, so it definitely has vintage/antique age, but not sure of the date. The mount looks like from the 1950's. Early 20th century or could be earlier. Looks like early piece construction. With no damage. Just good looking. Solid. The balls are brass. And the rest is copper, with a wonderful patina. VINTAGE COPPER & BRASS HORSE WEATHERVANE FROM OLD BARN
Here is an old weathervane we found in an old horse born back in a grown over field. The horse is copper and the N E S W letters are solid brass. The ball is copper. And the mounting pole is metal. It was covered with years of dust when we found it, and pictures 1 and 2 show it before it was dusted off. Note the cobwebs and thick layer of dust on the horse and the N E S W. We dusted it off, but didn't fully clean it, as we wanted to let the new owner clean it to his or her preferenes. Pictures 4, 5, 6, 9 show the weathervane after it was dusted. It is a beautiful large weathervane that stands 44 inches tall from top of horse to bottom of metal pole. The horse is approximately 30 inches long. This looks like an old timer and it has been resoldered in a few places and there are a couple of splits in the brass here and there. Picture 7 shows ... morea split in the lower tube near the horses right foot, however it doesn't affect the way the weathervane operates. When a strong breeze is in the air, the horse will swivel on its pole as all weathervanes do. New owner may want to have it repaired, but that's a matter of choice. As mentioned previously, it needs a good cleaning, but the patina that's on it now makes it have that really vintage look. Welcome, For sale is a vintage antique running horse weathervane. The head is bronze as well are the directionals while the body is copper. The horse is supported on the the original rod. The rod needs to be soldered back to the horse though. The dimensions: Horse from front foot to back foot- 32 inches. From bottom of middle foot to top of back- 8.5 inches. The directionals- 31 inches from one end of the rod to the other(height) 13 inches between each directional letter. This weathervane was produced in around the 1950's.

For the serious collector and from a recent rural Missouri estate is this fabulous. Large 19th century running horse copper weathervane with zinc/copper head. It is from the estate of an elderly man that is moving into an assisted living facility. He informed me that he was originally from New York and that he acquired this weathervane over 50 years ago in Connecticut. It measures 33” long x 20” tall. It has a fantastic wide swelled body. It measures almost 5 inches wide at the horse’s hips. It is in fabulous condition with no cracks, dents or bullet holes. The attached head is made of a heavy zinc/copper. This copper weathervane form was made by soldering two pressed halves together on top of brass tubing. His ears were separately soldered onto his head. He is large enough to be a statement piece but still small enough that you can find a place to display him. He's mounted on a small 100+ year old hand hewn barn beam. This lovely old weathervane topper is made of two sheets of copper which have been formed on a mold to create dimension and detail. Then soldered together with ears applied. We found this handsome fellow in an old barn, covered with dust(cliche, but true! in New Hampshire. Displays beautifully. We had a hard time listing him as he does look amazing in our home! Okay onward. Measures: Horse is 28"L x 13 1/2"H. Total 14" H(with support bar) Support bar is 31" L x 1/2" Diameter Condition: Really good considering he's been sitting outdoors then in a dusty old barn for years. We expected. But don't see any dings/dents, but there might be a couple. There is a very nice greenish patina or verdigris forming. The central rod that would connect to the weathervane base and directionals is missing, so there is a hole ... morein the tube and a hole in the horse where a replacement could go, however he is soldered securely to the rod by both the hind legs. Weathervane of Sulky Driver/Running Horse c. 1870 Blue Patina, Copper/Zinc
This is a wonderful antique copper and zinc weathervane that was probably designed from one of Cushing's renditions of a Sulky. Driver, and Horse in Courier and Ives as far back as c.1870. The horse is very similar to the then popular Japanese Racehorse, Blackhawk. This weathervane went to the Antiques Roadshow in June of 2010 in Billings, MT. It was authenticated by the Keno brothers and Michael as being at least as old as 1870, made up of copper and zinc, and is in very good to excellent condition. The weathervane is mounted at one point on a 31" long copper tube under the horse(as pictured) With an opening underneath with which to mount directionals, etc. The height of the vane is 17.5 inches at it's highest point and approx. 10 inches at its widest point. The patina is more oxidized on one side, giving it the bluish color ... moreof that of oxidized copper. The other side is more a darkened brownish color. The very fine reins are still intact. There are dents on one side, where possibly the vane was used for target practice. Please note that under the right ear of the horse, one can see a fold and the copper showing through the patina. This does not detract from this great piece. There are no identifying marks present or a signature. As was often the case for weathervanes. Lovely vintage brass and copper running horse weathervane on stand. Measures 14 3/4" tall and the horse is 9" long. There are what I call locking screws on the N.E.S.W. directional. Loosen these screws and directional moves and if you want the directional to be stationary you tighten the screw. Nice piece to be displayed outside in a garden/porch setting or as an indoor decor piece. Horse is removable from stand. As is the copper ball and directional arms. Very Large. About 36" nose to tail, 20" tall from horizontal rail to ears. Lovely unusually large horse weathervane. When did you ever see this model on eBay(or any other site) for under $15,000? Having said that, THIS ONE does have some dents, split seams, and may look better in the photos than it does up close in person. While I fully realize that thought doesn't help my bottom line, It doesn't mislead you in any way, especially telling yourself" It's probably better than it looks" Personally, I don't think it is. I really like this horse though, and I'm convinced other people will too- and actually make a reasonable offer. Let's Start at $ 3,700. South, East and West and has Mounting Bracket/ Base which is harder to find. Materials range from Copper, Brass and Cast Iron. This rare weathervane circa late 1800's came from an estate in Upstate NY. This is an original Victorian era piece! The hollow copper horse measures an impressive 30” from nose to tail and 15” from head to hoof. I have been told it is a J.W. Fiske weathervane but there are no makers marks so I cannot guarantee this The horse body rotates on an axis above the 18” wind indicator letters. Two hollow copper balls; 4 1/2” and 3 ½” sit atop the indicator. Overall the weathervane is in great vintage condition. With beautiful oxidation and patina. This Patchen trotter weathervane is modeled after a painting by American artist John Cameron who was popular in the late 1800's. This painting was used to make a Currier and Ives lithograph. This is considered to be a very well balanced weathervane with a highly detailed head as compared to weathervanes modeled after the horse Black Hawk. Antique c1950. Weathervane This vintage weathervane stands 37" high. 33.5" wide and has a steel Horse& Buggy ornament, solid brass directionals, 4. and 2" copper spacer balls and a steal rod. Included is a new steel weather vane mount(12.5" x 7" x 4" That will fit any pitch roof. This weathervane came off a old farm house in Clear Lake Wisconson. It depicts a running horse with a rider on a sulky. American made genre. No maker mark is present. The horse is a swelled body form with raised foreleg, rippled copper mane and ridged tail. The horse's face is copper molded. Ears are tight and forward pointing. This piece has a wonderful natural patina. The verdigris is from years of weathering. The piece has been restored as follows: each sulky wheel was mended using a short copper tubing and a spot of solder; as well. One spoke in each wheel was restored using copper. The rider was re-soldered to his seat. The copper straps on the horse were re-soldered in a few spots; the copper strapping was lightly cleaned to highlight the straps.
