Ornate Victorian scrolls and leaves decorate the arrow and the open tail frame. And everything has been painted silver. Unknown maker; there is a molded mark on one side of the arrow but it's obscured by the old paint and we can't decipher it. Nice big size. CONDITION- Vintage. Used. No cracks or breaks. One of the'leaves' on the tail frame is bent. No insert in the frame. Surface wear, soil, paint loss, a little rust visible inside the mounting hole, a couple of spots of yellow paint on the arrow tip. As described above and better illustrated in all the photos below. This was lovingly removed from the roof of our house when we were remodeling. The gentleman who was reroofing our house is an antique dealer and said"you have a real gem on your hands! The arrow is long and measures 17.5" from tail to tip. There are no cracks or breaks in the glass. Antique Weathervane Arrow Front Cast Iron Heavy Unusual Lightning Rod
Up for auction is an antique weathervane arrow front measuring 14 1/2" in length. This arrow front is cast iron. Very thick, and weights 1 3/4 lbs. This arrow would probably have had a large animal for the back end. This would have been on a cast iron or possibly copper tube and would have fit into this arrow front and been secured with the set screw shown in a picture. The set screw itself is interesting in that it has a square head and is fused to the cast iron. The hole size is about 3/4" wide suggesting this weathervane fit onto a standard tube lightning rod. The ornate arrow portion is made of cast iron and the rod the car sits on is made of brass. The car itself is made of zinc and is molded into the shape of a convertible roadster car with a driver behind the wheel. Nice detailing is on the car. No markings to indicate a manufacturer. This neat weathervane arrow would make a great addition to any antique collection! A restoration repair has been made to the car on the back portion of the car. Where the collapsible roof is located. Two small holes and two larger holes are in the car. There is also a small crack in the back edge of the car. Cast iron has some wear and light oxidation from age and use. I would guess, to the 1800s or early 1900s. The maker name is weathered but appears to be Kretzer. The arrow is in very good condition with a terrific weathered surface and traces of black paint. The collar opening is 1 inch in diameter. A superb directional arrow for your collection. Please view the photos in super-size for condition specifics.
