We have since found out through an online appraisal company that ... moreis is an Antique Drop Front Writing Desk" from around 1900-1915. But it will really always be"Grandpa's writing desk" Unfortunately my seller is downsizing their home and grandpa's desk needs to find a new place to go. It is a lovely little piece measuring 39" tall. 27" across and 15" deep. It is in nice condition given it's age, but it does have a small chip out of the front right corner post. You can see it in the photos. The interior is plain with no shelves, drawers or cubbies. The information that I received from the appraisal company is as follows: The drop front oak(not quarter-sawn oak) writing desk is a Mission style Arts and Crafts desk; there is a keyhole in the top of the fall front and a small gallery or backplate on the top back of the desk. There is an"H" stretcher in the middle bottom of the desk and a vertical"X" stretcher on each bottom side of the desk; the legs are quadrant legs; there is one drawer with round brass pulls beneath the fall front. I would date the desk C. 1900-1915; the value would be between $625.00 and $700.00 in today's retail market. Due to the size of this item it will not be available for shipping. All four Queen Anne style legs are the perfect proportion for the desk and connected with a decorative apron in the front. Beautiful brass handles were used on the two drawers. The drawers are constructed with hand cut dovetails giving a glimpse of the skill and quality of construction that went into this antique Queen Anne desk. Finally. A fully finished back allows you to place the desk anywhere in your room. Overall this desk is in very good and sturdy condition. The front right foot has a good bit of wear at the bottom as shown in the photos. There is an age separation on the back and two very small ones on the top. Minor wear in the form of tiny marks are present on the piece as well and help to give it character. The height from the floor to the bottom of the desk is 21.5″ except where the decorative apron comes down which is 19.75″ This front right leg has some wear by the foot. Antique Doten Dunton Desk Library Table Solid Wood Original
5 feet wide x 3 feet deep the height from floor to top is 30 1/2 inches. From floor to bottom edge of drawers is 25 1/2 inches has a small phone connection box inside on bottom left side. Can be seen in pic, no wires has scratches and other surface issues throughout; two indentations on front top right corner. Can be seen in pic, I do NOT know if the white spots on inside of right side are paint or something else that will wash off there are NO drawer'pull' type hardware. But looks as if it had it at one point has two small drawers on each side with the'wood burned' imprint inside; the larger drawer in the center has the paper label underneath has 2 pull out writting/work surfaces on each side above the small drawers. Left one has a piece of wood broken off, can be seen in pic has small brass pieces on the bottom of each leg. ... moreI think all four are there(sorry it is hard to tell and my back is out so I couldn't bend down to check each leg) needs a very good cleaning but otherwise still a beautifull piece under all the dust/dirt have NO idea what type of wood it is made out of not sure if this is considered a desk or library table. I'm guessing its a desk because of the drawers have no idea what the age is very heavy and I do not think it comes apart. But I do not know has been in storage for 18 years. Do not know any other information about it buyer must make ALL shipping arrangements within 2 weeks. I do not have any idea how much it weighs.
