Antique Doll's Silver Gilt Sewing Chatelaine w/ 5 Tools * Circa 1890s
Chatlne14 Antique Doll's Silver Gilt Sewing Chatelaine Continental* Circa 1890s This miniature doll sized chatelaine has three chains that are holding 5 items. A tape measure, a needle case, a wax seal, scissors and a thimble. The chatelaine top and chains and all of the tools are gilded silver(test 800-1000 pure) The tape measure has the original marked silk tape. The scissors open and close. The little needle case has some tiny needles and is stamped with the French boar's head hallmark for 800 silver. All of the tools are in excellent condition with no dents or other damage. The chatelaine measures about 4 1/4" long as shown. It is stitched onto a fabric covered board with the top chain curled around for framing. It can be removed by snipping a couple of threads and the length would be about 6" with the top chain stretched ... moreout. The top has a pin so it could be pinned to the doll's(or child's) clothing. It was once in the collection of Diane Pelham Burn and this is the piece that was photographed in plate 17 on p. 49 of her book Sew Precious. Children's Needlework Tools& Dolls' Sewing Tools. It is in the form of a book and covered with brown leather. The sides are gold embossed with scrolls. Birds, fountains and decorative borders. The'spine' is embossed'Lady's Companion' The interior is lined with velvet and printed paper(all original) The leather is in excellent overall condition. Much better than usually seen. The top is gold stamped with the maker or retailer's name, I. Bagshaw, 96 Church Street, Liverpool" It's 4 1/8" tall. 3 1/8" wide and 1 7/8" deep. Some in this style are shown on p. 92 of of Bridget McConnel's book The Story of Antique Needlework Tools. The sterling silver tools(tested) include a ... morethimble. A tape measure, a propelling pencil and a sterling topped perfume bottle. Also included are steel scissors, steel tweezers/earspoon, steel seam knife a spool and a packet of needles. The last two items are in the'secret drawer' below the thimble rest. The steel tools are held in a leather needle book which has moth damage to the wool needle page. The silver tape measure has a silk tape marked in inches and works well to wind in back in. The thimble has an applied band and wriggle work engraving. It has 3 tiny needle holes but you have to look for them. The condition is otherwise excellent. It's about an American size 9(16 mm diameter opening) The little scissors(3 5/8" long) have tight blades and sharp points and cut very well. The propelling pencil works well(twists out the lead) and it holds a 0.7 mm lead. It is stamped with the maker's name. Sampson Mordan. The cut glass perfume bottle has the original glass stopper, a sterling top and has no chips or cracks. The other tools are also in great shape with no damage. Here is a Antique Vintage Sewing Tools 1800's Wood Triple Hinged Dove Tail with Velvet interior Case with Tools. From my research this shows to be from the late 1800's. As you can see from the pictures the case is in great condition with all the hinges working perfectly. The tools inside seem to be in pretty good condition with a few showing surface rust. The Velvet in the case seems to be in pretty good condition as well. The front of the case is stamped but I cannot make it out. This is a true rare find for any collector. Up for auction is a collection of five carved bone sewing tools. These are all antique and in used condition. The group consists of two needle cases. Two awls and one ribbon threader. The first needle case measures 3 inches by just over ¼ inches wide. It twists apart to reveal the needle compartment. There is a tiny area of loss to the top of the screw edge. A single, scrimshaw line completes the top. The second needle case measures 2 ¼ inches by ¼ inches wide. It screws apart to reveal the needle compartment. There is a ¼ inch vertical crack on the top. The 2 large wood ones have end damage. The bone ones look good except for one the end has a scuff or small break. The MOP has one good and one the end is off and is just a piece more than a tool. Antique Figural Walnut Sewing Etui With Gilded tools Description: This little sewing etui has been created inside of a real walnut with gilded ormolu mounts. The top is lined with silk and a velvet covered*rack* sits in the middle. Pierced to hold the miniature tools. The tiny gilded metal tools include a thimble. Needle case, bodkin, scissors and stiletto. The petite steel scissors measure almost 1 1/4" 3.2 cm long and cut well. All of the tools are nice working condition. The thimble has a 13 mm diameter opening. The needle case is almost 1 1/8" 3 cm long and has some tiny needles. The stiletto has the original sharp point and is 1 1/16" 2.7 cm long and the bodkin is 1" 2,54 cm long. I can’t see any damage on the little tools. Victorian Antique sewing machine tools carved Chinese spool case thread cutter
Offered for your consideration is this neat lot of antique sewing tools. Dating back to the late 1800's. All are finely carved and are really unique. One is a thread cutting knife. It measures 4 1/2 inches long. The next two are bobbin cases. The tops unscrew but not sure if the bottoms had anything. There is threading which allows for something to be attached. Gorgeous Antique French Victorian Sterling Silver Sewing Etui Tools Needlework to start a new paragraph use- A gorgeous. Antique French Victorian solid sterling silver sewing etui, or kit, resplendent with lovely florals, and stippling. Circa mid 1800s, this divine needlework kit includes scissors, needle case, bodkin with wax cup, thimble, and a stiletto. During the Victorian age, the bodkin was used to lace corsets. Some older pieces contained a little"cup" at the end that was used to collect ear wax, which was then used to coat the ends of the corset strings to aid in tying them with ease. All of the pieces are sterling silver. Bearing the head of the boar mark used in France to denote pure 800/1000 sterling. The scissors are sharp, and cut well. The thimble is free of dents or holes, and measures 1.5 cm in diameter. The box ... moreis covered in rich mahogany leather. The sewing tools are all nestled in a burgundy velvet base. The box lid interior is lined with cream satin. This etui is remarkably pristine for a piece that is over 130 years old! For your consideration is this beautiful antique English made sewing set. Circa 1900. The case is covered in dark green gilded leather with a green velvet and satin interior. This cased sewing kit includes many tools that would aid in different areas of needlework. This set includes a pair of reproduction gilded bird scissors, a tiny button hook, an ox bone handled stiletto, an ox bone handled button hook, an ox bone handled lace crochet hook, a gilded bodkin, 2 Redditich needle packets. The case is marked"Melliship& Harris. Westbourne Grove" Condition: Very Good! Case is scuffed. But only the tiniest bit along the edges. Interior fabric is vibrant, though has degraded a bit around the hinges. The box is hinged with two trips of leather, one on the inside and one of the outside and the outside one is split halfway. Tools are ... morein useable condition. There is some rust on the button hooks. A stitch has come undone on the velvet strip that holds the two top tools in place. Up for auction are(6) sewing tools stilettos or sewing punches. I am not sure of the material they are made of. I am not an expert in determining what material they are. I have been told one is bone and the other four are ivory and the metal one does not have a mark on it. The metal on is broken but could be easily repaired. The larger ivory and metal one measures 3 1/2 inches and the rest vary in measurement. I purchased these from an estate sale and they were in an old sewing box.
