Gorgeous French Ivory Fitted Needlework Sewing Set Etui This beautiful hand crafted French sewing etui is believed to be from or around the Napoleon III era. The case is ivory and specially made for the different needlework tools that are found in the set. Each slot has been carved to fit each specific tool. It also appears that all of the tools match- the bodkin fits in the slot exactly. Which indicates it, too is probably original. It is not uncommon that a plain bodkin be found with a decorative set. Each tool is in excellent condition with little to no sign of wear. The guarantee mark appears to be that of two boar's heads; therefore. The set is marked for Paris. This guarantee mark was used from 1838-1962 and guarantees a minimum fineness or purity of.800 silver. That means it has the look of being 18k gold, with a“gold wash” finish, ... moreand the sturdiness and durability of silver, sometimes referred to as“continental. The pieces are all believed to be in vermeil, which means the silver has a thick layer of 18k gold. The actual makers mark is difficult to distinguish but the lozenge can be found on more than 1 of the tools nonetheless. Closure and hinges are in perfect working condition. The ivory is in superb condition with no chips or cracks. The outer case shows a beautiful blue ornate design that could perhaps be the initials of the original owner. Antique French Sewing Set Etui Silver Gilt Thimble and Scissors by Dreicer NY
This is a French sewing set retailed by Dreicer& Co. New York City, circa 1910. It comprises a silver gilt thimble by P. Genty, decorated with a central cartouche flanked by swags. It is approx. 1 x 1/2 inches. There is also a small scissor with embossed brass handles. The handles are loose from the arms. They are in a fitted velvet and silk lined leather case with gilt tooling. It was retailed by Dreicer& Co. 560 5th Ave. New York. Dreicer was one of the top jewelers in early 20th century New York. I believe it is from the early 1900s as it were owned by a girl who died in 1915 and was kept. This auction is for an Antique Carved/Fitted sewing case or an ETUI. The piece is quite heavy for its size and weights a sturdy 94 grams with the tools inside. The piece measures approximately 3 1/8 inches in length and 1 7/8 inches in width. Allowing for the release catch. It is possible that the Thimble is original to this kit; however. The scissors definitely are not original(they don't fit properly. This is an antique sewing etui. It is gorgeous with many of its original tools. A receipt from the 1980s is included. It was purchased in England and declares it to be Russian Victorian. I have no other way of verification. I haven't been able to find anything like it other than this one. It seems to be a rare piece and a rare fund. It is in delicate condition but in good condition considering it's age. One side compartment has come loose but I will leave that to the buyer should they want to repair it. There are places for thread. Needles,pins, tools and all sorts of things. Three of the tool holders in the main compartment come loose and will no longer hold tools. Antique Victorian MOP Sewing Box with Accessories Spools Scissors Thimble Tape
This Auction is for an Antique Victorian Sewing Box with accessories with a label which reads- J. Handford. Manufacturer, 157 Bazaar, 73 Oxford St. The Box. Which has a Mother of Pearl cartouche inlay with the name"Jane" engraved in the top. Measures approximately 14 inches long by 9 3/4 inches deep by 5 1/4 inches tall and is in very good condition with some quite minor cracks to the top of the box's wood and two missing pieces of what I believe are inlayed brass strips- located at the bottom of the front of the box. The inside of the box is missing the little sliding lever for holding the drop down folder holder inset in the lid and we do not have the key for the lock. The top tray of the box contains 16 Carved Mother of Pearl and bone Spools(2 with thread on them) 1 pair of MOP handled scissors. A MOP tape measure. A MOP ... moremetal banded thimble. Several MOP thread winders? a MOP thread waxer? a perfume bottle? plus several other pieces of sewing items. But I don't know what they are made to do. The sterling silver thimble is incised near the rim" STERLING- 9" and it does not have any holes. Repairs or dents and is not out of shape. The opening is 9/16" The scissors are steel and measure 4" long and has tight blades and unbroken points. They are incised" J. A. HENCKELS- TWINWORKS- GERMANY" and have the same two figures that are on the inside of the leather case. The case is 4 5/8" and the leather is supply with not tears but is worn. PLEASE check the combined shipping policy before payment! Offered is a highly ornate sterling silver boxed set of antique sewing tools. This includes two sets of matching scissors. Two button/sewing hooks, and one silver thimble. Box: Very good condition with some loss of leather to outside corners. But much better than is expected. Interior is very clean with no damage to formed velvet or satin lining. Brass hook style closure works well and latches firmly. Scissors: Beautifully ... moreornate matching floral pattern. Both marked Sheffied on steel blades. Large scissors with makers and date mark. Small scissors unmarked, but obviously a match set. Due to weight I have doubts that the large scissors have hollow handles though I have no way to know one way or the other. The tips of neither scissor's blades quite meet, but both cut well. Button/Sewing hooks: Excellent condition. Though both have a floral pattern that would be appropriate for this set. Neither are a perfect match for the formed box. This is how I found it so I'm listing it as found. Thimble: Excellent condition. Fully round with no damage. No hallmarks or size. But test at 80-90% silver. Fits perfectly into the large form. The more I look at the beautiful shield pattern beneath the crown I think I see initials, but I'm just not sure. Either way it's a very regal pattern. I wish there had been room to list more photo's. There is a lot more detail I would have liked to show you. But being limited to only 12 photo's I was forced to decide which were the most important. Which is red, fits wonderfully inside, and could be used, if buyer chooses, to actually use this as a hoop. The scissors are marked sterling and Germany The needle sharpener is marked sterling(it's towards the top so I couldn't get a picture) The thimble isn't marked at all The outside of the case is red leather that does show some wear.
