ANTIQUE FRENCH VICTORIAN CARVED WOOD"EGG" SEWING ETUI Exquisitely carved treen sewing etui. Late 19th century. I do not know what the wood is, but it has a very fine grain, lustrous patina and the screw action is very smooth. It was almost certainly intended as a sewing etui, but in France these elaborate items were sometimes used to hold a rosary. It measures approximately 3 inches(8cm) high and is 1-3/4 inches(4cm) in diameter. Condition is excellent. Apart from a slight chip on the inside of the etui. Shipping: Well packed. This lot has 1 3" long black Darning egg that is in good condition. 1 Mending Knob 7" long and 2 old dry Gourds she used for darning. The Grand kinds said their mother told them she liked the Gourds better than the other item for making repairs. My wife said put it all together as one lot including the Gourds so here it is.The Gourds are 2 1/2" long and about 3 1/4" long. 623. Sold as is used.
