Description Delightful antique late Victorian sewing bag/ purse. Which has been produced from navy faux leather with cut steel mounts and clasp. The bag has a matching handle and opens to reveal a fitted interior. The lid of the purse holds various carved bone(bovine species) sewing tools, including a needle case, bodkin and stiletto, with several other tools and steel thimbles also in the bag. AGE Circa 1880. SIZE The bag measures 12.2cm(4¾" wide. 7cm(2¾" high(not including handle) and 4.5cm(1¾" high. CONDITION The bag is in a very good condition for age. ANTIQUE FRENCH VICTORIAN CARVED WOOD"EGG" SEWING ETUI Exquisitely carved treen sewing etui. Late 19th century. I do not know what the wood is, but it has a very fine grain, lustrous patina and the screw action is very smooth. It was almost certainly intended as a sewing etui, but in France these elaborate items were sometimes used to hold a rosary. It measures approximately 3 inches(8cm) high and is 1-3/4 inches(4cm) in diameter. Condition is excellent. Apart from a slight chip on the inside of the etui. Shipping: Well packed. Antique Figural Walnut Sewing Etui With Gilded tools Description: This little sewing etui has been created inside of a real walnut with gilded ormolu mounts. The top is lined with silk and a velvet covered*rack* sits in the middle. Pierced to hold the miniature tools. The tiny gilded metal tools include a thimble. Needle case, bodkin, scissors and stiletto. The petite steel scissors measure almost 1 1/4" 3.2 cm long and cut well. All of the tools are nice working condition. The thimble has a 13 mm diameter opening. The needle case is almost 1 1/8" 3 cm long and has some tiny needles. The stiletto has the original sharp point and is 1 1/16" 2.7 cm long and the bodkin is 1" 2,54 cm long. I can’t see any damage on the little tools. This is a French sewing set retailed by Dreicer& Co. New York City, circa 1910. It comprises a silver gilt thimble by P. Genty, decorated with a central cartouche flanked by swags. It is approx. 1 x 1/2 inches. There is also a small scissor with embossed brass handles. The handles are loose from the arms. They are in a fitted velvet and silk lined leather case with gilt tooling. It was retailed by Dreicer& Co. 560 5th Ave. New York. Dreicer was one of the top jewelers in early 20th century New York. I believe it is from the early 1900s as it were owned by a girl who died in 1915 and was kept. Antique“Faux” Tortoise Shell Needlework Box Up for bid is an early 19 th century fitted needlework box from England. The outer case is truly a magnificent display of chocolate& blonde colored natural faux tortoise shell. The outer top lid is outlined in silver which is typical of the larger boxes and in particular the ones of English origin. The inner lip trim which is assumed to be that of“faux” ivory is intact on the box base& lid. The sterling silver tools seem to be intact and appear to be original to the box. The thimble. However, is a replacement and the bodkin is assumed to be a replacement. The thimble is marked in the inside top with an S in a shield which is for Simors Bros. of Philadelphia. USA. A deep purple velvet lining surrounds the tools and is also found on the upper box lid. These Georgian to early Victorian ornate ... moresewing implements include a fabulous basket shaped pin cushion, a wonderful little tape measure, sewing scissors& sheath, thimble, waxer, pencil, bodkin and stiletto. What a lovely treasure; such a beautiful piece to add to anyone’s collection! Condition Details: The silver implements appear to be in overall excellent working condition with very little sign of wear. If any at all. The outer tortoise shell at first glance appears in great condition as well. However, upon close inspection there are some minor flaws as expected simply due to items age.on the back of the box are a few hairline or thin cracks near& around the hinges. On the side of the box at the front left corner, there is a very small spot where the coating or clear like"finish" is missing. There are small chips of tortoise shell gone on the right side of the box on each bottom corner. On this same side, on the top corner toward the back there is a small place where the tortoise shell is chipped. Antique French Victorian solid sterling silver sewing etui, or kit, resplendent with lovely florals, and stippling. Circa mid 1800s, this divine needlework kit includes scissors, needle case, bodkin with wax cup, thimble, and a stiletto. During the Victorian age, the bodkin was used to lace corsets. Some older pieces contained a little"cup" at the end that was used to collect ear wax, which was then used to coat the ends of the corset strings to aid in tying them with ease. This auction is for an Antique Carved/Fitted sewing case or an ETUI. The piece is quite heavy for its size and weights a sturdy 94 grams with the tools inside. The piece measures approximately 3 1/8 inches in length and 1 7/8 inches in width. Allowing for the release catch. It is possible that the Thimble is original to this kit; however. The scissors definitely are not original(they don't fit properly. Novelty Beer Stein Sewing Etui
This charming etui is in the form of a beer stein and was made in the early 20 th century. It contains a silver colored metal thimble which is gilded on the inside and a spool for holding thread which opens to store needles. Both sections of the spool have cutters that snap the thread. It also includes a crochet hook which opens by unscrewing and a matching stiletto. The tools are all shiny and in excellent condition. This is an antique sewing etui. It is gorgeous with many of its original tools. A receipt from the 1980s is included. It was purchased in England and declares it to be Russian Victorian. I have no other way of verification. I haven't been able to find anything like it other than this one. It seems to be a rare piece and a rare fund. It is in delicate condition but in good condition considering it's age. One side compartment has come loose but I will leave that to the buyer should they want to repair it. There are places for thread. Needles,pins, tools and all sorts of things. Three of the tool holders in the main compartment come loose and will no longer hold tools. The thimble is, I'm quite sure, a replacement, and would have had a gem top like carnelion or perhaps lapis, which is no longer there. You might wish to replace it with another, but it is the one that came with this set and we'll leave it together as we found it. The scissors has beautiful silver work handles, but the old steel blades have badly corroded in this set, making this one more to be seen than used, and impacting the value too. The original scissors, stiletto and needle case remain a testament to the silversmith's creativity and excellence of design. They are beautiful! WALNUT ETUI SEWING KIT. This is what I believe to be an antique copper tone. Metal, walnut etui sewing kit, inside items are missing as well as the lining. The hinge and clasp work fine. There is a slight gap on the sides near the hinge(may be due to where the fabric was located? and a small amount of discoloration at the hinge. The walnut measures about 1 7/8" from top to bottom x 1 3/8" wide. There is a metal loop of sorts(moveable) on one side of the inside which probably held the fabric in place.
