Chatlne14 Antique Doll's Silver Gilt Sewing Chatelaine Continental* Circa 1890s This miniature doll sized chatelaine has three chains that are holding 5 items. A tape measure, a needle case, a wax seal, scissors and a thimble. The chatelaine top and chains and all of the tools are gilded silver(test 800-1000 pure) The tape measure has the original marked silk tape. The scissors open and close. The little needle case has some tiny needles and is stamped with the French boar's head hallmark for 800 silver. All of the tools are in excellent condition with no dents or other damage. The chatelaine measures about 4 1/4" long as shown. It is stitched onto a fabric covered board with the top chain curled around for framing. It can be removed by snipping a couple of threads and the length would be about 6" with the top chain stretched ... moreout. The top has a pin so it could be pinned to the doll's(or child's) clothing. A little Company History: Founded in 1872. The Newark, New Jersey, firm of Unger Brothers first established a trade in gold jewelry. It soon became better known for its silver production—which included hollowware—and jewelry. The Unger Bros was one of the most creative and premier manufacturers of Art Nouveau sterling silver items in the United States. The company's most popular lines were dresser sets and jewelry items decorated with fantastic Art Nouveau designs incorporating flowers, images of the heads/faces of women, ocean waves, as well as flowers The Unger family immigrated from Germany ... morein 1849. And changed the surname to Unger. The oldest son, Herman, established a jewelry business and began the manufacture of sterling silver items in 1878. In time all five sons joined the company. You are looking at/ bidding on an antique rare tortoise shell& sterling silver cameo chatelaine. Probably from the Victorian era, 1837-1901. Chatelaines were waist jewelry worn by the mistress of the house, to help with her household duties. Originating in medieval times, chatelaines had a number of chains suspended from a central clip, with different items attached to end of each such as scissors, thimble, pin cushion, etc. This one is tortoise shell with a carved cameo, and a sterling silver clip on the back. Three sewing items are suspended from the chains.a thimble case(I put a sterling silver thimble in it.it is NOT original to the chatelaine) a sterling silver flask for sewing needle oil, and a round revolving pincushion. I have NOT opened up the flask.the lid does not open readily and I am not going to force it. This auction is for an absolutely fabulous pair of antique sewing scissors. These would be from the late 1800's. When folded they collapse into a neat compact piece measuring 2 1/4 inches long. They open to full working scissors at almost 4 inches long. The handles are sterling. One side is marked sterling; the other has initials which are quite faded at this point. The blade near the screw says PATENT on one side. And Germany on the other. They really don't get better than this. Please feel free to ask any questions.

Antique Chatelaine Sewing Tools in Bone- Victorian
This auction is for a chatelaine with tools made from bone. It includes 6 pieces. Including the clip. They are all in a somewhat shiny white bone, with varying degrees of decoration; only the tatting shuttle is unadorned. They include an awl, a needle case, a very intricate tweezer-like affair. The most decorative piece of all is apparently an awl; it has been intricately carved and is quite remarkably. Please see photos and email with any questions. Antique Victorian Hand Made Sewing Chatelaine~Porcelain Doll Head~Ribbon~Tools
No shipping outside the US From a local estate ~ Victorian Handmade Sewing Chatelaine ~ Dates from the late Victorian– early 1900′s era. This wonderful old chatelaine consists a circular frame wrapped in silk ribbon with a porcelain dolls head at the top. And a group of bone rings entwined with ribbon to make a chain down the center. At the end of the ribbons are sewing tools ~ a bone stiletto, small thimble, thread and scissors. Top to bottom measures about 13" The frame is 6" in diameter. Condition: Silk ribbon is faded. Worn, and quite delicate and frayed. No chips or cracks in the porcelain doll head. In the photos you can see a tiny mold defect in the left cheek. One tool is missing-probably a little hand made pin cushion. Even with the age wear. This is a nice original example of a lost art from past generations, and a very ... morehard to find item. This beautiful little sterling pin case was designed to hang from one of the chains of a sewing chatelaine. It has a sterling hallmark which shows and anchor followed by a lion and ending with a capitol"R. We know the anchor stands for Birmingham. The lion for sterling, but we are unsure of the age relating to the letter R. We know it's quite old. Unfortunately, it has been cleaned, but we hope that's not too off-putting. The red felt around the center is where the pins were pushed in. You can still do this but the felt is getting rather stiff. It measures 1 1/2 inches in diameter- the clasp is another 3/4 of an inch long. It is 5/16 inch wide or deep. The piece is in excellent condition with no discoloration. the Victorian ladies wore a functional piece of jewelry called a chatelaine. attached to this jewelry would have been household. Useful items along with some pretties. this is a sewing kit. made of brass with a white metal embellishment. the hinge is in perfect working order. As is the clasp. inside is a space for needles.
