They are English. Probably once part of a set of silver sewing tools. English silversmiths didn't mark small items(and have to pay duty on them) until required to by law in the early 1880s. They have tight blades and sharp points and cut very well. The condition of the silver is excellent with no dents or repairs. They measure a petite 3 1/8" long. Maybe a goose? Foliage around the bows creates loops at the top so they could be attached to a chatelaine. They are stamped with the dagger hallmark used from 1814-1905 for 833 pure silver. Their style dates them from 1820-1850 and t hey measure 5" long. They are in nice. Usable condition with tight blades and intact points The silver has no repairs or other damage. The blades are stamped with the maker's mark"Leuchars" There is a town in Scotland by that name and William Leuchars was a silversmith in London. This is the first pair of scissors I've had with the name and I'm not sure who the maker is. The scissors still have most of their gilding and are in great condition. The y have intact points and cut beautifully to the tips. They measure not quite 3 1/2" long and 1 1/4" across the bows. Silscis1 Antique Sterling Silver Embroidery Scissors in Sheath English* Circa 1850 These pretty sterling silver handled scissors have lacy filigree designs on the shanks and sheath. This is sometimes called the snowflake pattern and was very popular in England c. 1850-60. All the silver tests sterling but it was made before English silversmiths were required by law to hallmark small items(and pay duty on them) The steel blades are tight with intact points and they cut beautifully to the tips. One shank has a small repair at the bottom. But it's well done and sturdy. The silver on both scissors and sheath is in otherwise excellent condition and the scissors fit in snugly. The scissors measure 4" long out of the sheath and 4 1/8" with the sheath. Victorian Sterling Embroidery Scissors Circa 1801? & Sterling Victorian Awl
Although these two are from roughly the Victorian era. They obviously are not the same pattern. I collected antique sewing items and have a need to sell them. The scissors have a very gorgeous pattern that I have not been able to identify; however, the maker's mark is very clear and this is what makes them even more important. I googled the mark as 1094 W and 1094 WS and both referred to them as WS- 1094. The first was for Four Victorian Dessert Forks. Old English pattern initialled WS London1801-making these scissors much earlier than I ever thought them to be. This from another search. Then sterling 1094. That WS is adapted from a photograph of an early and rare mark in Penny Morrill's book. So I can only surmise they are not only rare but the 1094 automatically came up with the equally rare WS letters. On the scissors. The W is ... morefollowed by the S which is flanked by two decorative marks-one on either side of it. If any of you on EBAY are more versed in old English rare marks or have Penny Morrill's book and can look these up for me I would be very grateful. I cannot spend more money to make much needed money I need and I want to make sure my information is completely valid. The awl is of no importance other than the fact that it is a Victorian piece circa 1890. I just put it with the scissors as I do not need it without the scissors. The screw has never been tightened on the scissors as I did not want to stress them. Being a little loose, the scissors will not cut threads.
