I am not an expert in this type of grading so let the pictures speak for themselves. The scissors are actually quite sharp. Solinger is the German manufacturer.

Up for bid is a figural antique gilded steel owl scissors. Kullenberg Germany,Registered. This was originally gold plated, most of which has worn away. It measures approximately 7" long. The owl is 2 sided, the eyes that had gems in them on one side are missing. The points on the blades are intact and it cuts well. There is no rust, in useable condition.

These Lovely Antique Sewing Shears Are From Graef& Schmidt Circa 1890 They Were Were Made In Germany William Graef& Carl Schmidt were former salesman for the Peters Brothers Co. who opened up their own manufacturing and importing cutlery company in 1884 on# 29 Warren Street in NYC. At first they were cutlery importers. They and their heirs were the exclusive U.S. importers of J. A. Henckels Twin Works cutlery from 1884 to about 1948. Although no Henckels knives were imported to the USA between 1942 and 1950. According to the 1888 Illustrated New York- The Metropolis of Today. Graef and Schmidt were among the most active and enterprising manufacturers and importers of"high-class cutlery. They manufactured and imported"only the finest lines of pocket cutlery, butcher knifes, scissors, razors, etc. In addition to importing ... moreHenckels cutlery. When they first started they also imported their own"private brand" cutlery made for them with their name. This is one of those scissors. Later they purchased their own manufacturing plant in New Jersey where they made medical instruments and scissors. These scissors were not marked"Germany. The scissors shanks are modeled with birds and flowers and the bows are laurel wreaths. Flowers and foliage decorate the sheath. They were made in England in the early 19th century. Probably by Joseph Taylor of Birmingham. English silversmiths didn't mark small items(and have to pay duty on them) until required to by law in the early 1880s. They have tight blades and cut beautifully to the tips. The silver on the scissors is in excellent condition with no dents. Splits or repairs. The sheath is a nice snug fit on the scissors. One of England's premier cutlers in the 19th century. The card says they were the cutlers to Queen Victoria. This piece was in the collection of Diane Pelham Burn and this is the piece that was photographed in the lower plate on p. 40 of her book Sew Precious. The central circular pivot and the shaping of the blades is distinctive to French scissors of the late 1600s. The quality is superb. The steel has a little discoloration but is in overall amazing condition with no rust or damage. The blades are tight with sharp. Intact points and they still cut well. They measure a petite 3 3/8" long. A pair of very similar form from this era are shown on p. 42 of La Folie des Ciseaux by Frederique Crestin-Billet. They are in a silk and velvet lined leather case. PE Guerin Brass Antique Desk Scissors * German * Circa late 1800s
P.E. Guerin is the oldest decorative hardware firm in the United States. And the only metal foundry in New York City. The company was started in 1857 by French immigrant Pierre Emmanuel Guerin and has been at its current location on Jane Street in Greenwich Village since 1892. Pierre Emmanuel Guerin was one of the pioneers in artistic metalwork in New York City. And examples of his production can still be found in various public buildings, parks and important residences throughout the city and the country. The business was later passed on to Pierre's son, Emmanuel Pierre Guerin, followed by his son's wife Marguerita V. Guerin, and then his great nephew, Arthur C. Ward. Four generations later, the company remains a family business, now owned and directed by Pierre Emmanuel's great grandnephew, Andrew F. Ward.

The blades are tight with sharp points and they cut like new to the tips. It would be a great pair to actually use. Both the case and scissors date to the mid-late 18th century. Antique Palais Royal Mother of Pearl Scissors- French Circa 1810/20 These amazing mother of pearl scissors came from a fitted box of Palais Royal sewing tools. Both sides of the handles are hand carved with a wonderfull designs. They have gilded floral ferrules and steel blades. The condition is very good with no cracks or loss and the mother of pearl is very luminous. Only one blade tip is a little more worn and both blades would have to be cleaned. Are somewhat oxidized. Scissors8 Ornate Antique Steel Filigree Lace Scissors Italian* Circa 1890 These wonderfully ornate steel scissors have fancy pierced shanks with a design of scrolling flowers and foliage. They're completely hand made and filed and the handwork and engraving on both sides is beautifully done. They were used for Carrickmacross* lace and have one point with a rounded section. They're Italian from the famous steel making Campobasso region and date to c.1890-1900. The blades are partially stamped but I can't make out the mark. They have tight blades. Intact points and cut beautifully to the tips. The condition is excellent with no damage or rust and they measure almost 4 3/8" long. The steel still has almost all of the original polished surface. Carrickmacross lace was composed of a layer of fine cambric laid on net. When the ... morepattern was outlined with stitching. Much of the cambric had to be cut away close to the stitches leaving the design applique on the net. These scissors were used for this delicate operation, the lump of metal on the lower blade ensuring that the net background was not accidentally snipped. They are steel with traces of real gold hammered into the mat background. The blades are stamped"Sweden" on one side and have the maker's mark on the other. Silscis3 Ornate Antique Sheathed Sterling Silver Scissors English* Circa 1830 These exceptional sterling silver(tested) handled embroidery scissors and their sterling sheath are 180+ years old. Beautifully chased birds(doves) and flowers decorate the shanks and garlands of leaves form the bows. A scrolling floral design is on the sheath. They were made in England in the early 19th century. Probably by Joseph Taylor of Birmingham. English silversmiths didn't mark small items(and have to pay duty on them) until required to by law in the early 1880s. The blades are tight with sharp points and they cut very well. The silver on the scissors(and sheath) is in excellent condition with no dents. Repairs or other damage.
