Description Antique Victorian carved coquilla nut thimble holder. Which has been produced in the form of an acorn and unscrews to the middle to open, and would have stored a thimble at one time. AGE The holder dates to the middle of the 19th century. Circa 1870. SIZE The holder measure 4.8cm(2" high and 3.5cm(1½" in diameter. CONDITION The case is in good condition for considerable age. Although there is a chip to the rim of the base section, and also a tiny child to the inside screw rim. Please refer to the above photographs for details of condition. The holder measures 6.2cm(2½" long. 4cm(1½" wide and 3.7cm(1½" high. CONDITION The holder is in a very good condition. Scarce Antique Brass 1 3/4" Miniature Beer Stein Tape Measure W/ Thimble Holder
Description Offered at auction is a scarce antique figural beer stein tape measure/thimble holder which stands 1 3/4" tall and is just under 1" in diameter across the base. It is made from brass which has a pressed patten of cavaliers and peasants. There are four people-a woman with a basket. A man who is walking or leaping, a cavalier on a horse and a man with his foot on a stump. The tape draws out from the side and retracts by turning the base-it is not spring loaded. The lid of the stein opens to reveal a place for the thimble. The piece probably dates to the early 1900's may have been made in Germany for export, but it is not marked. It does have"Pat" for"patented" on the bottom. It is in very nice condition with no damage to the stein and the cloth tape which measures in inches. This is a souvenir from the Panama Pacific Exposition San Francisco 1915. Thimble holder in the form of a sail boat. The boat is a sea shell and the sails are made from mother-of-pearl. The base is metal the sail supports are metal and the ropes are twisted wire. The piece measures 51/2" tall appox 31/2" long and the bottom of the largest sail measures 21/2" across.The sails are hand painted with blue flowers. Early Victorian silk slipper that was designed to hold a thimble in the toe and a piece of flannel fitted along the length to hold needles. This was hand made. I am including the sterling silver thimble and antique Goldsmith Stern& Co. size 8 with a beaded rim. This slipper was loved and used as the silk on the top has started to fray away. Antique Thimble Holder Ship Boat Mother-of-Pearl Sail Owl Columbian Expo1893
What a cute little souvenir sewing thimble holder from the Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. This thimble holder is in the form of a sailing ship. The little sailing ship boat is a made of a Sea Shell with the mainmast being cut from a mother-of-pearl shell as well. The main sail is hand painted with blue flowers plus the words"Worlds Columbian Exposition Chicago 1893" The sail mast is metal with twisted wire for ropes to fasten the main sail with a burgee or pennant at the top. The figurehead on the bow is a metal owl and at the stern there is a metal anchor held with a chain. The anchor shows some bends as it is thin metal. Can be seen in photos. The base of the ship is metal. But does have 2 thin splits in the design which can be seen in the picture of the pieces bottom. They appear as thin white marks in the design, but ... moreyou are seeing the light through these splits, not sure but probably an original design flaw. Difficult to recognize until examining it closely. So use the magnifier feature to see it in the photos. The actual thimble holder seems to be wood or cork wrapped with unknown fabric. Leather or animal skin, as it appears to have a pattern. THERE IS NO THIMBLE INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION It measures approx 3 1/4" tall X approx 3 1/4" long X approx 1 1/4" wide. All and all it is in very good condition for it's age with no cracks or damage other that mentioned and could use a cleaning. It is being sold as found. I believe it to be carved from the Tagua or similar nut which was customary due to its extremely hard consistency- much like that of ivory. This piece was found in a tredle sewing machine drawer. The case has dings. Chips, cracks and character but remains very stable and screws together nicely. Few nicks as shown in pictures. Cracks due to very hard substance drying. Pieces are very stable. T he 2 parts screw together very nicely and it holds tightly. Thimble looks very nice- detailed and in excellent condition.

For sale: Antique vintage Vegetable Ivory Thimble. And Tape Measurer Pin Cushion Holder Box. Sold together because of wear and damage. The thimble holder has a small knit acorn inside with a tiny loop at the top. This holder- box has a crack and chip damage to the finials. The tall 4 inch piece. Has a pin cushion top and tape measures at the side. Tape is out and I cant get it back inside. There is damage to the trim, base and screw base rim. Also to side wear. The other pair of scissors are marked"Seneca C. Co. It is gray and white with a red collar leaning on a brown walnut chasing a mouse that is trying to get away. I bought this from the monthly antique market in Wisbaden. Germany with a thimble. It could just as well be used for any other purposes, maybe even holding a ring or earrings on the nightstand. We think this is cold painted lead. But it could also be cold painted pewter. It measures 1 1/2" tall. 2 1/4 wide and 2 1/2" deep. Good used condition. Please see photos.
