LARGE ANTIQUE TAILOR'S SCISSORS TEXTILE SHEARS VINTAGE FABRIC UNMARKED 14 1/4"
This pair of textile. Tailor's scissors measure 14 1/4" overall with 7" sharp blades. I believe that is what the incised 7 is there for. I do not know what the 4 and 8 mean that are incised under the pivot nuts. Otherwise than that. I find no markings at all. The tightening system looks the same to me as the Wiss brand that had pat. applied for and their name on the nuts. Maybe this is a Wiss that was a prototype. Or maybe just another brand that was unmarked. These are in wonderful shape, with 2/3 of the enamel paint still on the handles. They operate smoothly and the adjuster nut and screw work just as they should. They weigh 2 lbs. So you can see why they would have the table"travel foot" on the handle so as not to wear your hand and arm out when using them all day! Fine working order with 1/3 paint loss and light ... moreblade oxidation. Use the zoom feature confirm the fineness of this pair of scissors!

This is pair of R Heinisch Tailor Shears that are 13 1/2" in length. They are made of steel and held together with a brass button. The button is stamped R Heinisch inventor Newark NJ Latest Patent 1859. They are 14" in length from top of handle to cutting tip. The cutting edges are 6" These have some wear from usage but are still usable. I cut some paper and cardboard to be sure. Might need a bit of sharpening to cut fabric.

LARGE old antique scissors made by R. HEINISCH company in NEWARK. NJ, probably in the late 19c. These heavy shears are made for tailors, to cut through cloth or leather. They measure 14 inches long with 6-1/2 inch cut. They weigh about 3-1/2 lbs. There is no rust on these shears. But some pitting which does not interfere with cutting action. Rochus Heinisch and Jacob Weiss were contemporaries and Weiss worked for Heinisch at first. Then branched out on his own. There is a number 9 on the inside of the handle of the scissors. LARGE OLD tailor WISS Newark NJ scissors fabric shears compare Heinisch Compton
LARGE old antique scissors made by WISS company in NEWARK. NJ, probably in the first half of the 20th century. These heavy shears are made for tailors or upholsterers, to cut through cloth or leather. They measure 12-1/2" long with 6 inch cut. They weigh about 1 lb 12 ounces. But shipping weight will be between 2 and 3 lbs. There is a little rust on these shears and some pitting which does not interfere with cutting action. The edges look straight and probably will benefit from sharpening. Rochus Heinisch and Jacob Weiss were contemporaries and Weiss worked for Heinisch at first. Then branched out on his own. If I remember correctly, Heinisch, from Austria, invented the INLAID steel blades where steel that takes a fine edge but is brittle is welded to another steel that holds up for the shape of the shears. I think Wiss was from switzerland ... moreand they both worked in Newark NJ in the late 19c. There is a number 4 and a number 5 on the inside of the handle of the scissors. Black paint remains on the handle grips. It is called"japanned" in the advertisement I include(last photo above) from a 1915 WISS catalogue. The illustration is for TAILORS SHEARS. The top people in the"Rag Trade" would wear these beautiful tools on a lanyard from their necks as a proud symbol of their professional expertise. Owning these showed that you knew your business. I remember when my beloved mother got this pair. In 1954, from her podiatrist in Brooklyn, while she and her sister sat on the steps of his brownstone drinking a glass of tea and eating matzos and cream cheese. These Shears are 12 inches and have the original brass fittings. Made by R. Heinisch. Newark, NJ, USA, Numbered 3. They are a little loose and could use some tightening. Great sharp edges. Antique R. Heinisch 14.5" Heavy Duty Fabric Leather Canvas Scissors Shears Wowza
Here is a pair of 14.1/2" Tailor's Fabric or Leather Scissors for sale. Marked R. Heinisch Inventor Newark N.J. U.S.A. Right Handed Scissors. no way could a lefty use these because the finger holes are sculpted to fit a large right hand very comfortably. The blades are nice and sharp. And the scissors cut beautifully. These are most surely designed to use on leather or heavy fabrics, such as canvas, heavy wools, etc. The condition is excellent except for surface wear; there is paint and finish loss, tarnish, and spots of light rust here and there(i'm fairly certain that the rust would come off with a scouring pad if so desired) I'm not an expert on scissors, but it looks like these blades have never been sharpened, and they are extremely sharp as is… one of the photos has cut paper that I used the scissors on. The brass button ... moreis in great shape. Shipping for these scissors is $15.00… they're heavy!
