Here is a lovely German Shepherd Alsatian Dog measuring tape in celluloid ~~ ... moreYou won't find another like this! Having a very small spring mechanism. I don't recommend actually using the tape for measuring. As it is 100+/ years old, it probably wouldn't take a lot of pulling. Having said that. I did pull it out to 80" and then got some resistance and stopped ~~ it retracted as it should There is no maker's mark or stamp of origin. Many of these figural tape measures are from Germany. But I don't know about this one. German Shepherds/Alsatains were very popular in the US in the early 1900's, in great part due to the movie stars Strongheart and Rin-Tin-Tin. Have no idea what the hand-written numbers are on the underneath. I've had this handsome Shepherd for ten years and the marks were there when I got him. There is minor evidence of wear ~~ he has been gently used and well cared for Measurements: Base Diameter: 1-5/8" Width Tip of Nose to Tape Pull: 2" Height Tip of Ears to Base: 1-3/4" Handsome German Shepherd Dog. gorgeous ears. This is such a neat old piece! A half doll figural tape measure and pin cushion combination. She feels straw filled and the measuring tape pulls from the base. She measures 4.5 inches tall and 2.5 inches across the base. She has lost some of her hair and she has some uneven color/discoloration to her clothes but she is still wonderful. I haven't tried to clean or restore her in any way. She retains the original sticker on the bottom"Made in Japan" I just love her. A fun estate piece. Pictured is a cute antique Measuring Tape in the shape of a Pig. This measuring tape is made of bronze and the tail winds-up to bring the tape back into the pig's belly. Where it is stored. This pig is so cute I spent a lot of extra time taking photo's of it! It measures approximately 2" long x.75" wide and 1" tall. The only issue is that the tape starts out at 2" with a safety pin holding the tape from going back inside. This appears to be a common problem ... morewith all of these and it's hardly a big issue, but mentioned for accuracy. The tape measures to a full 40" As this was in my grandparents estate and I know it was brought to America when my great grandparents immigrated here in the 1870's. I'm dating this piece to around the 1860's, which should be a very close date. Overall a wonderful antique and highly collectable! Please understand I'm not an expert in anything and can only describe the items I see to the best of my ability. Which is exactly why I list so many really great photo's.
