My moth er is clearing out a few of her treasures that she has collected over the years. This is a set of 3 beauti ful bodkins that have a gorgeous floral p atter n. They are stam ped ster ling. The largest one measures approx. 2 3/4 inch l ong. And has a slit that is 3/4 inches wide. The medium one is approx. 2 5/8 inch long. And the slit is approx, 3/8 inch wide. The smallest is approx. 2 1/2 inches lon g. And the slit is approx. 3/1 6 inch wide. I do not know the age or history. And am only listing these as Victorian as that is what I am seeing other s that are similar in design listed as. There are some wear spots and discoloration. Can' t tell if they are coated w ith something. But they are just gorgeous! I am not an expert on old bodkins by any stre tch of the imagination. Gorgeous French Ivory Fitted Needlework Sewing Set Etui This beautiful hand crafted French sewing etui is believed to be from or around the Napoleon III era. The case is ivory and specially made for the different needlework tools that are found in the set. Each slot has been carved to fit each specific tool. It also appears that all of the tools match- the bodkin fits in the slot exactly. Which indicates it, too is probably original. It is not uncommon that a plain bodkin be found with a decorative set. Each tool is in excellent condition with little to no sign of wear. The guarantee mark appears to be that of two boar's heads; therefore. The set is marked for Paris. This guarantee mark was used from 1838-1962 and guarantees a minimum fineness or purity of.800 silver. That means it has the look of being 18k gold, with a“gold wash” finish, ... moreand the sturdiness and durability of silver, sometimes referred to as“continental. The pieces are all believed to be in vermeil, which means the silver has a thick layer of 18k gold. The actual makers mark is difficult to distinguish but the lozenge can be found on more than 1 of the tools nonetheless. Closure and hinges are in perfect working condition. The ivory is in superb condition with no chips or cracks. The outer case shows a beautiful blue ornate design that could perhaps be the initials of the original owner. Carved Bone Bodkin Set in All Original Presentation Case 5 Pieces Complete
Offering an antique faux ivory or bone bodkin set in its original presentation case. 5 pieces. The first carved bone piece on the bottom looks like a crochet hook with barbs at both ends, the next up is a piece with a faux ivory or bone handle with a needle like tip with a tiny barb- this one actually has a metal grommet at the end holding the bon on. Another single crochet hook type on one end, a bone handled piece with a metal barb and the last is another faux ivory piece with the metal barb. I thought all of these pieces were original to the case- although their materials& construction designs look different. Case measures approx. 5.25" long by 3" tall by 1" deep. Outside of box is in black grained faux leather paper. Overall good condition- interesting set. It dates from around 1770(before the French Revolution) during the decadent period of Marie-Antoinette, a period of extreme indulgence within the noble class. These beautiful pieces were the connection between many romantic interludes and dramas. If we could only hear the little box speak. Of all the clandestine rendezvous, the proposals, the words of unsurpassed affection. The beautifully handwritten note would have been carefully written, rolled up and sealed with wax. It would have then been placed in the billet doux, which was immediately and hastily carried by the courier to the recipient. The quality of this piece is extraordinary. ... moreThe box is made of a light wood. Sanded smooth to accept the paint. The execution of the very charming and romantic hand-painted scenes is remarkable. The colors remain rich and vibrant. The bodkin is in very good condition. There is the expected small infrequent chips to the paint(mostly to the top piece of the box. These areas have had restoration to match the colors making the chips hardly noticeable unless closely inspected) and a hair aged line matched and blended. The extremely high quality of the painting, is indicative of ownership by nobility. Such a piece would have been very expensive to create. This is a fine example from the period of Marie-Antoinette. It's rich history makes it a true treasure. Billet Doux dating before the French Revolution are of the utmost rarity. Vintage Sterling Bodkin Ribbon Threader Set CB& H Co. These vintage bodkins or ribbon threaders are marked Sterling CB&H on the back. The three bodkins are made in graduated sizes and have a monogram in script that appears to be TCCM on the front. The CB&H mark stands for Codding Bros. Heilbron in business until 1918 in Attleboro. MA. The bodkins have a very dark finish and have not been polished. The range in size from 3/4" x 2 3/4" 3/8" x 2 5/8" and 1/4" x 2 1/2" The original case is very fragile. It has a green and pink floral cover. The case is barely held together at the fold, and the ribbons are incomplete. The case is 3 1/2"x 2 7/8" 5142 I will combine mailing costs on multiple sales.

Sterling Silver Victorian Bodkin...Needful Things...Set with Case 4 Piece
This is a nice bodkin or ribbon puller set marked only.Sterling. The cloth case is faded and slightly stained.see pics.but is in excellent condition. The green silk ribbon is still tied. Case measures 3 1/2" by 2 1/2" and the sterling pieces measure max 2 3/4" There is a nice Victorian scrolled design.they are monogrammed with an old English"MKL" The smallest puller is slightly wavy.I could not photograph.very minor. There may have been a needle with the set.just don't know. But there is room in the case for one. Vintage Carved Bone Needle Case Box Container & Sewing Awl Bodkin Punch Lot Set
Sweet Little Bone Sewing Set The Awl tip isn't sharpened to a point and measures 2 5/8th inches long. The Needle Case is 3 inches long and has a removable circular knob that slides onto it. The knob has some chips along the edge and I really have no idea what it's called or how it's used. Please feel free to enlighten me. Check out my other Sewing Notion Auctions.
