Antique RARE Claus Sewing Scissors in the Shape of a Bird
Small Vintage Gold& Silver Toned Italian Stork Bird Sewing/ Embroidery Scissors. They measure 3.5" x 1.5" are marked CLAUS. They are still very sharp and cut very well. The head. Body, and feet are gold tone, while the beak and wings are silver tone. Why the stork. Since midwives were women who also did needlework in their spare time, they kept their medical tools handy-in their sewing basket. Maybe they even worked on their needlework while waiting for a baby to be born! The original stork scissors were not actually scissors, but clamps used by midwives in the 1800s to tie off the umbilical cord after a woman gave birth. The original beaks were offset, rather than straight, rounded instead of pointed, and the blades were dull, not for cutting fabric. Midwives often did needlework in their spare time and kept their medical tools ... morehandy in their sewing baskets. Many have found these odd looking storks mixed in the contents of antique sewing baskets. Over time, the storks morphed into the scissors we know and love today. Antique Solingen scissors that i picked up at a garage sale. It has two faces on both sides of the scissors which i believe to be of Kaiser Wilhelm and his wife in celebration their wedding. Which makes these scissors around 100 years old! Its a beautiful commemorative piece that is in great condition. It has had no repairs made and still cuts easily. These Scissors or Shears were made or imported sometime between 1824 and 1837 by C. Klauberg. C. Klauberg was an importer of Cutlery in New York City from the Early 1800's to Early 1900's. The address in the Makers Mark is 173 Williams St. New York. NY. He moved his business to in 1824 and in 1837 the business was renamed C.Klauberg& Bros. Placing this item sometime between those two dates. This Set of Scissors or Shears would be used for cutting multiple layers of material. However, I think its cutting days are behind it. The central circular pivot and the shaping of the blades is distinctive to French scissors of the late 1600s. The quality is superb. The steel has a little discoloration but is in overall amazing condition with no rust or damage. The blades are tight with sharp. Intact points and they still cut well. They measure a petite 3 3/8" long. A pair of very similar form from this era are shown on p. 42 of La Folie des Ciseaux by Frederique Crestin-Billet. They are in a silk and velvet lined leather case. On the other side it has what looks like fancy initials and I cannot make the end out. But what I can read is THE BH(M?and one more letter I cannot make out. Sciscase3 Antique Scissors in Shagreen& Silver Case English* Circa 1730-50 This rare shagreen leather case holds a nice old pair of cut steel scissors. Shagreen is usually from the skin of a shark or ray. This case is decorated all around with gilded studs. The interior mounting. Push button and ring on top are all solid sterling silver(tested) The scissors have nice details and are in excellent condition. The blades are tight with sharp points and they cut like new to the tips. It would be a great pair to actually use. Both the case and scissors date to the mid-late 18th century. The case measures 3 3/4" long x 1 5/8" wide at the top. The scissors are 3" long. The silver hinge is strong and original and the push button latch works well. Whimsical antique embroidery scissors with a decoration that looks like owl eyes. It appears that there may have been a gold wash on areas of the owl. This delightful treasure is 3 3/4" long. Marked on one side: Hibbard. Spencer and Bartlett Co. Germany; on the other side is the logo OVB with a rectangle over the letters. Inside the rectangle is OUR VERY BEST. You are bidding on a RARE pair of antique scissors. These scissors have such a unique shape and after much internet research I still have not been able to fins out what they were used for. A consultation with a fashion designer had suggested they may have been used for industrial trimming. Cutting or for a tailor. The handles are offset and the blade has a very pronounced curve. I took a photo of the scissors upside down to show the unique shape. They are 8 1/4 inches long. They have brown leather on the handles. The scissors are marked: LUZ R.W. Sheffield. Made in England. Absolutely stunning pair of Victorian figural scissors in the shape of a witch riding a broom. Two-toned silver and gold color. Measures 4" and is marked Salem 1692 Registered Germany with a mark in shape of a barrel with a cross and the number 48. The other side is marked only with the number 48. These scissors are in very good condition but not perfect. There is some wear to the metal in several areas on both the witch and on the handles. Most noticeably at the bottom of her skirt on one side, which I attempt to capture in the last photo. The blades are extremely sharp and move nicely on the screw, which is firm. There is some wear or light rust on one blade, which I show in the photo as well. rare antique buttonhole sewing scissors patented 1884 NR
Rare scissors made for cutting buttonholes. This pair has an ingenious adjustment feature to size buttonhole cuts and make matching cuts. Marked with a patent number and dated July 1, 1884 on one side, with an animal figure and name logo on the other. Makers mark is difficult to read, however, but is visible on the photo. The sizes of the cuts are numbered. It is 4 1/2" long. The scissors are in excellent working condition, and have the patina of old age. There is no damage to the metal.

Vintage SUPREMO sewing scissors shears leather working primitive tool rare craft
Rare industrial style vintage Supremo brand sewing or leather working scissors or shears. They are 10 inches long with 5 inch blades and are rather heavy in the hand about 1 pound. They were well used by their former owner. But will still cut thin fabric. The handle is flat black with rust colored metal showing threw where the hand has warren the paint away and the blades have a beautiful brown rust colored patina to them. These would make a marvelous addition to a sewing, leather work, Ferrier, or blacksmith collection and could be used for decor because of their primitive and rustic appearance.
