Great rare vintage figural sewing tape measure. This bird- Shaped holder looks like a kookaburra. It has a cloth tape measure with a round metal end that comes out from beneath the bird’s tail. Antique Figural Walnut Sewing Etui With Gilded tools Description: This little sewing etui has been created inside of a real walnut with gilded ormolu mounts. The top is lined with silk and a velvet covered*rack* sits in the middle. Pierced to hold the miniature tools. The tiny gilded metal tools include a thimble. Needle case, bodkin, scissors and stiletto. The petite steel scissors measure almost 1 1/4" 3.2 cm long and cut well. All of the tools are nice working condition. The thimble has a 13 mm diameter opening. The needle case is almost 1 1/8" 3 cm long and has some tiny needles. The stiletto has the original sharp point and is 1 1/16" 2.7 cm long and the bodkin is 1" 2,54 cm long. I can’t see any damage on the little tools. This is a figural walnut form etui. Containing a mirror, powder puff, spool holder, and pins. The interior is gilt while the exterior is"bronzed" to resemble the color of a walnut. It is approx. 2 inches long. I believe it is from the early 1900s as it were owned by a girl who died in 1915 and was kept. As I purchased this pig at an estate sale before 1996, I assume the date refers to 1896. It is an old tape measurer. The tail winds the tape. The tape is complete but has medical tape holding the metal pull as the tape is frayed at that end. The tape is fragile. Otherwise this item is in good working condition.

This is a figural tape measure in the form of an orange painted metal egg with a plastic fly. It has no markings on it. The metal case has some small chips in the paint which makes me think it was used as a darner. There are no dents. The tape pulls out fine but the cloth has fraying. Love love love this early sewing/knitting piece. This is made like a spool in the form of a lady. She measures 4 1/2 inches tall. WONDERFUL early paint. Whisical and sooo appealing. Her hat has 4 metal hoops which I think wound the wool for knitting. Some wear to the paint as is shown in the photos. But does not detract from the charm of a great piece. Rare Dagger Scissor Sheathe Don't see these too often. Yes, the larger chatelaine ones are around alot, but not these teeny tiny dainties. The sheathe measures 2 and 1/4 inches long and with 1/4 inch width at the top and 1/8 inch width at the bottom, it does not contain the scissors. From top to bottom, the entire piece measures 4 inches in length. It appears to be made of brass or plated. There are no markings.

Antique Figural Birds Dutch Silver Sewing Scissors * 1817 Hallmarks
Silscis4 Antique Figural Birds Silver Sewing Scissors Dutch* 1817 Hallmarks These wonderful antique silver scissors are Dutch and have solid silver handles. The shanks are in the form of two crowned doves sitting on flowering branches. The foliage continues around the bows creating loops at the top so they could be attached to a chatelaine. Kay Sullivan shows two similar pairs on pp. 110-111 of her book Needlework Tools& Accessories- A Dutch Tradition. These have the maker's mark for Jan Willem van Sull and the date letter( H) for 1817. He worked as a silversmith in Geertruidenberg from 1816-1840. It has dolphin marks that were stamped on old. Otherwise un-hallmarked silver from 1859-1893. It also has another punch mark that looks like a goat. They are in excellent, usable condition with tight blades and intact points. For sale is a fantastic antique celluloid figural elephant tape measure marked Germany on the tape. Unbelievable detail and great colors with the elephant in a dark ivory color with a deep red/ burgundy platform. I don't know how long the tape is because I was afraid of pulling it out and it not retracting. Measures 1 1/8" in height. 1 1/2" wide and 5/8" deep. Perfect condition! Vintage Germany Violin Bass Cello Figural Bakelite? Cloth Sewing Tape Measure
Here is an early 20th century figural sewing tape measure shaped like a violin. Possibly a cello or bass. Beautiful patina, tan/ camel color/ ivory color with a wonderful"grain" in the plastic. I believe it could be bakelite- certainly feels less brittle than celluloid. 3-1/2 inches tall. 2 inches at the widest point. The fabric measuring tape is in excellent condition and re-rolls with minimal effort. It extends to about 36-1/2 inches. A very rare vintage figural tape measure and a wonderful addition to any collection. The woman I purchased it from said that it has been in her family for a long time.
