The spine is stamped'LADY'S COMPANION' in gold letters and is enhanced with birds above and below the lettering. The top lifts off& fits nicely on the bottom hal f. Inside lid is lined in a pink paper with gold stamped stars design. The bottom section is a burgundy leather with fitted burgundy velvet lined compartments for the various tools. Description Stunning antique sewing stiletto. Which has been hand carved from a single wonderfully luminous section of mother of pearl with arrow shaped handle. The stiletto would date to the early part of the 19th century. Circa 1830. and would have originally been part of a completely fitted work/sewing box. The stiletto would have undoubtedly been part of a Palais Royal set, and the image of the leaves/flowers were a popular theme used. An example of this type of stiletto can be seen in Bridget McConnel's book The Story of Antique Needlework Tools. On page 100. AGE The stiletto would date from the early 19th century. Circa 1830.
