WELCOME! I am offering a F abulous Fr ench Lady's Sewing Companion This lovely case is in the shape of a book and is a d eep green leather. It has a gold stamped fountain motif on the front& back with birds drinking from it. It is embossed. Scrolled and gold-stamped on all sides and is hand painted red, green, blue and white. The spine is stamped'LADY'S COMPANION' in gold letters and is enhanced with birds above and below the lettering. The top lifts off& fits nicely on the bottom hal f. Inside lid is lined in a pink paper with gold stamped stars design. The bottom section is a burgundy leather with fitted burgundy velvet lined compartments for the various tools. There is a tiny pin cushion below the thimble. It measures approx. 4" x 3" x 2" The previous owner who lives in France. Found it at their local ... morebrocante market in Provence. This cased sewing kit includes many tools that would aid in different areas of needlework. This set includes a pair of reproduction gilded bird scissors, a tiny button hook, an ox bone handled stiletto, an ox bone handled button hook, an ox bone handled lace crochet hook, a gilded bodkin, 2 Redditich needle packets. This kit dates to around the early to mid 1800s. The kit consists of a needle case. A thimble, an awl, a hook, scissors, and a threader. All the pieces are fabulously hand engraved with leaf and vine designs. The box is carved from mellow oxbone, with beautiful natural graining and cross-hatching. The lid of the case is engraved with a monogram of MAM in Gothic script. The thimble is a replacement, and has a monogram of EWC. All of the gold pieces are hallmarked with the French small article mark of an eagle's head. For 18 karat gold purity. There is also a maker's mark we cannot identify. Antique Carved SEWING CASE ETUI Thimble Scissors TOOLS Box Kit
This auction is for an Antique Carved/Fitted sewing case or an ETUI. The piece is quite heavy for its size and weights a sturdy 94 grams with the tools inside. The piece measures approximately 3 1/8 inches in length and 1 7/8 inches in width. Allowing for the release catch. It is possible that the Thimble is original to this kit; however. The scissors definitely are not original(they don't fit properly. But they will be sent with the etui as they came with it) The hinges on the box have no makers marks that I can find but are in good working condition; however. There is a small chip to the button used for opening the etui- please see photos. The thimble(has no marks) has a bright cut floral edge and when held to the light does not appear to be pierced through; the scissors measure just over 2 1/2 inches in length I would guess are old ... moresteel and have pitting. There is a slight gap on the sides near the hinge(may be due to where the fabric was located? and a small amount of discoloration at the hinge. The walnut measures about 1 7/8" from top to bottom x 1 3/8" wide. There is a metal loop of sorts(moveable) on one side of the inside which probably held the fabric in place. For your consideration is this antique sewing set in a velvet covered box circa 1900. The case is covered in dark red velvet with a velvet and satin lined interior. This sewing kit includes a pair of scissors with beautiful handles. 2 packets of Kibbys needles, a bodkin, a mother of pearl handled stiletto, a pair of mother of pearl handle tweezers, a mother of pearl handled file, and 1 carved solid ox bone crochet hook. Condition: Very Fine! Case shows very minimal wear for its age. Interior fabric and tools are in very good condition. There is some rust on the scissors and the file. For your consideration is this English made antique sewing set. Circa 1900. The needlework tools are housed in a burgundy velvet covered and velvet lined wooden case with satin details. This sewing kit includes 4 knitting pins, 2 packets of H. Milward and Sons needles, a thimble, a stitch marker, 2 sizes of matching scissors, a bodkin, and a steel crochet hook. It also includes the following ox bone handles tools; a lace crochet hook, a knife, a pick with a bent tip, and a turned stiletto. Condition: Good. Velvet is in exceptionally good condition for its age. The tip of the bone handled pick is bent. There are a few small spots of rust on the scissors and thimble. The knitting pins are vintage. But not original to the set. Please examine photos. Measurements: 7.75 inches by 7 inches and 1.5 inch tall.
