They are the smallest I've ever seen(1/2" long) They open and close and I bet they would cut. They are wrapped up under cellophane with an embossed card from Joseph Rodgers& Sons. One of England's premier cutlers in the 19th century. The card says they were the cutlers to Queen Victoria. This piece was in the collection of Diane Pelham Burn and this is the piece that was photographed in the lower plate on p. 40 of her book Sew Precious. Vintage Miniature Ladies Legs Folding Scissors with Chatelaine/Fob Latch
This vintage pair of miniature folding scissors dates from the late 1800’s. The ladies legs handles are faux mother of pearl(celluloid) on metal mounts and open to reveal scissors. There is flaw in the celluloid portion of one of the legs(Photo#7& 8) It looks like a cracked area. But is completely solid. The defect goes through one of the rivet areas and may have occurred during manufacturing. The scissors have“PATENT” imprinted on one side and are functional. There is a slightly bent tip on one of the blades. But the pair cuts paper perfectly. The latch does work and is structured to allow attachment of a chain or cord as was common during the Victorian period. Age and use have resulted in some pitting and scratches of the metal. For your bid consideration I have a Vintage Miniature Stork Scissors(1/12" length. Unopened) Single Blade Folding Pocket Knife(1" length, unopened) The tassel is a pale pink color and measures approx. 2 1/2" length. Both the scissors and the pocket knife/thread cutter are tarnished/rusted as you can hopefully see from the photos. They open and close perfectly. The pouch cover/lid is very worn, fragile. Offered for auction is a precious antique miniature sewing table. The drawer of the table is loaded with miniature sewing items. There is a French sterling silver thimble which stands only 3/8 inches high. The brass scissors are 3/4 inches long. There is a winder. Bobbin, thread, yarn, buttons, and darner. The drawer is 2 1/4 inches wide and 1 5/8 inches long. The table stands 2 5/8 inches high, 3 1/4 inches wide and 2 1/8 inches deep. The table is in good condition with no apparent damage. The blades are tight and the points intact. They open and close and were probably made for a doll's chatelaine or sewing basket. They are in the original leather case that closes with a snap. They measure almost 1 5/8" long and are in excellent condition with no damage. They were most likely made in Germany.
