A very old and neat little orange jar. It is made of metal. And says HOPE Denture Powder on it. There is still something when I shake it. I am not sure of the age of this, but it was in with a bunch of stuff in the grandparents basement that is from 1900-1930. It measures about 2 1/4 inches tall, and when you open the cap, it looks like a salt or pepper shaker with holes punched through the metal. It housed bi-carbonate of soda. Or better known as baking soda from J.D. Aug. Hartz. 137 Thirteenth Street, College Point, N.Y. Commonly used for sour stomach, dyspepsia, and heartburn, my grandfather would take a glass of water and add baking soda and drink it for his heartburn. Not sure if it worked, but that was a common practice even in the late 1900's. This piece is in wonderful condition with no chips. Cracks or breaks, the rubber ring inside the lid is falling apart but the stoneware is in great condition with minor wear to the rim that commensurates with the age and use of this item! It measures approx. 17" tall by 9" in diameter. There is a nice patina to the metal lid, such a great complete piece! We find very few stoneware jars with their original labels and this one has just that plus it's original lid. Nothing is missing here except for a full jar of baking soda and a bad case of heartburn! The bottle has surface scratches and someone scratched ID at the top of the bottle and 4 at the bottom onto it. It also needs to be cleaned. There is no other damage to the bottle that I can see.
