Has some use scratches, imperfections from the blowing process and I believe etching mistakes. There are a couple etchings that may be scratches but are the same depth as etching it looks like mistakes. There is a pontil that was sanded. It is still shiney when washed and the etchings clear. it measure 5" tall and 2 2/8" at mouth. The etchings show 1 ounce 2 ounce. The eqivalent 1 ounce equals 8 drachms. Two ounces equals 16 drachms. It shows the pontil mark on the base indicating that it was handmade. The bottle measures about 17 ½” 445 mm) tall. It is about 7 ½ in diameter. It has some waviness form the blowing and turning during it making. The shoulders are nice and round and the neck transforms into a nice 3” diameter opening. It is relatively lightweight for its size attesting to the skill of the glass blower who made it. There is virtually no wear and the bottle is in excellent chip and crack free condition. There are some minor defect at the rim of the opening; but nothing that detracts from its beauty and form. See photos. As far as pharmacy-medicines collectibles go, cetacian labelled bottles are about as rare as they come. The whale oil once contained in this bottle undoubtedly came from the era when such amazing animals were harpooned, and as such, the bottle is an interesting part of history. Up for auction is a set of three deep. Heavy cobalt blue apothecary bottles of different make and era. They are all in mint condition with no cracks, chips or scratches. The two without labels are hand blown and at least a century old, the tallest is an English salt mouth jar with remnant, faded, hand-painted gold-gilt label, which sparkles in the light. LARGE ANTIQUE HAND BLOWN DECORATIVE APOTHECARY JAR
This very large antique hand blown and hand etched apothecary jar is fresh from a Newport. Rhode Island estate! This significant apothecary jar stands 33 inches tall and is made up of three pieces. The base(the main body of the jar) stands 22 inches tall and measures approx. 10 inches in diameter. The secondary piece which is a smaller jar stands about 7 1/2 inches tall and the finial stands 3 1/2 inches tall. This lovely decorative piece is hand engraved with a grape and leaf design. Both the large base jar and the smaller jar have an applied ring around the neck, the ring on the smaller jar has been decoratively cut. The jar is completely hand blown and the base has a polished pontil. The underside of the foot has the significant wear that you would expect to see on an antique piece of glass. This is without a doubt one of the largest apothecary ... morejars I have ever seen! The large base does have one large bubble on the inside and part of the bubble has turned a frosty color this bubble is on the inside and does not effect the integrity of the glass(see last picture) There is also a grey swirl in the glass on top pf the lip on the large base. The stopper appears to be pressed glass and ground. No damage to the stopper or bottle, but the bottle does show very light surface wear. Looks great for its age.

Featuring a straight sided jar with wide. Flat foot, and applied glass decorative bands, removable lid seats down into the jar- neither piece is ground around the collar- tiered finial is blown as well. Condition is very nice with two small chips on the inner rim of the jar and extremely fine roughness on the inside of the lid rim- chips are difficult to see when lid is in place. Jar is full of wavy lines with some cased bubbles- due to the hand made nature of the glass, jar or applied bands may be slightly irregular- base has a very large, rough pontil. RARE Antique Hand Blown 5 Chamber Girdled Apothecary Lab Bottle Ground Pontil
Very unique blown(lead? glass 5 chamber. Girdled, hour glass apothecary/laboratory bottle. Measures 9+1/2" tall x 4" diagonal at base. Each outer chamber has a drilled hole at its lower leg end. 2 of the holes have lengthwise cracks emanating from them, but these are internal and do not leak out. All 5 routes enter the main base bottle chamber. The bottle is blown and hand formed with a ground pontil. No stopper, though clearly one originally existed. Some internal oxidation, but no material residue. Other than issues mentioned, nice condition with no additional cracks, no chips and no repairs. No maker's mark. No label. Please be patient there are 21 more photos to be loaded in this auction. In this auction. ... moreWe have a pair of late 1800's to early 1900's antique hand blown, flint glass apothecary show globes. This fine pair is encircled by a brass/bronze hardware to accented with figural ostrich sculptures to hang the glasses by chain. The large glasses are both hand-blown wavy glass with several bubbles in each. We verified that both pieces are made of flint glass as each fluoresces a light green glow under black light. The show globes are not perfectly identical in shape and design, a mark of hand made craftsmanship. Each antique glass piece measures at approx. 11 1/4" tall x 9" wide in diameter and weighs a total of 5 pounds for both! Very impressive. There is scratches and firing specks on the glass. The opening rim show signs of wear from rubbing and slight chipped edges. There is oxidation and wear on the hardware. And the ostrich ornaments are a bit loose on one piece, but can easily be fixed by tightening the screw. Still, this is a great decorative piece, sure to add sophistication to your home! Huge Antique Apothecary Hand-Blown Amethyst Purple Druggist Jar
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Up for auction is a truly stunning. And highly collectible, rough-pontiled, bright amethyst apothecary jar. This piece has been in my personal collection for over 10 years and is one of my favorites. It is a heavy 3.8 lbs. of beautifully-colored purple glass with a fine hand-painted gilt label that reads, Pulv: Zingiber” i.e. pulverized ginger, a powerful medicinal that’s been popular since ancient times– a really cool label, right of Uncle Frankenstein’s laboratory. Also note the incredible etched numeric measurement table on the back, with numbers in a very interesting font no longer in use– all done by hand! I believe the jar if from the early 19th Century and was made in England. The jar is a full, 1 foot tall! It is nearly 6.5 inches in diameter at base, and mouth ... moreis 2.5 inches in diameter. Condition: Very Good- minus a few superficial scratches, some very minor label wear, which looks great and is in especially good condition for age. There are a few 4-5 very small fleabites, but most are smooth, almost polished, and are likely irregularities and small burst bubbles associated with its manufacture– nothing that detracts visually, and only noticeable upon close inspection. Half of these little rough spots are located along the outer edge of the lip on front of the jar. The only scratch that stands out, if you can call it that is one, is about an inch left of the#7 on the back. The photo shows something near#9, but that’s just lighting, nothing more.
