Vintage Whitall Tatum Glass Apothecary Specimen Jar 12.75" Clamp Sealer Pat 1895
From a local estate. Here is a grand old apothecary specimen jar with glass lid and clamp seal. The jar stands an impressive 12.75" tall with lid, about 14.25" tall with the clamp installed. The jar is hand-blown with pontil mark on the bottom, the lid is marked"Whitall, Tatum& Co. Philadelphia New York, with a patent date of June 11, 1895. Jar and lid show some age. And there are the remains of an old rubber seal ring around the rim. The jar has a little roughness around the inner rim, and there are flaws and straw marks inside the glass, one looks like a crack and one looks like a ding, neither of the flaws can be felt from either side of the glass. Other than that, just normal bubbles, straw marks, and some grime from decades of storage. Just a grand old jar, I didn't try to clean it, looks awesome and definitely ... moreold. Available for sale are a lot of two(2) very large apothecary pharmacy bottles. Both of these bottles are from the Whitall Tatum& Co and each have a beautiful gold embossed labels under the glass. Bottle#1: Label reads: MIST.GLYC.CO. Overall height of bottle with stopper is 12 1/2" tall and 4 1/2" in diameter Bottom of bottle is marked with raised letters and reads: W.T. Co. B U.S.A. There is a crack in the glass atop the label. This does not do through to the inside of the bottle itself. Just on the label. It appears that at someone tried to repair it with some type of glue.See photo#4& 5) Some imperfections and roughness along outer edges of label Beautiful embossed gold scroll design No chips on the ground stopper. Antique Early 1900s Apothecary Glass Salt Mouth Bottle The type of mouth this bottle has classifies this as a salt mouth bottle WT CO B on the bottom. It looks as if there was some sort of error stamping the bottom. The W is doubled and there appears to be an 8 in addition to the B. a few little nicks on the lip of the stopper but otherwise no chips or cracks. Phila, N.Y. with number 5 in center of mark, lid has no markings and is a little different in color of milk glass SO WE ARE NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE ORIGINAL LID, exact age unknown, seam on each side of jar that goes up to inner rim, Jar is appx 6 3/8" tall including lid and 3 15/16" in diam at bottom of jar. Pictured here is an antique apothecary medicine bottle from the 1870's. This bottle is in excellent condition with the original stopper. It is marked on the bottom in embossed letters WT& CO(A) I have dated this bottle to 1878. This once held Guaiacol Carbonate. Which was used medicinally as an expectorant, antiseptic and local anesthetic. This bottle measures 5.5" tall. The label is hand painted under glass in black lettering with a gold and red border. Hand blown clear glass laboratory battery jar W T & Co. Whitall Tatum
This clear glass laboratory or battery jar has a very wide mouth and a pour spout. It is 6- 1/8" tall and 4- 3/8" across the base and 3- 3/4" across the mouth(not including the spout) The base is faintly embossed"W T& Co. USA" Whitall Tatum) but it is difficult to read. There are no other markings. On the side. There is a slight round depression for a label. The top of the jar was snapped and ground, so the rim is chippy, and there are a couple of larger chips, the largest is about 3/8" wide and 1/4" long. You can see these in the 2nd& 3rd photos. Most likely they occurred when the jar was made, although there is no way to really tell. There are no cracks. Stunning old Whitall Tatum Apothecary jar great amber color I am not an expert but it looks like a two part molded top and bottom measures 3 3/4 in. inside diameter 4 7/16 across the bottom outside. Has a molded ridge top and bottom, the jar itself is 6 in. tall and stands 8 1/2 in. tall with the top on, Plenty of wrinkles and air bubbles in the glass adding to its unique character. Has a nice little acorn type top on the lid. Very good condition no damage to the bottom, has 2 or 3 extra small chips on the bottom of the top and inside lip of the top, about the size of this letter( i) hardly noticeable unless you feel for them and they do not distract from the attractiveness of this bottle. Wonderful old Whitall Tatum apothecary tin with great primitive appeal. Circa turn of the century. Dark hunter green with gold lines and a warm patina. The texture has crackled and crazed over the years. Brass label plate with original screws. The jar would have contained pulverized Folliae Mentha Piperita. Or pulverized peppermint leaves. The bottom glass is not even(bottle must have laid on its side) and glass has moved to one side of the bottle. amazing condition. Clear glass with old glass imperfections and bubbles. No cracks. Whitall Tatum specimen jar with iron wheel closure pontil
Offered for auction is a Whitall Tatum specimen jar with original glass lid and huge iron wheel clamp closure. The closure is very thick and strong. And functions smoothly. It even retains some of its original black paint. The jar is tall. Almost 8 inches without the lid and 9.5 inches to the top of the closure. The volume is roughly a pint. The glass insert has two fins on the bottom with holes to hang a specimen in suspension for display. The bottom of the jar has a pontil scar and the top has a ground lip in good condition. There is some interior haze on the glass. Please see my other auctions for other collectible jars. I will combine shipping on multiple purchases. With Ground Glass Stopper Embossed on bottom: PAT. APR 2. 1889" W.T.CO" For Whitall Tatum Company) This Apothecary Bottle was rescued from the basement of a family-owned Brooklyn pharmacy established in 1875. It measures 10" high to the top of stopper and 3 1/2" across the base. The powder jar. Was blown in a mold(BIM) with an applied neck and ground glass stopper, It also has a recess in the glass for a label and a paper Merck& Co. Label. It held one pound of"LITHIUM BENZOATE MERCK" powder. See photo below) I will also include one original printed envelope(see below) Showing the location and establishment date 1875. Of the pharmacy where this bottle was used. A photo of the store that was taken in the 1920s is at the bottom of this page. The bottle is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Offered for auction is a Whitall Tatum Specimen Jar. The jar measures 7" tall to the top of the lid. The bottom diameter is 6" and the top diameter for the opening is 5 1/2" The jar has a pontil mark on the bottom which would indicate it was hand blown. The lid has some small chips around the rim. Rare 1890's Whitall Tatum & Co. Hand Blown Glass Specimen Jar Vintage Apothecary
This listing is for a rare Whitall Tatum and Co. hand-blown glass specimen jar. This item is sold AS IS. The jar dates from between 1898 and 1901 and is hand-blown soda lime glass. The glass has natural imperfections including a few small bubbles and slight waviness in the sides of the glass due to natural thickness variation. The bottom of the jar has a slight mark where the punty was attached during the jar's fabrication. The top flange also has a slight fold where it was attached to the jar body. The inner lip of the flange is ground glass. As seen in the pictures. The lid of the jar reads WHITALL.TATUM& Co PHILADELPHIA NEW YORK. The lid also has two small hand-blown hooks from which specimens can be suspended. Both the jar and lid have no chips. Cracks, clouding or damage. This jar does not include the metal screw clamp.
