One of two similar jars out of the same South Hampton New York estate This jar measures 11 inches and is 12 inches in diameter(28 by 30.5 cm) The glaze is multi-colored in the deep rich colors typical of Italian majolica from this era. The front of the jar is decorated with a portrait of a gentleman. Complete with high collar. Around the man and covering the rest of the jar is a decorated an elaborate and finely painted flower and vine motif. This pair of late 19century American Hand-painted pharmacy apothecary jars with lids were purchased by my pharmacist/herbalist Grandfather and used in his Drug Store in San Antonio. Texas until his death. They are in excellent condition. They measure 11 inches high by 6 inches wide, white porcelain painted in blue with gold trim. The Gossypii Cortex is Cotton Root Bark, the Limonis Cortex is Lemon Peel.
