Up for bid is an Antique Cobalt Blue Ribbed Poison/Apothecary bottle. This bottle is in excellent shape and is a great cobalt blue color. It stands 10 ½ inches high and 3 ¾ inches wide. Bottle has no cracks or chips with the exception of the side of the pontil scar area where there is one thin chip on bottom o n one side o f the bottle pontil scar area that was most likely achieved while pontil rod was attached to bottle(see pics) The base center underneath has a pontil scar and a black iron rod sediment spot where the iron pontil-rod held the bottle when making(see pics included) bottle has no cracks. Has original stopper which is undamaged with no c hips or cracks-stopper neck has uneven bottom at bott om of neck which is probably its natural form(see pics) Which measures approx. 2.225" tall x 1.25" wide. The bottle measures itself approx. 8.75" tall x 3.5" wide. Bottle ... morewith stopper measures approx. 10" high. Bottle has swirls in glass which run around bottle horizontally. Very Large Antique Apothecary / Chemist Jar 10 1/4" x 5 1/2" RARE 2 1/2 Liter
I have not seen another one of these advertised. It is a larger bottle fat and wide which would make a good ship in the bottle piece. The bottom has a high kicked up imprinted 2 1/2 and I think it is a 2 1/2 liter. The top has crude glass and there are stretched glass lines in the neck. It has some scratching and although I tried to clean it. I was not very successful. Additional photos are always available upon request. Any imperfections which are obvious to me are commented on. However what is important to you may be something I could overlook. These items are well photographed so take a look and ask questions if you have them. This great little Jar is an under-the-glaze. Blue print ointment pot which was commonly used in the Victorian period as a cure-all for common external wounds. Rashes and scratches. It became extremely popular worldwide, and the good doctor whose name is associated with it, made his town, Bridport in England. Famous. The"Poor Man's Friend" was exported all over the world. Including the United States during the mid to late 1800's and early 1900's. Of course, in those days they had little quality control of their products, so this one shows the"homespuness" of the piece.all crooked and off-canter. which adds to the character of the piece. It measures about 2" in diameter and stands about 1 1/2" tall. There are are no cracks or repairs to the item.just age-related wear. Absolutely delightful little antique. Ceramic, under-glaze printed Chemist's/apothecary's ointment pot which originally contained a"cure-all" quack remedy. Exaggerated claims made for the"cure" of"all pulmonary complaints. Soreness of the chest& lungs, sore throat, rheumatism, croup in children, spinal diseases, epilepsy or fits etc" This particular product was originally marketed in about 5 different container sizes. This particular size was the very smallest of the range. This is NOT a replica. it is guaranteed an original. Dating to around 1900. The ointment pot measures about 1 1/4" in diameter and stands only 1 5/8" tall. Too cute for words! The pot has the customary glaze crazing consistent with the age of the item, and is in amazing condition! On offer is this crudely manufactured and printed. Antique ceramic"Holloway's" quack. Medical/pharmacy ointment pot/jar. The jar's original contents were used as an external kind of"cure-all" as detailed by the numerous exaggerated claims on the wall of the pot(see pics 3& 4) Thomas Holloway became a very rich man through the world-wide sales of his numerous"medicinal" cures and ointments starting in the mid 1800's and continuing through to the early 20 th century. Antique Apothecary Chemist Schleicher Schull Salesman Sample Filter Paper Mailer
This is an early 1900's Filter paper Sample mailer from Carl Schleicher& Schull out of Prussia. Sole Agents for Eimer& Amend out of New York. This mailer still has the original samples inside and includes an advertising brochure of their filter paper in different shapes and sizes with prices. The mailer is in nice shape for its age, just some light stains on cover and a crease on the fold in flap. The brochure inside is nice with no loose pages, there is some rusting on the staples. According to the label all 4 square sample sheets are still present, and all the circle samples are also present. I believe the 9/10 is a date code for 1910. They measure approx 1 7/8" long, the stems vary between 3/4 and 7/8" I've never described anything like this before, so hang in there.the base on 2 has lost all but a trace of the original cork, the third has a small amount remaining. The middle one has a partial printed label that reads"MOLYBDE. it is torn off after the"E" and in ink on the glass just above the label is written"MOLY" There is a very small amount of grey crystals in the jar. Three great looking Apothecary/Medicine/Chemist Bottles. One Cobalt Blue measures 7.5 inches tall and has an M molded on the Bottom. The Smaller Cobalt Bottle measures 6 inches and has the number 4 on the bottom and the brown bottle measures 6.5 inches tall and has the number 25 on the bottom. All three are side mold bottles and date between 1910 and 1930. All three are in great condition with no chips or cracks!

Antique, Pottery Jug apothecary/chemist's pharmacy quack cure-all jar pot Osaka
From a bit of research this product was produced in the late 1800's as a cure all. It's a very large jug that measures 14 inches tall and 7 inches wide. I took some close ups of the crazing and some cracks that probably occurred when the pottery jug was fired. I see no chips or major cracks it's a very well made piece. Antique apothecary or chemist reagent bottle with ground glass stopper
This reagent bottle bears the label"Gum Traganc" an abbreviation for the ingredient gum tragacanth. Gum tragacanth was a commonly used pharmaceutical and chemical product which is still used today. It is even used in some foods. This bottle came from a pharmacy where compounding ingredients using this item was common. Ground glass stoppers were used in the best vintage bottles as they were the best insurance against contaminants entering the container. This bottle is in perfect condition. There are no cracks or chips in either the bottle or the ground glass stopper.

This is an English pharmacy stock jar used to store ½ grain Morphine suppositories. Grain was a unit in the old British Imperial system of weights equivalent to 64 milligrams of the metric system. Green ribbed glass bottles and jars were used to store"poisons" in dispensaries(term poison was applied to all potent medicinal substances which. When taken in large enough quantity, could result in severe poisoning or death) The use of glass bottles in pharmacies dates from 1600s but they became popular in mid to late 1700s. Early poison bottles were blue. The color green became widely adopted in mid 1800s. The jar is marked on the bottom with the letter"W" surrounded by an octagon rim. This is a mark of Woods Brothers Glass Co. Ltd who operated from Borough Flint Glass Works in Barnsley. The factory was closed down in 1955. This jar comes from the pharmacy at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. That hospital was started in 1851 by William Marsden. Originally as a dispensary of medicines for cancer patients, but in 1862 it was moved to its current location in Fulham Road London and started functioning as a cancer hospital. It was much later, in 1954, when it was named the Royal Marsden Hospital. The change in regulations in 1970's made the use of the pharmacy stock bottles redundant. The new legislation required that the medicines should not be transferred from the original manufacturer's container until they are dispensed to the patient. That opened a flood of such stock glass bottles on the market. I know that the jar for sale comes from that hospital but I do not know when it was acquired by its dispensary. This is a large Victorian English pharmacy stock bottle used to store Colored Tincture of Iodine. Green ribbed glass bottles were used to store"poisons" in dispensaries(term poison was applied to all potent medicinal substances which. When taken in large enough quantity, could result in severe poisoning or death and to medicines intended for external use only- not to be taken by mouth) The use of glass bottles in pharmacies dates from 1600s but they became popular in mid to late 1700s. Early poison bottles were blue. The color green became widely adopted in mid 1800s. The earliest labels were usually engraved or painted on the bottles. In England, by the end of 1800, the bottles were moulded with recessed panels and curved rectangular glass labels with mitered corners were cemented into the recess. The label area on this bottle ... moreis not recessed and it looks(particularly the undamaged left edge) that the label was painted onto the bottle. The label is rectangular with mitered corners painted in gold leaf with red rim and black lettering"TINCT IODINE Tr" I think that the bottle most likely predates 1880's but is later then 1860. The bottle is unmarked on the bottom. The bottom is slightly convex, there are three seams visible on the smooth shoulders of the bottle. The stopper is ground on the sides and bottom and fits the opening of the bottle very well providing a good seal and is easy to remove and reinsert. The sides of the bottle are ribbed all around, except for the label area which is smooth and protrudes above the grooves but is almost even with the ridges. Antique apothecary. Chemist, doctor set. The outer box is stamped on the bottom but I cannot read it. London. This box is brittle and torn. Poor condition. Contains 3 large glass bottles. 2 small glass bottles and a tin of Thies Salve. The salve tin will not open. It has black residue on the back side. See the pictures for details. The bottles all have glass stoppers. The stoppers in the two short bottles are stuck. I could not get them open. I did not try too hard because I did not want to mess up the paper labels. ANTIQUE CHEMIST LABORATORY BEAKER APOTHECARY ONION BOTTLE OPEN PONTIL GLASS
I believe the unusual shape of this clear glass beaker/bottle was created to control the pouring of liquid for an apothecary. The middle of the neck seems to be crimped to allow the even flow of air and liquid and the top of the neck widens a bit below the spout to slow down and control the pouring. From what I understand the open rough pontil mark on the bottom would date this bottle to about the 1850s. The information I am giving I have come across online and was very limited. Since I am not an expert please research and judge for yourself. A lthough the bottle has some exterior scratches. Residue on the bottom inside and a very small flea bite sized I chip on the top rim, it still displays very well. the bottle measures 7 1/2 inches tall by 4 inches wide.
