This Winthrop slant top ball and claw secretary desk dates from the 1940s. It has all the original brass Chippendale hardware on the front. As you open up the breadboard writing surface. Automatic extensions come out to support the writing lid and it also exposes a wonderful multi-cubby hole section with 3 deep drawers. This interior has a carved door storage area and two cleverly designed units behind multi turn spindle posts. Antique 1900-1950 Slant Drop Front Oak Secretary Desk - Lionhead
I am not an expert but an antique furniture appraiser looked at this piece recently and stated this is a unique desk that he's never seen one quite like it. It was likely made in the early 1900's. Made of oak. And has a spooncarved front. There are no identifying markings. It is in excellent shape and it has the original finish. Brass fittings show a bit of tarnish but should clean up easily with a little TLC. Three of the posts on the brass rail at the top are loose but can be easily secured with a little bit of attention. One of the rail ends is stripped so that will need to be secured as well. Otherwise this piece is ready for your home. I would be happy to provide more detailed photos if requested. I hate to part with such a beautiful and unique item but we no longer have the room and it just doesn't fit our decor. This is a beautiful antique drop front desk. It is made in the Larkin style. I have not seen any marks that indicate a maker. The piece is dark wood and may be either mahogany or cherry. I am not a wood expert. There is a mirror and two candle holder/sconce shelves for detail, there are also shelves for books. The piece has some wear and tear on the wood, see pics, but nothing huge. It needs a good cleaning! There is no lock detail on the front and no locking mechanism. The last picture shows a brass detail piece that can be added if you like. It will be included with the item. The dimensions are 43" high x 34" wide x 17" deep. With the drop-down open, it is 29" deep. It has a 2-1/2" x 3" section of the lower left front corner where a piece of the veneer is missing. It has some age and wear scratches, and one of the brass drawer pulls is broken, but I have the piece that broke off. These flaws can be seen in the photos. Therefore, this is an as is sale.

Antique Drop Front Desk Telephone Table/Secretary Writing Desk
Here's a quaint reminder of the days before there were no cell phones. Only land lines. This is an antique fall front or drop front desk, and it's rare to see one this small. It was made by the Imperial Furniture Company in Grand Rapids, MI, probably in the 1920s- 1930s. The front pulls down to serve as a writing area. With a pen holder mounted inside. It has a removable back so you could put a land line phone in it and the cord would not get in your way, with space for a telephone book and a pad of paper. It looks like it originally had two dividers inside as well as a drawer underneath, but the drawer and one of the dividers is missing. There are a couple of scratches and scuffs here and there, but is otherwise in very good condition. Measures 48" tall x 20" wide x 13 1/2" deep.
