In 1972 I had it refurbished and used it for the next 40 years at home. The desk is 50" wide and 48" high. It has deep drawers. A working lock and a secret door on the lower right side. The roll up sticks a bit on the way up, but otherwise operates smoothly. The desk surface is a bit rough and there are definite but minor signs of age. this is a nice cute old set. it is a childs size roll top desk with the original matching chair. it is hard to have them both together in one place. the desk is stamped on the back paris mfg co no. 641 south paris. The canvas backing for the roll top is marked as follows: PIEDMONT MANF. CO. DRILLS. Piedmont Manufacturing Company was a South Carolina textile manufacturer that was in operation from about 1873 to about 1977. Please see the pictures. The desk is predominantly made of oak. The drawer backs and other structural parts are made of softer wood. There is a column of 4 drawers on the right with a wooden locking mechanism in back. The desk top with lifting panel that exposes a spring-loaded swing-up typewriter platform. And pigeon holes with 5 drawers(one labeled Coal Orders) In one drawer is a fragment of paper with 1920s dates. I don't know if that is original to the desk or not. The slightly serpintine roll top has the original working lock and the original key(a cool one- see pictures) The lifting panel lock and the drawer lock is lacking the key. The roll has a oval marquetry inlay of flaming torch and arrows with florals. The petite bookcase has brass grill doors. The cubbyhole has two plain drawers, and a leather framed pull forward writing surface. At top is a pierced brass gallery framing a French polished buff marble slab. The tapered square legs have brass booties. The desk measures 3'10" 46" tall by 2'5-1/2" 29-1/2" wide by 15-1/2" deep. The distance from long drawer to floor is 23" tall. I have an early 1900's Roll Top Desk that has the type writers tray on the left(perfect for putting a modern printer) and a pull out tray on the right hand side. Center drawer closes and locks the right hand side drawers when pushed in further than completely closed(very nice feature) Roll top is in excellent shape and has a secretary's organizer with pull out trays and compartments.

It is in decent shape but needs some repair. The interior filling is completely intact, including the little stamp drawer at the top. There is a sectioned drawer at the base with a locking mechanism that would secure the roll-top as well(sorry, no key) The tambour goes up and down, but wants to go off the tracks while doing so. The 2 sides of the base are missing the brass trim, with some damage to the wood on one side, and the brass trim above the tambour has come loose and needs to be re-secured. There are some rub marks in the tambour, but all of the slats are secure. The base is stamped J.M. Paillard Paris, recessed into the wood. Antique Quarter Sawn. Raised Panel, Tiger Oak. Roll Top Desk I think this desk was manufactured in the early 1900’s. But I haven’t found any identifying marks. The wood grain is beautiful. The desk top is 54” x 32 ½” and the overall height is 53” The height of the desk top is about 32" There are four drawers on each side. All of the drawers are very deep and slide smoothly. The roll top moves up and down with a little effort. It takes two hands to open and close it. The caster wheels(not original) can be removed easily. Photo#4 shows the two slide-out writing panels. In photo#5 a red arrow points to a horizontal board that is not original. In photo#6 a red arrow points to a chipped board. Photo#7 includes a close-up of the lock. A drawer, and the underside of the desk top. Photo#8 shows the roll top section with all four drawers ... moreopened slightly(2 rectangular drawers and 2 small triangular pencil drawers) In photo#9 two cigarette burns are circled in red. Photo#10 shows a drawer with dividers, the underside of the slide-out panels, the underside of the roll top(laying on the floor) and the underside of one of the two small drawers from the roll top section. Photo#11 shows several holes that are near the corner of one of the pedestals. Apparently something was attached to the desk at one time. A lamp, perhaps. There are five holes along the front right edge and 10 holes on the right side, near the front edge. In photo#12 two chipped spots are circled in red. This desk has age appropriate signs of wear. Including chips and light scratches. I don’t have a key for the the lock. The front of one of the small pencil drawers has warped, and one of the guide rails for that drawer is loose. The panels on the back of the roll top section have warped, but they are intact. I know that I’ve listed a lot of condition issues. But none of them jump out at you when you first see the desk. Antique Roll Top Desk. Circa 1920. Condition is excellent. It has a few areas that need some attention. We would use furniture polish but it probably needs a proper cleaning to wake up the wood. There are a few specks of paint on the right side. Again with a proper cleaning this can address this. The Only major defect is small burn mark on desk portion. I took many photos so what you see it what the desk has. There are 2 drawers on the shelf that were added and not part of the desk. That is why they don't match. It has been displayed in each of our homes for over 50 years. It was always stored on the main floor. Never in the basement or garage. It was cleaned and polished on a fairly regular basis. It has not dried out. We have been using it over the last few years as a computer desk. The second photo was taken by me of is of the original ... moreowner in 1959. Large roll top desk in good condition. Turn of the Century age. 48.5"tall and 47"wide. Top comes off for easy moving. Needs some work and refinishing if desired. 1920 Antique Vintage Child Student Roll Top Desk Cork Screw Chair 1920's NICE

Up for Auction we have an Antique Vintage 1920s Childs or Students Roll Top Desk with matching Cork Screw Chair. Now I am not a circa aficionado. So I can only go by what I was told, but back when I bought it, the dealer informed me that the desk AND chair are a MATCHED PAIR that are from the 1920's. He said the brass hardware on the drawers are consistent with that period, but is not certain if they are the actual ... moreoriginal handles that were on it the day it was first sold. Unfortunately, I can't remember the manufacturers name, but you might be able to tell by looking at the pictures. I looked it over and couldn't find any labels or markings. I love the little chair. The fully functional brass hardware and triple banister post back. Coupled with the corkscrew design for raising and lowering the chair height is such a clever and inventive design. It is also very strong and sturdy! They just don't make chairs this durable any more! You can truly feel the history when you see this set. It is a great little set. The desks roll top is fully functional and there are little cubby cubicles inside for storage. There are 2 smoothly sliding drawers with a skeleton key type lock. No key though. The desk and chair both have the appropriate normal wear and tear marks from the last almost 100 years. But they both are in pretty good shape considering they was used by children. You can see minor maintenance repairs here and there, but nothing major that I can see. Just stuff like a couple new screws here and there. Child's Roll Top Desk Paris Mfg. Co. No. 428 It's an antique child's size roll top desk(mine when I was a kid. Actually) with two pull out drawers and chair. Hallmark: The chair is stamped on the bottom"Paris Mfg Co. No. 428 South Paris, ME, U.S.A. I would imagine the same stamp is on the back of the desk. But as you can see in the pics, the desk and chair have been painted. I thought about stripping the paint and refinishing. But that bit of fun should belong to the new owner. Desk Dimensions: 34 in. tall and 24 in. wide and 15 1/2 in. deep. The(2) drawers are 6 in. wide and 5 1/4 in. tall and 12 3/8 in. deep. Chair: 29 in. tall and 10.5 in. wide and 11 in. deep. Desk– a vintage hand-crafted double-pedestal walnut desk and chair(not depicted) Manufactured by the Los Angeles Desk Company(Los Angeles, CA) circa first quarter 20 th Century. With tambour roll-top concealing cubbyholes. This originally a school teachers rolltop desk was eventually usedby my grandparents Long Beach autobody shop used as an office desk during the 60s 70's and 80's. It has since been at my mothers home. I am reluctiant to sell it but have no room for it in my current home in Long Beach. Come check it out or make a bid. Antique Chid's Roll Top Desk and Drafting Swivel Adjustible Chair Wood & Steel
You are bidding on an antique child' roll top desk and chair. The desk measures 24" W x 33" H x 15" deep. It has a drawer and a shelf under the roll top with 3 pigeon holes. The chair is 27 1/2" H x 14"W at the seat. It is adjustable in height with about 7" of travel. The desk weighs 26 1/2 lbs. and the chair about 7 1/2 lbs. I don't know the exact age of the chair. It was acquired from an elderly lady who claims it was her father's when he was a child. Smith Premier Antique Quarter Sawn S Roll Top Desk with Keyboard Rest
For Sale is this extraordinary Smith Premier Quarter Sawn S Roll top desk with a hidden typewriter or Keyboard rest underneath. This is a beautiful desk and has features that other roll top desks do not have. The desk has many neat little cubby holes for invoices and other uses. It is unique in that it has a hidden compartment for a type-writer or a key boar underneath the desk top that slides under to reveal the keyboard rest. You can conceal the typewriter when you are not using it by pulling down the desk top. It has the original paten number engraved on it and has seven storage drawers including a large file drawer. It comes with the original key but it does not appear to work. But if this is an important factor, you can get it fix. It also has an original file with the name of the Manufacturing Company. The desk was made somewhere around ... morethe 1890-1920s. It is in very good condition and has no major damage except the expected minor wear and nicks. Antique Roll Top Desk 1900-1950 Dark Wood Tone
This desk was found in a courthouse basement in Arkansas back in the early seventies when my father was county Judge. Have tried to locate any information on it but not very successful. Locks on it were made by Eagle lock Co. which went out of business in the early fifties. I've seen refurbished desks of this style listed for 1500.00. There are a few loose and missing pieces from drawers that can easily be replaced. Cable is detached from right side of roll cover. Has been used in a home for 40 years and not stored. Chair is included. Please ask any questions you may have and I'll be happy to provide you with the best answer I can. This desk is sold as is and to my knowledge there are no other flaws that I need to list. I try to be as accurate as possible but am not an expert on this type of item. Thank you for looking.
