This graceful. Pedestal desk is in good condition for its age. It was refinished many years ago after it was found abandoned in a Chicago area alley and has belonged to my husband for over 40 years. There are no manufacturer marks on it. It has one locking drawer with hand-made key. Drawer knobs are wood, but are probably not original to the piece. Drawer is 23 ¼” wide x 19 ¼” deep. India ink stains in the drawer give an indication of its age. Drawers have dove-tail construction and are solid wood. The top writing surface is in good condition, but there are some gouges and dents that give it‘character’ The pedestal is 31 ½” wide and is 19 ½” in depth. There is some veneer chipped off of one of the pedestal ends and some surface scratches on the base of the legs as shown in the pictures. Many coats of hand rubbed oil varnish, the finish brings out the rich depths and textures of the wood, including some beauty marks in the grain(knots, dings, nail holes I filled and some chips in the wood panels on the lower edges of the kneehole area) When you rub your hands over the wood. It feels fantastic.I did restore some pieces(some trim at the bottom of the pedestals)This desk has beauty marks& imperfections. The top has some age related shrinkage gaps/cracks This desk is restored on all sides and can"float" in any room. It looks superb from any angle Not perfect. It is a true partners desk with drawers and a cabinet on each side. It can function perfectly for two people although it is also popular to day for a single user to use it and have the additional storage on the opposite side. The unique brass corners and inset brass handles are what give this desk its campaign appearance. ... moreCampaign furniture was originally used by officers in the military and was fashioned to be broken down and moved easily from base camp to base camp as the officer progressed. The style has become more popular as time has gone by. While having been made around 1940. This partners desk was probably not used by the military, but was made in that style. Both sides are identical and consist of a large cabinet in the left pedestal and a bank of regular drawers in the right. The middle drawers have locks but no key remains. The top is a lovely black leather that appears new. This leather has a lovely gold tooling around the outside. Leather makes a fabulous writing and work surface and has an incredibly handsome look. Mahogany is the wood used to construct the desk and it has a lovely grain and color. This antique campaign desk does separate into the top and two pedestals for easier moving. Knee-hole measurements are 33″ wide x 24″ tall. Overall the condition of the desk is very good. It has some cosmetic dings and chips through out. Antique Roll Top Pedestal Desk, Quarter Sawn, Tiger Oak, Raised Panel
Antique Quarter Sawn. Raised Panel, Tiger Oak. Roll Top Desk I think this desk was manufactured in the early 1900’s. But I haven’t found any identifying marks. The wood grain is beautiful. The desk top is 54” x 32 ½” and the overall height is 53” The height of the desk top is about 32" There are four drawers on each side. All of the drawers are very deep and slide smoothly. The roll top moves up and down with a little effort. It takes two hands to open and close it. The caster wheels(not original) can be removed easily. Photo#4 shows the two slide-out writing panels. In photo#5 a red arrow points to a horizontal board that is not original. In photo#6 a red arrow points to a chipped board. Photo#7 includes a close-up of the lock. A drawer, and the underside of the desk top. Photo#8 shows the roll top section with all four drawers ... moreopened slightly(2 rectangular drawers and 2 small triangular pencil drawers) In photo#9 two cigarette burns are circled in red. Photo#10 shows a drawer with dividers, the underside of the slide-out panels, the underside of the roll top(laying on the floor) and the underside of one of the two small drawers from the roll top section. Photo#11 shows several holes that are near the corner of one of the pedestals. Apparently something was attached to the desk at one time. A lamp, perhaps. There are five holes along the front right edge and 10 holes on the right side, near the front edge. In photo#12 two chipped spots are circled in red. This desk has age appropriate signs of wear. Including chips and light scratches. I don’t have a key for the the lock. The front of one of the small pencil drawers has warped, and one of the guide rails for that drawer is loose. The panels on the back of the roll top section have warped, but they are intact. I know that I’ve listed a lot of condition issues. But none of them jump out at you when you first see the desk. Tel: 01432 357753 Description: This is a very nice quality mid to late 20th Century mahogany large twin pedestal office/ writing table/ desk with antiqued gilded tooled red leather skivers/ inlays. The desk stands on a blind plinth with rounded corners. Rising over which are two banks of four drawers, each having solid mahogany fronts with solid brass dropper handles of Rococo design with pierced oval back-plates, the drawers having mahogany linings and dovetail joints. To the kneehole is a single frieze drawer and over each bank there is a pull-out brushing slide. The desk is surmounted by a rounded corner moulded top with an ogee edge cross-banded in mahogany and inset with the antiqued red leather skivers with ... moregold tooling. To the reverse side of the desk there is a panelled back with a modesty panel to the centre. The desk is a free standing piece of furniture to enable it to stand in the centre of a room, and of good size. Date: The desk dates circa 1950- 1980. Condition: The desk is in good original condition for its age. Having one small shrinkage shake in one of the uprights on the rear side of the desk. All of the drawers and slides run well.
