But it will really always be"Grandpa's writing desk" Unfortunately my seller is downsizing their home and grandpa's desk needs to find a new place to go. It is a lovely little piece measuring 39" tall. 27" across and 15" deep. It is in nice condition given it's age, but it does have a small chip out of the front right corner post. You can see it in the photos. The interior is plain with no shelves, drawers or cubbies. The information that I received from the appraisal company is as follows: The drop front oak(not quarter-sawn oak) writing desk is a Mission style Arts and Crafts desk; there is a keyhole in the top of the fall front and a small gallery or backplate on the top back of the desk. There is an"H" stretcher in the middle bottom of the desk and a vertical"X" stretcher on each bottom side of the desk; the legs are quadrant legs; there is one drawer with round brass pulls beneath the fall front. I would date the desk C. 1900-1915; the value would be between $625.00 and $700.00 in today's retail market. Due to the size of this item it will not be available for shipping. Beautiful Recently Refinished Arts& Crafts Style Kneehole 8 Drawer Desk. There are 4 drawers on the left side. Each with a bronze colored metal pull, 1 drawer in the center with 2 pulls, and 3 drawers on the right side. The drawers are all in good working condition(pull in and out correctly) There is some wear to the interior of the drawers due to use(stains, etc. The front of the desk has some carved patterns near the base and the kneehole parts. There is also dowel rod detailing that runs vertically beside the drawers fronts. The oak desk top has been refinished in a light mahogany stain. HE FELT THERE WAS MORE OF AN AFFLUENT MARKET OF BUYERS THERE FOR FINE PIECES AND HIGHER END SALES. THIS DESK PROBABLY SOLD IN N.Y.AND WAS DELIVERED TO N.J. AS IT HAS BEEN IN NJ FOR MANY YEARS BEING PASSED DOWN WITHIN ONE FAMILY AND TO ME.MANY OF THESE PIECES WERE NOT MARKED. ALL OF MY INFO WAS RETRIEVED FROM THE INTERNET WEB SITES AND ORIGINAL OWNERS.
