Some wood missing off back and one of the Velvet lined covers has come detached from metal bracket. Couple of pieces of Mother of pearl inlay is missing but could be replaced. It does have key and does lock. Also the ink jar, wax sticks and instrument to hold them Also one piece of vintage paper seal. There are three Wood pieces. One to cover compartment and one longer piece that slides into an compartment. I do not know what the longer piece is used for but obviously it belongs with it. HELLO! I've been told several a couple of different things about what this piece might be. So I'll just let you know what I know. It's wood. It's put together with nails only(no glue, screws.etc. It's about 7 inches tall and 10 inches across. One antiquer I spoke with told me it was what they called a"secretary" box. Caddy] It was probably kept under store counters with ink well containers. Envelopes/ post cards, stamps to cancel the mail as it was received and mailed out. Pens and etc. The handles made it convenient to move from under the counter to the top of the counter. The bottom slot was reserved for bookkeeping ledger. They were also found in telegraph offices. I've had people speculate about it being an ancient tansu. Apothecary cabinet, sewing caddy, knitting caddy and tea caddy.all antique. Art Noveau Secretary with side cabinet and bowed glass
I listed this as walnut but am not sure. I found this in an antigue store in Chicago area years ago and brought it to San Diego. What makes this so unique is the bowed glass has survived and many of them had flat glass. There is a dark mark like a ring on the one shelf which I tried to show in the pictures. Welcome This is an antique mahogany secretary desk. It is dark wood and it has 4 drawers and it has the original drawer pulls and drawers open and close good. The secretary has the drop down front which makes it a desk and the glass is not broken anywhere and the wood is in good condition for the age of the secretary. There are minor scratches and nicks from use but this is in good condition. The lock and the key in included here as shown in photo. This is a beautiful antique drop front desk. It is made in the Larkin style. I have not seen any marks that indicate a maker. The piece is dark wood and may be either mahogany or cherry. I am not a wood expert. There is a mirror and two candle holder/sconce shelves for detail, there are also shelves for books. The piece has some wear and tear on the wood, see pics, but nothing huge. It needs a good cleaning! There is no lock detail on the front and no locking mechanism. The last picture shows a brass detail piece that can be added if you like. It will be included with the item. Offered for your consideration is a nice vintage secretary cabinet/dresser. The top 2 faux drawers pull down to reveal a nice storage area and writing surface. CONDITION: Good vintage condition with normal wear due to age and use. The drawers are a bit tight. There is some veneer loss on the left side bottom and a few nicks in the veneer on the right side bottom edge. The top could be refinished. A antique mahogany finish that blends well with most decors. Front panel opens for a sturdy desk panel, and compartments for storage. A real find, exact age unknown but I believe it to be sometime between 1930 and 1950.
