Antique Oak Chautaugua Industrial Art Desk with Matching Bench School Learning
Antique oak Lewis and Myers school desk/learning center. Dated 1923 and manufactured in Valparaiso. Indiana. I also have the accompanying seat that completes this set. The top of the desk features an American Resources Map with area, population, mining, and manufacturing. From what I can tell the paper is cloth, somewhat distressed with a few minor stains. Top measures 21 1/2"X 17 1/4" Unopened height is 26 1/2" tall and stands on 2 adjustable legs that are adjusted by thumb screws. The desk also features a slide out drawer, desk top also slides rear-ward to reveal yet another desk top. The first top with map and sliding top is removable or locked in place with a sliding pin to lock in place. The Oak bench measures 15 1/4" in length by 7 1/2" in width, and is also adjustable in height styled exactly like the desk ... morewith thumb screw type adjustment. In the full up position it measures 14" full down position is approx. 10" in height. When the top is opened it reveals operating instructions for each child, shelf type compartments on both sides and a compartment in the center for writing materials I would guess. This very old foot stool is very sturdy and beautiful but has been repaired. One of the wooden handles had been broken off and was glued back together by someone. Also the woven fabric trim needs to be replaced(see photo 8) And it leaks sawdust. This feels like it was stuffed with sawdust or excelsior. There are small dents and dings in the wood as you would expect from a piece as old as this. The low loop hooked rug is in great condition with very little fading or wear, and has a lot of detail in the flowers and leaves. The background is red and black, making it look burgundy or maroon. This is a early velvet type of cloth foot stool with 4 horned feet. It measures approximately 13" by 13" I am selling as is so please see the pictures. The cloth is faded and shows wear with several tears shown in picture#4. This amazing little metamorphic footstool/shoe shine stand is all original with bronze patinated iron griffin feet and a top that folds over on itself to be either a footstool or shoe shine stand. The top conceals a cabinet to keep polishes/brushes. Etc. stored. When in the shoe shine mode, the top surface has a cast iron bracket for the placement of the shoe to be shined. All the surfaces have their original patinas and the box is currently upholstered in beautiful olive colored velvet(with bottoned footrest pad) and trimmed in a muted gold gimp. The box is made primarily of ash with an alder or poplar interior. It was beautifully crafted in America, c. 1905. Vintage Luggage Stand Just in time for those spring and summer houseguests. I have available two vintage wooden Luggage Stands(other stand is listed in a separate listing- check it out- I am always happy to combine items for shipping cost savings) This one has a light brown finish- the wood is possibly maple or pine. The three sturdy straps are made from a heavy canvas. When extended, the stand measures 20 inches tall and the top measures 16 x 20 inches. It folds up for handy storage when not in use. A few nicks to the wood from use and dust from storage, but overall this stand is in very good shape. This is one of the older stands I have seen of this style. This fabulous piece was part of the original furnishings of the patio Del Moro Courtyard Apartments in West Hollywood. Built in 1925 by famed architects Arthur and Nina Zwebell. The Patio del Moro is a paragon of Spanish revival architecture in Los Angeles. The Zwebell's worked together as a team with Arthur designing the buildings and Nina designing the interiors and furnishings. The Patio del Moro is featured in many publications on 1920s Spanish architecture in Los Angeles. Many Hollywood luminaries have lived there over the years. This antique Industrial/Steampunk stool is in EX. condition for it's age. The bent wood legs are in EX. condition with just a couple of very tight age cracks& 1 of the legs is a little chippy on on the bottom. This is a very solid stool weighing 17 lbs. Adjustable from 32" to 37" T he seat has been replaced& is 1 5/8" solid wood. I don't see any mfg. name on it. The cast iron parts appear to have been repainted the wood may have been refinished. There are square nails holding the cross pieces to the legs as shown in pic#8. The guy I got this from told me that this stool belonged to his Grandfather. Who was a plumber by trade. Vintage Cast Iron & Carpet Stool Footstool Buggy? Railroad?
This is a neat old footstool I ran accross. I would assume that it would be for travel in a buggy or possibly a train. It measures approx 9" tall. 10" accross and 8 1/2" front to back and is in used condition. The legs appear to be tublar- maybe cast iron, the fabric is a very worn piece of carpet.
