This exquisite Toledo Art Steel stool came to us with the seat upholstered in shag carpet. Our competent staff removed the shag carpet. Sanded, stained, and refinished the seat to restore the authentic beauty of the seat. A small area on the edge of the stool seat was damaged by the staples. The damage was sanded smooth and adds a little character to the finished piece- see picture. The base of the stool was very much intact, aside from paint wear, and we have left it original. An exceptionally fine example of UHL Steel Company's Toledo line, its all steel base is still rock solid and the wood seat is in outstanding condition. The original Toledo tag is gone, but its unmistakenly made by Toledo. No one else had the art deco base and signature ratchet height adjustment. Has a pierced seat that is fastened tightly to the reinforced bent steel legs with riveted joint cross bracing. Some vintage wear to the metal. Here is an industrial stool/ chair. For your home, art studio, or work shop. Its got the great look of the 1920s-1950s industrial era. Material is steel and birch plywood. The makers tags are missing. Its a Toledo probably. Its in as found condition. And can be used as is. I did some light cleaning to it. And ran the seat adjuster up and down. The chair adjusts in height 5 inches. With a seat height of 16 to 21 inches. Heavy duty factory type item. After doing some looking to ID this item. I have found all the design features used by the Toledo Uhl Art Steel company. Further reading shows the plywood versions to be older than the plastic ones. About the Toledo Uhl company The Toledo Metal Furniture Company was started as Uhl's Cycle Emporium at 1021-23 Monroe Street in Toledo. Ohio in 1898. Philip and Clement Uhl were the original founders, ... moreand brought in their brothers Joseph Otto, Charles, Henry and Robert Uhl. Later the Uhls shifted their focus to manufacturing ice cream parlor furniture. Renaming the company Uhl Art Steel, and in 1904 incorporating as the Toledo Metal Furniture company. By 1920, there were over 150 employees and the product mix had been expanded to include office and classroom furniture. According to a 1914 Journal of the National Association of Retail Druggists. VINTAGE INDUSTRIAL TOLEDO UHL ART STEEL MILITARY DRAFTING STOOL SEAT
WELCOME TO MY LISTING! THIS listing is for a heavy duty vintage industrial drafting stool. It is adjustable with heights ranging from 29" high to 34" high. The seat measures approximately 15" in diameter. It is very sturdy weighing approximately 19 lbs. The original sticker has worn off but there are still remnants as shown in photo#11. Much of the original military green paint remains. There is some surface rust but the stool is structurally sound. Previous owner added a type of padding with a fabric cover.no rips or tears or stains. The height adjustment lever works as it should. Hello and thanks for looking. Up for sale is a vintage Uhl drafting stool made by the Toledo Metal Furniture Company of Ohio. Has a wood top and is adjustable. Wood is separating. Finish is rusty in spots, feet are damaged as shown. Unsure if complete. Unsure if mechanism is working or not. No international sales, no international shipping. Needs cleaning or restoration. Antique Clement Uhl designed art steel"Perfection" Ice Cream Parlor and/or office chair#151 made by the Toledo Metal Furniture Company in Toledo Ohio in the very early 1900's. This chair's curved silhouette has timeless industrial appeal and it has the novel Uhl patented truss-locking design which was a marvel of simplicity and strength. One of these is on display in the Brooklyn Museum in New York. It is all original and in very good vintage condition consistent with its age. The wood seat is secure and stable with its original paint. It is remarkably intact and the hardware on the chair does not look to have ever been adjusted or removed. It does have light surface rust. UHL Toledo Art Steel Industrial Drafting Chair with Very Rare Details
This chair is different than any UHL chair I've seen before in that the footrest is attached to the legs by a small bracket. Something they must have done for just a year or so. Others have"Clunky" brackets holding the footrest that take away from the amazing and timeless form of this antique chair. Also unique is the brass nametag on the back of the backrest instead of the sticker below the seat. This makes me think that this chair is older than most. It is in good condition, does not wobble(meaning brackets are sound) Spring in seat adjustment still works, as well. Note: I installed the backrest bracket backwards. It is much neater looking when installed properly. Will correct and upload photo soon. The seat is not original, so I covered it to make it more comfortable. It is very comfortable and the first office chair produced ... morewith ergonomics in mind, with adjustable seat and backrest heights(note the brass tag has"approved by The American Posture League" I have many other fabric choices, for example: blue, cream, tan, grey, rust, or orange linen fabrics. I will send images to the buyer of all choices and will recover in selected fabric for no additional cost with brass colored or silver furniture nails(you have the option of letting these show around edges) Also, the feet are missing. I would think they are easy to find but the rolled steel legs will fit casters, which would be a cool addition. I brushed the legs, leaving a rich patina. Was considering a Japonica finish, but will let the buyer decide how they would like to finish to fit their decor. This is a great piece of American craftsmanship! Probably 100 years old and The Cherry Wood Live Edge small desk or bookshelf in photos can be purchased on Ebay now as well. It is a good size for a studio. Loft, dorm, or apt. It includes hinges that will allow you to fold up and carry to the beach or fold up onto wall. Which would make it a great Korean style dining table-just add pillows and Bulgogi!
